Tiaras, Tutus & Tie-Dye: A 5K Trip Trifecta - UPDATED: 8/2/11!

Thanks for adding me to the group ladies!!! I'm very excited about joining yall and getting to know yall as well. I've asked my Aunt, Charlo, and I think she is IN for the 5k!!!!! Woo who!!! Now, we just have to start saving our money. We both just LOVE Disney World now. I called her up one day and asked if she wanted to join me on a Disney Trip...my Mom and I LOVED Disney World so much and I just needed to feel close to here and wanted it to be at Disney World. So, I called my Aunt, asked if she'd be willing to go with me in the next couple of months...and she totally agreed. She and I have become so close since my Mom's illness. Well, the rest is history, we went that trip, enjoyed every second of it, and have gone multiple times since then together. She appreciates the "little things" of magic that WDW is all about.

She and I went in May of this year and left there telling the Castle that the next time it sees us, we will be different people...healthier!!! :)

So, I'm training...I'm doing the C25K program and I'm currently on week 4. I am struggling, but I'm still jogging...S-L-O-W-L-Y jogging! ;)

Thanks again for letting me join your circle of friendship ladies...I'm so excited!!!! :yay:

Good lord, I don't even know you and I'm proud of you! :goodvibes

I love the DIS.

Anyway, take the C25K as slowly as you want! And have you read the Courage to Start? I highly recommend it. It really made me realize a lot of things about running. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: but only once! I'll try again this trip, but I doubt it!

No gyms this trip for you! I need top secret travel agent behind the scenes info and photos! I think your spy name should be Agent B. (of course sung to the tune of Agent P from P&F. You can't just say it). :thumbsup2

BF used the AK gym on our recent trip and loved it.
My only interest in the gym was their massage menu. ;)

Massage menu - now you're speaking gym language that I understand. :lmao:

Shall I add you to the Possibly Interested list?

Include me as possibly interested. :goodvibes Thanks!

We are talking about going in February again in 2013. We will see if the scheduled weekend for the 5K ends up being our school vacation again.

I am trying to get motivated!

I definately overdid it the first day, my calves and other muscles were so sore! I planned out a short walk, but didn't follow it, took some side streets & just zigzagged around a lot - it turned into a long walk. I also took the stairs at work a few times before & after. I ended up taking a two week rest. Taking it easier now, and paying attention to distance so I won't overdo it again.

Tried again last week, and walked Wednesday with 1.3 miles. Felt fine afterwards, and walked 2.0 miles on Saturday morning, since I needed to go to the store. I really enjoyed the Saturday morning walk. And it was nice to get out of the house, because everyone but me sleeps late.

Hoping to get in two walks during the week and one on the weekend. It poured all day today, and will probably rain tomorrow. I need to come up with a plan (gym?) for when its cold/rainy/snowy. And I definately need better sneakers.

Hola, ladies!

I am sorry to say that I got injured running a couple of weeks ago. I tried to start up again last week, and it was obvious I couldn't continue. It's my inner thigh muscle on my left leg, and it's just still giving me trouble.

I'm going to visit my sister tomorrow, we're doing a big ole road trip to her house. She and her husband just put in an awesome pool, so I'm going to try walking in the pool and see if that helps it heal a little bit.

Very frustrating to not be able to run.

I bet the pool will really help!! That is a great idea to slowly get back into your training. :thumbsup2

I hope it does. I really hate not running or any form of exercise, but it actually hurts when I walk.

Did you have your doc's appointment for your leg yet?

Yes. :headache: I'm so frustrated. Turns out I have fractures in two places on my foot instead of the one they thought at the ER. I am going back to work starting tomorrow BUT only 4 hours a day instead of my normal 8 hours. I'm having serious anxiety about the financial aspect of this but I want to heal properly like my Doctor wants. It's a frustrating situation. By the time I'm cleared to exercise again, it's probably going to be October! :headache:

Yikes! Well, as much as it stinks to hear it, like many have said to me, the important thing is that you heal properly! Give yourself time to heal and don't push too hard.

TK - sorry about the injury! hope the pool helps. enjoy your road trip!

LL - I posted on your PTR but this whole thing stinks and I hope it gets straightened out soon!

I plan to start walking again tonight (one must walk before one can run - LOL!)

Thank you! It's feeling slightly better this morning, I'm hoping I'm on the road to recovery. :thumbsup2

Gotta start somewhere. And I love that quote. "One must walk before one can run." :thumbsup2

Glad it's feeling better, but I do hope you won't push too much early on. I had a similar injury a few years ago and, unlike LL, wasn't able to cut back my work hours very much. Because I continued to stress it, it was ouchy for months. :sad1: So be careful & patient as you ease back into your normal routines.

As for me, I fell off the wagon for a week or so when we were traveling, but now am back to training. I need to be ready for the "5Ks" I'll do every day at Disney in just a few weeks! :yay:

Thank you for the kind advice.

I'm actually visiting my sister right now, and she has a new salt water pool. Did I mention that before? I'm shot, my father and I just did the drive to her straight overnight last night, so, needless to say, all pistons may not be firing at full capacity. :lmao:

Anyway, I went in the pool today with her and the kiddos and walked some laps and same a bit and it doesn't hurt, which is great. I can still feel it when I'm walking normally sometimes, so I'll go easy on walking / running, but am glad I can at least get some exercise inside the pool.

I know this is going to sound funny, but I feel flabby. When I work out, I feel fit and toned. I know it's in my head, but it's also those endorphins. I miss them.

YEA! Finally got the computer fixed! So glad your water-walking went well. Smart idea. And hopefully you can use a pool at home to keep moving while you heal.

As for feeling flabby? Me, too! :lmao: I know exactly what you mean. Even if it's all in my head, the flabby feeling is pretty darned real. Avoiding that feeling is often a big motivator, tho.

I just wanted to pop in here and wish all of you who have been or are in the path of the hurricane: be safe and God bless.

We made it out of Hurricane Irene unscathed! I know neighboring states weren't as fortunate. :sad2:

Glad you're ok, BE. What a romp that was! Thankfully, all my folks and their homes are fine, from godson in Virginia all the way to MIL in VT. Phew!

Hurricane Irene was good for a couple of things: 1. She reminded me how blessed I am. 2. She helped me rack up almost double my target distance each day! Logging extra miles burned off lots of anxiety.

We lost power for 18 hours and lots of trees down but other than that all good here! Some people in our area were out of power for three days!

Hey, folks! Haven't been on the DIS in a while but wanted to pop in and update everyone on my training.

I can't remember if I mentioned hurting my leg a while back? But I did. While running. Anyway, I had to take a break from exercise for a few weeks, but the past two, I'm getting back in the swing. Yesterday I walked just under 2.5 miles at my slowest run pace, so I'm feeling pretty confident that I'll be able to get back to normal soon.
