Three Things...Gratitude Thread

(Senior Citizen Theme - I'm going with seniors from my childhood)

I'm grateful...
  1. for having both my grandmothers in my life while I was growing up. - Those memories are precious!
  2. for the older couple who used to live next door to us. - They were both "extra grandparents" to all the neighborhood kids. (She even made cookies on report card days!)
  3. for a friend of my grandma's, who I used to go with her to visit. - She was a retired schoolteacher and a fabulous example of how to grow old with grace.

Being a senior myself (72), I try to pay forward everything that I appreciated when I was young because of seniors.

When I was a beginning teacher there was an experienced and wonderful teacher who kept putting off retirement. She was so generous and willing to spend time with me to help with all the things a new teacher struggles with.

A family member who is in his 90’s and despite the major losses in his life, he continues to grow and learn and does a music video every Sunday playing the keyboard. He amazes me.

My DH (68), and his entire senior softball team. There are guys in their 80’s still playing softball!

Aw, I love all of your touching shares. I am smiling right now to think of my friend Ruth who is 98. Every month she teaches a small painting class to about a dozen people at her home. She's definitely an inspiration as is another elderly friend named Terri who volunteers in a lot of ways in her 80's. Have a good night, friends and remember to tell the people you love and care for that you do, NOW. Don't wait and allow them the blessing of doing likewise for you:grouphug:

Me/Myself/I 🤣 , DD15, as well as our namesake -I guess that could really be three all in itself, but I'm clustering, so I guess S names for the starter.

Social Media -It's sort of a blessing and a curse, but it does a lot of good. Not that I enjoyed having to fork over the $, especially considering these things are almost always in the attics of TX homes, but we just had our hot water heater replaced this morning. I found this plumber through social media back in the spring when we had an unrelated issue. Social media also helped guide me to the closest reputable emergency vet on Saturday night when the dog was having some really concerning issues.

Sorority (specifically my chapter) -Through the magic of social media (see what I've done there!?!?), I'm able to stay in touch with a number of my sisters. These people had such a hugely positive impact on my life. Most live mid-Atlantic and New England, so my moving to FL and then TX after graduation sort of cut me off from a lot of those people for a while. Greek life definitely isn't for everyone and every chapter and campus Greek system is so different. So, I'm not sure I would have felt the same if I pledged my house at a different school or went with a different house altogether. Still, I met some great girls, had an absolute blast, did some good things in the community (even social ones do philanthropic work), went out of my comfort zone several times to mix and collaborate with girls from other chapters and regions, and most importantly...I wasn't put through any of the nightmare scenarios you see on the news. Side note- DD18 chose not to go through recruitment. My house has a chapter at OU, so she would have had better odds as a legacy and I've been itching for an excuse to buy one of the more elaborate badges, but it's just not her thing...and I totally respect that decision.

3 things you're grateful for beginning with the letter S

S
orry I've been away so much. I'm having a challenging week!! (I'm also trying to have less screen time generally, lately.)

A bit of gratitude always helps.

The Shuffle mode for music. I love playlists I can dip into randomly.

Smiles from Strangers. Is it me, or are they more rare these days? Anyway, I always love friendliness from people I encounter out and about.

Salt & Vinegar crisps (potato chips). Yum! 😋

So many wonderful answers as always :)

Sundays! I enjoy a day of praise and prayer in an extra way right now through online worship and God willing one day soon in person again. Hand in hand, singing to the Lord brings me joy as does reflecting on scripture.

Sunrises especially on Easter are such grace to see.

Stickers are a fun way I enjoy spreading extra faith, smiles, and cheer to all ages.

Sleepovers with my DGD! (having one tomorrow night)

Snuggling in the morning with her

My sister-in-law, who I call my sisterfriend, whose name happens to start with S. We listen to each other, offer advice if asked, and have hours long phone visits that we both treasure. (and depend on for our mental health!)
