Three Things...Gratitude Thread

1) I'm very grateful to have known an elderly couple who lived next door to us when I was a kid. He kept a huge garden and always welcomed the neighborhood kids to check it out. She was a retired schoolteacher and always made cookies on report card day so we would come and show her.

2) I'm grateful to another neighbor, a friend of my mom's, for "borrowing" me to go to The Nutcracker with her when her own girls had outgrown it and she still wanted to see it through a child's eyes.

3) I'm grateful for the secretaries at the schools I used to sub at, who were always cheerful and helpful, and most of all...grateful!

Today's Topic - 3 old acquaintances you are/were grateful for

1. My ex-sister in law. We have always been more like sisters, than in laws. We shared everything back then, and still do to this day. I am Godmother to her only daughter, who was named after me. 💕
2. My best friend Donna, we've known each other since grade school. We live miles and miles apart, yet we are still as close in heart as we've always been
3. I am grateful to the man who used to live across the street when I lived in MA. He was always so kind, would do anything for anyone. He constantly helped me out with everything I needed. I heard he passed a few years ago, and it made me so sad.

🍾🥂🎊 Happy New Years Eve DIS Friends 🎊🥂🍾

#1 - I’m grateful for my best girlfriend of 49 years. We’ve been friends since we were 2 years old.

#2 - I’m grateful for my 2 different neighbors of 18 years. We’ve been there for each other for everything throughout the years.

#3 - I’m grateful for my DD19’s travel coach that we’ve known for 11 years. He was a huge part of getting DD recruited at the college she’s now playing for. He’s still there for her today with advice whenever she needs it.

My old neighbors growing up - absolute lifeline for me !! My neighbor next door often had my sister & me for long stretches of time ❤️
A lady I used to babysit for as a teen - fond memories of her - she was going thru a divorce but was always available and there for me - we did a lot of activities together and she was awesome to me ! She taught me how to drive a car !! ❤️❤️
A person from high school who sadly is no longer with us - Also helped me out and was always there for me - this person was 3 years older than me but always made time for me and checked in on me - it’s been 40 years and I still miss them daily !

I’m grateful for all the other adults that were in my life as a child who helped me out - my childhood was not good - most all family lived out of state - I had two Aunts who lived close by - one who tried to help and one who avoided the situation - sadly the one who helped died when I was 22 - the one who avoided I don’t speak to
I’ve always tried to help my kids friends if I sensed they were in a bad situation as I understand how that is - I try and not overstep their parents but gently guide the kids so they don’t make stupid choices that have life long damages - it’s has always been shocking to me how much of that is out there - very sad ! Some kids were fine some not so much - heartbreaking - you never know what will impact someone - what may not bother me may be a big deal to someone else - what I may be able to move past easily someone else will find impossible - it’s keeping them from doing destruction - I find that impossible and have a hard time sitting back and watching the train wreck - but I have to accept it’s not my job to stop the train no matter how painful that show is - it’s painful trust me !
Back on point - I’m very grateful for the adults I had in my life as a kid - I went and found most of them and I hope God blesses them daily for their help & kindness !
I appreciate all my current old friends - some I’ve had for almost 40 years ! We’ve been thru a lot - most have never lived by me - we are long distance friends but we make it work !

Happy Nrw Year to ALL my DIS Peeps!! I wish you all Health & Blessings in 2023 !!!

1. All the old women and men who "raised" us kids in church. You know - the Sunday School teachers, the VBS helpers, the little men with a butterscotch candy...

2. My BFF since I was 19. She was in the Air Force and so was my BF. She lasted, he didn't.

3. The guidance counselor who pulled me in his office my senior year and told me not to throw it all away over boy.

Happy New Year's Eve Day friends!

3 old acquaintances you are/were grateful for

1 Family friends and friends who by the Grace extra of God have become family such as in the kindness thread and as we grow in this very thread as well. My sincere appreciation to each of you!

2 Two human friends and one poodle friend all named (or nicknamed) Gigi! Also, my elderly friend Shirley from church who will be turning 96 in February has shared with me that her great-granddaughters often call her. G.G. For Great Grandma. Gigi :)

3 Church family and friends I have been blessed to know and I pray grow in faith with over the years.

1. The teachers my kids have had. Many of them went above and beyond and I am grateful to have sent my kids to school knowing that they were almost always very well cared for.

2. Tenants—we have some commercial tenants who aren’t exactly friends, but are great people. So wonderful to know that they treat our building as their own and keep us in the loop with any issues that come up.

3. Coaches—like teachers the majority of my kids coaches have been good or great coaches and even better people. Definitely part of the village.

1. The elderly women who came into my life during different time periods when I needed a maternal presence after my mother passed away.

2. Teachers who made a strong impression on me from early childhood all the way through graduate school.

3. Friends who were only in my life for a particular time period but were important in my life at the time.

Happy New Years Day Friends

#1 - I’m grateful for my annual day of NOTHINGNESS  (that banana is exerting more than me today - LOL!)

#2 - I’m grateful for the NEW years holiday - there’s something about closing out one year and starting a new one that I’ve always welcomed and enjoyed.

#3 - I’m grateful for NAIL Polish - I love polishing my nails and I have fun with all the different colors I have.

N Things

1. Nighttime: I love the evenings when things slow down and start to get quiet. I find it calming.

2. Nature: I really enjoy a rails to trails set of biking/walking trails near my home. So enjoyable. There is a section close enough to my home to walk to, but I like other parts that are 10-15 minute drive more for the different scenery. Very blessed to have that resource nearby (and it’s free).

3. Neighbors: ours are mostly great. Even the ones that aren’t great aren’t horrible. I know we are super lucky in that regard.

N things!

1) Neighbors. The neighbors on either side have been so good to us during the 25+ years we’ve lived here. The one neighbor used to snow blow our driveway during storms when my husband and I were at work. It was such a blessing to come home and be able to get in our driveway. When my Mom was sick, he drove her to some appointments when we could not. And I will forever be grateful to him for the summer when my daughter had high school soccer practices during the week and he drove her to and from her practices. We are so blessed.

2) New Year holiday. Because this holiday fell on Sunday, my husband and I both have tomorrow off as a holiday - so bonus day off. This hasn’t always been the case for us with weekend holidays with previous employers, so I’m grateful for that.

3) Nuts. I hate to borrow others’, but I do love them - peanuts, cashews and almonds are my favorites. I wish they were a little more calorie friendly.
