Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

You can use them for your regular clothes. As for the shirts, once you wash them a couple times, the colors will be set and you can wash them with similar colors. I use regular Tide detergent or Cheer. Works great. If you guys don't want to buy syntraphol, just use Tide, wash them twice with warm water (the first wash) and it would be fine.

Here are the current shirts.

Does anyone know if I can use both Jacquard and Dharma dye on one shirt? I have two of the Jacquard Tie Dye kits but would also like black for the Mickey heads. I thought about buying that individually from Dharma.

Also, has anyone tie dyed shirt with the multi color swirl and then the black tiger looking stripes? The directions I found online said to dye the back of teh shirt with the black, and the front in the normal fashion. I just can't help but think the back of the shirt would be really black.

Any advice? I would certainly appreciate it :flower3:

I did all yellow on the back of one shirt. It has been a while and I have not repeated this process. I believe the outcome was, the yellow filled in part of the swirl.

Hey Guys! I have followed this thread many years. I have done about 4 batches of shirts in the past 5 years.

This year I am making (with help) a happy for my daughter's cheer team that will be completing in WDW in Feb. for Nationals. I am making about 33 shirts. In the past, I have always used the tye dye paint from Michael's (not Tulip). Mostly because I am a last minute person & do not have the time to wait for dye to be shipped. Also, I know what I have used works & am a creature of habit.

I am hoping to get some expert opinions. Should I consider ordering the Dharma dyes? If so, how much should I order? Also, I would like primary colors, Red, Green, Yellow, Blue. Which colors would be good?

I have always used the Tulip dye. I am considering ordering from Dharma for my next project. The photos here look like the product offers better result. By better, I mean sharper.

Everyone on here is so AMAZING :thumbsup2

When I started this thread almost 6 years ago I thought it would be long dead by now.

I don't get on much but I like to lurk and see all the new and wonderful shirts and ideas. We always add bling to our Tie Dye's now thanks to one of the posters here.

Anyway, just checking in to get ideas for our new Tie Dye's for our first Disneyland adventure.

Happy dyeing everyone!!:cool1:

I just wanted to thank you for starting this thread. As someone that has used the information on this thread to make three batches of shirts, I have found the advice on this thread invaluable. I added my own tips based upon what I learned by doing. Because so many people have done this, I think that everyone has a great chance of success the first time out. I have made shirts for four families, including my own, and everyone has been thrilled with these shirts. It really is a boost to your ego when people stop you to ask where you bought them. An unintended benefit is that you can spot your family members at a distance as these shirts really stand out in a crowd. I too, keeping checking back in every once in a while as I think it is about time to do another batch of shirts. So thank you MNRMommy. You started something that has brought a lot of magic to a lot of trips!

Thank you to everyone on this thread. I just made my first tie dye shirts EVER! They turned out awesome! I absolutely LOVE them. I'm going to surprise my MIL the night before we leave with the shirts... we're going to wear them on our first day. Unlike the iron on shirts, I know I'll be wearing my tie dye shirt all summer long :)

I also cannot wait to make more! I made mine using a tie dye kit that MIL got me for Christmas... I'm not sure on the type of dye but I was really happy with the results. They look a little lighter in the photos but they really are nice, deep colors. Thanks!

They look great. The Mickey heads are very nicely defined! Hope you have a blast!

A couple of years ago we got creative with our shirts and branched out to dresses for DD and I:

Anybody here try other Disney icons for the tie dye shirts? My 4 yr old asked for Donald. She remembered when we wore our Mickey tie dyes to Chef Mickey's and Donald gave us a hard time about it! :lmao:

Hi,

I've bought Dylon machine dye by mistake and lost the receipt so unlikely they will exchange. Anyone know if you can use these somehow. Not sure how you would measure and mix out the dye???

So i've been a bought some hand dylon dye - (all i could get here in UK) But I'm confused how you mix it. do you add powder to bottle and then water? How much? instructions say weigh fabric then give no idea how you break it down, or do you make bucket load as per instructions on packet and then fill bottle. The intructions on packet only talk about dying single items not tie dye. I plan on doing 2 adult and 1 child shirt with 3 colours.

Thanks
