Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

If this was a response to me, heck no, I'm not booking a throwaway room at Atlantis, we're booking excursions, and paying out the wazoo for the whole trip, so my mom can have a great experience while she can still enjoy it. Before you throw stones, maybe you should ask instead of assume, but yes, I am judging my own standards; just like there are those that are saying too bad if you don't book by 60, too bad if some here don't meet those standards. I'm far from perfect, but certainly try to live my life as well as possible without hurting others in the process. Taking a campsite and not using it means someone else can't, and yes, maybe it's someone who can't afford anything more. How much clearer does that have to be made? I don't even know why I was stupid enough to come back to this thread, because clearly almost everyone here thinks this selfish and inconsiderate practice is fine and dandy, and are able to justify it by saying it's not against the rules. Well, just because it's not illegal, doesn't make it right. How pathetic.

It the room, campsite or whatever is fully paid for for the time how the person that got there first and was able to book it is up to them as long as they don't damage it. Booking is first come first served always has been that's the way it is. I see nothing wrong with not using what you paid for.

Now booking soe thing to get magic bands and then cancelling once they are received that is wrong as nothing has been paid for.

Yeah we do this. We booked 2 nights at the HRH and got three days express passes cheaper than buying them. The rooms are awful totally cramped and it isn't a nice place to stay so we stayed in our three bed roomed DVC treehouse and used the express pass and the room to chill during the day.

The Royal Pacific is cheaper. It's very nice which doesn't matter if you aren't staying in the room anyway. If you're booking a throw away room, go with the cheaper option.

Yeah I get that, it wasn't originally planned as a throw away room until we bought our DVC points but once I saw how small it was I was glad it had. It didn't occur to me to go back and research for a cheaper room. And my teens wanted to spend time at HRH which we did we just didn't sleep there.

Posted this on another thread.
In regards to the "throwaway room", Disney only allows pre-booking of FP+ for the check-in and check-out dates at 60 days prior to your check-in date. If you had longer onsite stays, you would be able to make FP+ reservations for your entire stay (up to and including the check-out date) starting 60 days prior to check-in. However, they still allow FP+ pre-booking exactly 60 days prior to the date for the rest of your visit. For example, I am going to the Beach Club on May 31 followed by the Dolphin June 1-6th. 60 days prior to check-in, on April 1st, I expect to be able to complete FP+ reservations for May 31st and June 1st (check-in/out dates). I will not be able to make FP+ reservations for June 2nd until April 3rd, or exactly 60 days prior to June 2nd. I will be able to make June 3rd on April 4th, June 4th on April 5th, etc. The problem on the throwaway room thread is people could make the first 2 days then freaked out because they couldn't make any further reservations. They just had to wait a few days. So the throwaway room is still a viable option until pre-booking of FP+ is available to all offsite guests.
Now if this changes, please let us know :) I would be surprised, with offsite FP+ pre-booking on the horizon, they would close this loophole now.

Campsites are still available for my dates, so I am not concerned about blocking anyone else out. Doubt that will quiet any of the "that's immoral" cries but thought I would put that out there.

ETA not to rub salt in a wound, but I also wanted to point out that Disney, contrary to some other posts I've seen lately, is still giving AAA discounts on the popup campsites (15% on mine today). You do have to provide your full AAA number and they said you'll have to show it at check-in.

To those that have their 60day tomorrow and the next... Please report back and update..wondering if the new 30 day window for Ap will close this now? There is a thread going on just read. Thank you

I think the loophole may have changed now to 30 days out after check- out day (if it is not closed completely). We are AP holders with onsite throwaway stay in November 2013 - After our stay I was able to schedule FPP 60 days out for any day until today. Since today I can only schedule 30 days out despite previous onsite stay. So throwaway room may now allow only for booking 60 days out for 2 onsite days and the rest will be 30 days out for AP holders and for now unknown number of days out for MYW ticket holders.

General reports are that non-resort and AP holders are currently restricted to 30 days out (I think as part of testing, not necessarily the end result), but as an AP holder who already had a resort stay coming up, I can still book beyond the end of my stay up to 60 days out.

Wanna know how it works at the campground? This is how it works...there are 90 partial hook up sites TOTAL. on the other hand there are over 9,000 value rooms available. Please for the love of Pete, if you are booking a "throw away reservation" have some courtesy and waste a value room which is much more plentiful.

We are a family of 5.

Campsite (fits 10 people) was 90$
Value room (larger version that fit 5 people, even though we were never going to use it) was 217$.

I was supposed to be courteous and pay 117$ more in case someone *might* want that campsite ? During low season ? Um... no

Had both been the same price, then sure - I would have chosen the value rooms and left the campsites for the campers.

You say that people should not use a campsite because maybe the person that was blocked out of it can't afford anything more.

So, going by your logic, if someone can afford to shop at Nordstom they should not shop at Walmart since the stuff there is cheaper. They should leave the cheaper Walmart items for someone who might not be able to afford Nordstom. Have you ever shopped at Walmart ? Target ? Big Lots ? Bought an item on sale ? Then you are taking something away from someone who might not be able to afford more (you are not in that category since you mention going on a cruise and paying out the wazoo for your excursions. If you can afford that, well...). And according to YOU, that is selfish, inconsiderate and pathetic.

What if someone books a campsite stays there but doesn't go to the parks? Is that ok? They are not using the EMH, FP+ etc. So they are taking up a campsite that someone who wants to use all those perks could have stayed at.
Theyre physically occupying the campsite. AKA camping on the campsite. There's no requirement that anybody occupying/using a resort actually visit any park.

I'm hoping a onsite stay continues to "unlock" 60 day availability for both ap and MYW ticket holders. Perhaps the throwaway room will be a viable option even longer than I originally thought?

Exactly my point. There is also no requirement that you physically occupy a site. If you are purchasing a service it's up to you how you use it. So if someone wants to pay for a site and not sleep there that's their choice.

Or if someone really feels guilty about it they can put an ad on Craigslist for anyone who would like to spend a day camping out for free at Disney. :lmao:

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I thought the point of this message board was to gain insider information about the always-confusing, ever-changing, technology-challenged world of Disney. Dare I say, "to work the system"?

Perhaps the Administrators can start a forum, "Ethical/Moral Quandaries of you upcoming WDW stay" so we can move these arguments elsewhere...

My "loophole day" is tomorrow. Yesterday I could book for 5/11 and 5/12 off of my throwaway. Today I'm at 59 days out. Can't book past 5/12. Waiting to see if I can book 5/13 tomorrow.
