Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Here is DD's shirt for the Elf Run. I'm not fond of the colors. The green was a combination of blue and yellow. The red is not a true red. It is more of an orange red. I used Tulip dye, as I decided to do this spur of the moment. For my next big project, I plan to order Dharma dyes.

That is Awesome!!!! How do you get such good white around the mickey head? I just rinsed mine a few days ago, they turned out OK.. but not that nice!! You are soo good at this!!! I need more practice I think!! I will post my pictures after thanksgiving..

You can if you want to, it would stand out better since it has some yellow.

I did it on this sweatshirt that I made, since I had to use a lot of dye it went all the way up to my ears, even with the rubber bands.

Was in our local ACMoore getting a jacquard tie dye kit (60% off coupon ) and was checking out thier selection of black dyes and saw a spray paint to renew black faded fabric.
The last time I did shirts about 2 years ago, used tulip brand black for the mickey head and the black looks faded compared to rest of the shirt colors.

Has anyone ever used anything like this?

OK, so I have a question about altering a shirt that I want to tye dye a Mickey head on..

I bought those 100% cotton shirts for dying, but I cant stand a round collar neckline and feel I need to alter my shirt and give it a "v" neck....

If Im going to use that "no-sew iron-on make a hem material" to make my "v" neck, should I do that before or after I dye the shirt?

Or, I was thinking last night - what if I just found a men's "v" neck undershirt? I mean, is that bad? It will be completely covered in color...right??

I would look for a v-neck shirt. It just seems easier. If you do alter a shirt, I would do it before you dye. I however, have never used the hem material mentioned.

I have never used spray paint on fabric. I did paint on two of the shirts, I recently made using the tie dye liquid.

I would get a mens vneck shirt. No one will know it's a mans shirt...they are pretty unisex.

PixieDust (or anyone else who knows this answer)--When you are using the spiral design with only 2 colors, do you dye 1/2 the pie each color in a big block, or do you dye alternating pieces of the Pie shape?

I have been doing the bullseye design and I am tired of ruining shirts because the colors drip onto one another. I just did 6 shirts last night and I can tell through the plastic they aren't going to be good! I have big blobs of green on a few of my red circles where they bled down the fabric. Yikes. It's frustrating because I try to be so careful. Anyway, I am hoping that the spiral design will be a little more forgiving.

If you want the pattern like the shirts above, then you do alternate the colors. Color 1, color 2, color 1, color 2

Long Sleeve pattern. Same thing, just look for the cotton shirts, it is very warm at WDW but you never know, just an idea if ya want to try to make some long sleeves.
