Three Things...Gratitude Thread

GREENbelts - Every place that has them seems to call them something different, but our town calls our network of trails Greenbelts. It may be humid, but it's so nice to have a place to walk/run that immersed in greenery vs. the cement jungles along the main streets.

Work - Our physical office building is in a part of the city with Green in the name. There's very little green actually in the area, but it's nice to have a work place to call "home."

School Colors - The girls' high school's primary color is green.

Afternoon everyone!

1. Key Lime Pie - my mum has always been obsessed with key lime pie and I never understood why when I was younger. But when I grew up and stopped being fussy about food, I learned to love this pie too and in fact anything else too that is key lime or key lime pie based or flavoured.

2. Salad & Veg - cucumber, lettuce, green beans, broccoli, asparagus, green peppers... while I'd much rather be eating some less healthy and sweet, I have grown to appreciate and enjoy eating salad and veg a lot more in recent years than I ever have before.

3. Plants & greenery in general - I'm not very good at keeping plants and flowers alive, but I'd hate not to have green areas in and outside of my house as well as in the local area. Its so nice to go out for a walk in a green area.

I also second Green Belts - Boston's is called the Emerald Necklace. --

And am adding to my list a favorite green sweater my aunt made me.

Pacific Humboldt Coast fort Bragg California...my Uncle had a massive lawn... and well..huh... our mother was furious that we messed up our Aunt bathroom .. but the aunt gave us grace.."they live in the desert and I have never seen kids enjoy green so much

This green lawn is a platform for vacation Bible school and youth activities night ... imagine the joy of green

DH did his post-doc in San Francisco. Unless you went to the park on the weekends, there was no grass to be had anywhere. Once DD was born, we decided to move back east. One of the deciding factors was we didn't want her to grow up where the front yard is sidewalk, the back yard a concrete parking pad, and we'd have to go to the park if we wanted her to see grass.

Green

All parks, city, state, national. Ballparks, too! (Natural grass, of course) I remember the first time I went to Yankee Stadium, coming out of the tunnel and seeing all the bright green grass.

Green veggies, especially spinach and broccoli

Christmas trees and all evergreens

Happy AUGUST Friends

@leebee - I miss the lime green DIS Board days. I have a lime green Mickey Head pin and a DIS Board member pin that I have on my backpack to identify myself as a DIS Board member, but nobody has said anything to me in recent trips. In my trips between 2004 & 2012 I had many people that saw my pins say Hi to me, we’d exchange our screen names and talk a few minutes - it was fun!

#1 - DD21’s IS AN AUGUST BIRTHDAY - My best friend turns 22 on the 21st. Grad school starts on the 18th, so I’ll be traveling to see her so I can take her out for her birthday. My baby isn’t a baby anymore.

#2 - LOCAL SCHOOL STARTS - I feel bad that kids go back to school so early, but I’m selfishly happy to have the gym be less crowded with people (teachers & students) returning back to school.

#3 - GRAD SCHOOL STARTS - I’m very grateful that DD21 has the opportunity to attend grad school. She is excited to start this new chapter in her life. If all goes according to plan, she’ll have doctor in front of her name in 3 years.

It’s not winter
We still have sunshine and warm weather actually a little too warm but I’ll take it over cold weather any day !!!

School used to start at the end of the month but they have moved it up to the middle of the month now which is kind of sad for the kids I’m really sad for people driving because traffic gets so much worse when school starts but I know this sounds kind of bad but I’m kind of grateful that school starts because it’s a lot quieter during the day because all the kids are in school even though I feel bad for them having to go to school during the day in August because it’s still pretty hot around here but they’re lucky now because most of the schools are air condition now they weren’t when I was a kid since I work from home I’m grateful it’s a lot quieter

And a lot of people are squeezing in those last vacations before the kids go back to school So work is a little bit slower as people are in and out trying to get everything taken care of before school starts

August hug to all

Dad's half birthday will be on Monday. I will do something fun for him. Praying we will also be able to celebrate my finally being able to walk forward again toward a complete recovery then, too.

Memories of church choir resuming regular rehearsals in August. Those were special years to me. God willing, I would love to be part of God's choir at a church in the future.

Birthdays- DD18 and I are both August babies.

Montana- DD16 is signed up for a camp in Montana in a few weeks. After all of the glorious CO and CA weather in July, I'll be so happy for pleasant Montana weather in August.

Perseids- Not the greatest viewing from where I live but I love that one of the biggest meteor showers of the year occurs right around my bday. It's like a gift from the universe.

Labor for hire

August 1970s was great to walk into a green beans Oregon cannery and work the next shift.. never had a bad task. And for that I was grateful

August 1980s was the state Fair down the city street... when they built the ground it was out of town... now in downtown

August 1990s garage sales and farm auctions

Now in Yuma .... nothing.... well it is empty of winter visitors

Hi @slo ! I had the same experience, meeting other DISfolk in the parks. It was fun, and I wish people still did it!

AUGUST things...
Both DH and SIL have birthdays in August, DH on the 15th and SIL on the 17th. SIL and DD will be in Disney for his birthday. She's been paying on it for almost a year, staying at AKL w/savanna view, one park day (AK) which will include the Caring for Giants tour, a Starlight Safari, and dinners at Jiko and Sanaa. I am jealous, but I know they need the time away, together. Besides, DH and I get to keep the now-9-year-old for the 3 nights they are gone!

BEACH VACATION!!! We have rented a cottage in York Beach, ME for the past 5? 6? summers for a week every August. This is where I spent every summer as a child, where I had my first job, etc. My sister and brother both still live in the area, and my cousins are within an hour drive- and this year, we'll have the little guy with us for the first 4 days (see above)! It won't be as restful as usual, but it'll also be fun. We are renting a different cottage from where we've rented in prior years, and we'll be "babysitting" for the beginning of the trip, but it'll still be fun!

TOMATOES!! Finally, finally everyone's tomatoes are coming to harvest. We'll hit the farmer's markets every weekend this month so we have plenty of fresh tomatoes on hand. I have saved several tomato recipes I've found this year and can't wait to try them with beautiful, delicious fresh tomatoes (instead of those hard, pink things we find in the grocery stores... not really, but grocery store toms can't hold a candle to the bounty that comes forth from gardens in August!)

Happy Friday everyone!

Dad's birthday is this month, he'll be 84. I am so thankful for every day God has given me with my parents.

August 2023, DH and I spent a week at WDW by ourselves celebrating our 25th anniversary! It was a wonderful trip! We had to go in August instead of June for our actual anniversary because I have to teach summer school every year. We managed the heat just fine and DH actually relaxed. I think it's time he and I go back. Resort only would be just fine with me!

Crops are growing their bounty for harvest!

It's NOT WINTER! I HATE WINTER.

I'm not looking forward to the start of school. 18 days of freedom left before being stuck in a concrete box for 40 hours a week. I am thankful that I have a job. I do thank God for that.!

My one and only will be 39 this month!

Now that I’m retired, I love that I no longer have that feeling I always got on August 1st that my summer was quickly disappearing. I am very grateful for that!

I am actually looking forward to school resuming in 17 days because our time with our DGD will be more predictable and scheduled.

Morning all!

1. School holidays - August is a full month of school holidays here in the UK, which I love as it means theres less traffic on the roads when trying to get home from work. School traffic over here is horrendous. Although they do tend to put roadworks on during this month which causes another problem altogether

2. Bank Holiday - August has a bank holiday Monday which means a nice 3 day weekend off work and theres usually lots of events and summertime festivals going on then. It also marks our last bank holiday (i.e a free day off work) until Christmas time!

3. Summer - i agree with WDWEPCOT on this one, I'm so grateful that August isn't winter. It's not always warm here but it's a lot better than winter!

Good Saturday Morning

#1 - DOWNTON ABBEY - My favorite TV series of all time and for those that don’t know, it’s about a family that lives in Highclere Castle. I follow Highclere Castles Instagram page to stay connected to my favorite show and the actual real life family that lives there

#2 - THE MAGIC KINGDOM - My favorite park at WDW. I will never get tired of seeing that beautiful castle. I appreciate it more and more each trip.

#3 - SANDCASTLES - I have great memories watching my DH make sandcastles with my little girls. My in-laws had a timeshare on The Gulf. We’d go almost every year, and my girls always liked making sandcastles with their daddy.

Love castles

I have been fortune enough to be at DISNEY several times for Earth Day and they always do a huge sand castle and I have enjoyed tremendously seeing the sand castles they are absolutely gorgeous is such a beautiful talented thing they’re not always castles they’ve been animals they’ve been all kinds of things but they are just absolutely gorgeous I’m so grateful I’ve gotten to see those

Dover Castle i’m so grateful that I got to see a real castle and get to go in it and tour it it was just so cool to be in a real castle and think about the people back in the day that used to live in this castle it was just really cool

Windsor Castle & Tower of London again extremely lucky unfortunate to get to see those castles too I’m a huge history fan so I guess was just over the moon happy to see real castles Very grateful

Magic Kingdom Castle That’s my favorite castle it’s actually the first one I’ve ever seen and I enjoy seeing it every time I see it
