Two and a half years I made some Mickey Tie Dyed shirts for our trip and they turned out great. Now we are going back and it's time to start my plans for making more. Love seeing all the great pics.

The first day we went to Disney infact we went to HS and right after entering with our matching tie dyed shirts we were swooped away for a magical private meet and greet and meet with several of the characters. It was awesome. Not sure if they singled us out because of the shirts or if it would've happend anyway.

Getting ready to place my dye question and keep second guessing myself...!
We are doing a mix of blues/greens.
So looking at Navy, Turquoise, Bright green and maybe one of the lighter blues. The warnings about the Turquoise being harder to rinse out has me a little concerned as well as worried about the navy (might go with Royal Blue which is pretty drak too) - do these colors run a lot? Any advice pixie or anyone else with experience on these colors?

I was going to skip the Synthrpal since cost is getting high with the dyes(or will that make it better with the dark colors?)- honestly except for my one daughter wearing it for play - these will not likely get wear after Disney.
TIA!!!
Michelle

You'll be fine with those colors, it just takes more to rinse but no problem. The detergent works great because it seals the loose particules of dye, but is up to you, you can use regular detergent too.

I'm getting ready to attempt to make Tye dye shirts. 2 questions. What happens if I use Mint flavored dental floss? I have no regular and I'm all set to get this done. Also what about non wax regular dental floss? Ok 3 questions. What is a basting stitch? Can I do it by hand? I'm not a crafty person so this is quite interesting:lmao:

I guess the flavor doesn't matter.

Basting is the stitch that you make and it is done by hand, - - - - - sorta like that.

And Pixie - thanks for patiently answering so many past questions for everyone- I swear I am almost ready to go... these might be my last 2 questions....

silk thread - does it just look like shiny thread but it says silk thread - I think I have some...stitch close together, right?

what kind of washable marker does everyone use - did I read right that people are using crayola washable markers (kids kinds)? should the color match your dye or be light color??? Or should it be those fabric markers that come off in wash?

TIA!
Michelle

The silk thread is very strong and shiny. Just check the labels at Walt mart or craft store. The pen is also in the fabric area where all the needles, pins, etc... I had never used crayon.

I have not perfected these shirts yet but I used pencil to outline Mickey and by putting my stitches on the line, the pencil disappeared.

Here are our shirts. The Mickey Heads glow in the dark. Thank you for posting the instructions and the tips!

Not sure why the last one is so huge. My photobucket account is wierd. I resized it but it's still big??

We made 5 of them last night and they turned out awesome...and we even let the kids do most of it!!! (8yr, 5yr, 5yr, 3yr, 2yr)!

I used the Dylon dyes (Green, Red & Pink for MVMCP) and the colors are really vibrant (hopefully that will hold after a washing). I did have 100% cotton shirts and did use the pre-treatment for about 30 min or so before.

I will post pics when I get a chance

And here they are...some turned out better than others, but since they each did their own (well, I helped the 2 & 3 yr olds!), I thought they are great!!!

Just had to share our 2nd attempt at shirts :) and say thanks again for this great thread! I got a little better this time, although I'm still having trouble getting my Mickey head to be as defined as I see others' - but it's still a lot of fun to keep trying!

I've been looking but can't find instructions on how to make them glow in the dark. Can someone point me to the post or repost?? Thanks!!
