Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Donuts... No explanation necessary!
Steering wheels/tires... I love to drive!
Mickey heads... I bought a new ring for myself (I NEVER buy myself souvenirs) when we were in Disney a couple of weeks ago. The center stones are round cubic zirconias, arranged in the shape of a mickey head. It's so sparkly- I just love it!!

ETA: I forgot about PIZZA!!!

Good Tuesday Morning!

Sorry I was a no show yesterday - my world & schedule has been turned upside down with the new puppy. We officially named him Otis ❤️

#1 - Wrapping a pork tenderloin with it - this is so good! I have it leftover in the fridge now.

#2 - Crumbling it on a baked potato - I made extra with the pork tenderloin so I could have some in the fridge to do this

#3 - Pairing it with eggs - I do enjoy the simplicity of bacon & eggs.

Bacon grease - Now doesn’t that sound healthy and appetizing?!? Seriously though, it makes for the best green beans.

Store packaged crumbles- sometimes you want bacon in a dish but don’t want to go to the trouble of making bacon, but also don’t want to settle for old school bacon bits.

The smell - certain food scents linger and spread better than others. I have such fond memories waking up to the smell of cooking bacon, and the scent of bacony goodness usually sticks around a while.

I was also reminded of yesterday’s theme this morning. I’m up early each day with the dog’s medical care and I happened to catch the moon around 6am.

Wrap asparagus!!

Bacon Grease !! The go to cooking aide !!! I’ve never in my life pitched bacon grease !! That would be like committing murder 🤣🤣 I cooked greens the other day and got my jar of bacon grease out to put some in my greens !!

Love the smell of cooking bacon !!!

Otis paws and prayers dear Slo. Thank you for the love you are giving him and allowing him to gift you.

I don't eat any meat so will just share three food favorites.

Campbell's Chicken Broth will forever have a place in my heart. Dad and I share some daily for lunch. For me, this daily shared part of a meal has also become an extra time of Communion with God. I'd love to find a Campell's Chicken Broth (no glitter) Christmas ornament should one exist.

Sprouts Brand Original Applesauce is another staple for me. It's all natural , no sugar, healthy for me and tastes like a sweet apple.

My favorite small breakfast pancakes made from Kroger (Ralphs) Brand mix id a cozy and tasty way to start each day.

BLTs. These are a stand-by for dinner after a long day at work. I always keep bacon in the freezer and it doesn't take long to 'peel off' a few strips for a sandwich. Sometimes we make them with cheese and/or avocado, too.

I have a Brussels sprout recipe that uses bacon and nuts as part of the dish. Delicious! Bacon kicks up almost any veggie recipe!

Stack-ups. This is a breakfast dish my mom used to make. On a piece of buttered toasts, layer bacon and then top with a fried egg (or two). It's all neatly stacked up. Then you carefully cut the entire thing into squares- usually 4X4. Each bite then has a piece of toast, a piece of bacon, and a piece of egg. It's a childhood favorite, takes me right back to being a kid every time I make it!

1. I'll second the BLT - I love those sandwiches. When I see them on a menu when eating out, I almost always order one. I love them from home too, but it's interesting seeing different ways they are made.

2. Bacon wrapped water chestnuts - it's a special Christmas treat we have every year.

3. Just plain ole bacon - I have it 2 or 3 mornings a week. I take the cheaters way out and just make in the microwave. It's not a good, but it works since I'm always in a hurry (I eat it in the car on my way to work lol)!

Another vote for ready-to-use crumbled bacon!

Turkey bacon, when I want to feel a little healthier about it.

And the fact that DH and one of our nieces have made a game of sharing their love of bacon. - They give each other bacon-themed cards, find unusual bacon-themed novelties for each other, etc.

I hardly ever eat meat, but I love the smell of bacon cooking.
I used to love BLT’s when I was young.
I was really in the mood for potato salad one day and asked my DH to get me some when he went food shopping. (we usually go together but I must have been sick or my back was hurting) He brought home this potato salad that was so yummy! Turns out it had some tiny pieces of bacon in it. :)

My neighbors growing up who were an older ( senior ) couple had her mother living with them - she used to sit outside and she looks so lonely just sitting there all by herself I was a preteen and I thought she just looks so lonely so I started going over there and just talking to her and it was just so interesting hearing her stories about when she was a kid and a young adult - late 70s was when thus would have been and I’m gonna say I believe this woman was in her 90s so she had stories from the early 1900s it was really interesting listening to her talk since most of my family lived out of state I was really heartbroken when she passed away / I really didn’t get to know the couple that well but the mother I did I think of her often

I worked with a woman for about 10 years she was close to retirement we remain friends for about 20 years after that She was like a second mom to me I think all the time I known her and everything that woman went through I only seen her once ever she had the patience of a saint !! She was just so nice to be around and no matter how many times I had heard the story she was telling me I always acted like it was the first time I heard it - I miss her so much !! ❤️❤️ we use to talk for hours and hours every week and go to lunch every month once we didn’t work together any more

My neighbor is older and retired he is always helping me I seem to have become like ab adopted kid to him !! He’s shown me how to do a lot of things or just plain did them because I can’t !! His wife is so nice we often chat for hours they are a very nice couple and I’m very grateful to have them as neighbors

My beloved paternal grandparents were absolutely a life changing duo in my life. God graced me enormously with them. Dad, too, of course, though I don't think of my dad who I cherish as a senior, he is.

God also blessed my life with many elderly friends from church. Dad and I were so thankful to God for making it possible for us to visit my late friend Sue on her actual 100th birthday last year. Asked what her secret to long life was on her 99th birthday, Sue's response was, "faith, family and friends, and forgiveness."

Another elderly late friend named Mary who God had me meet years ago at a Caregiver's support group. Mary was quiet, faithful, and one evening while she along with myself and a few other friends of ours were having dinner at a restaurant was used by God to remind me my dear grandma was indeed with Him forever and that He was at our table more profoundly that night, too.

Happy Wednesday to all! :)

My grandparents- My paternal and maternal were so different, but great in their own unique ways. My paternal grandparents lived a simpler life. Visits with them often involved cooking and playing outside. We also usually were with them for Christmas, Easter, and often Thanksgiving. My maternal grandparents were the ones who would take us out to eat, we'd go to the movies, we'd walk through downtown visiting all of their friends in the local businesses (they were since retired, but used to have a business in that same area), we'd play cards and BINGO, we'd watch all kinds of tv at night or if we were with them during special times like the Olympics, and we'd go to the movies (and grandma would stuff her purse full of snacks 🤣 ),

My voice teacher- I was around 12 and she was 72 when we started working together. Her background, both in education and teaching, was with Juilliard as well as one of the area's highly regarded school music programs, before her retirement to private lessons. In private instruction, she rarely took on kids, and everyone needed to audition and make it through a trial period before officially becoming a pupil. Many didn't make it. Talent would often get you past the audition, but you had to click with her to be in it for the long term. After a year of working together, I'd learned how to fix and work with all of the challenges of a changing voice. I went from being one of top good singers that had to fight it out to the one everyone was trying to beat...and that just grew the longer we worked together. My mom was always running late to pick me up, so during that time, she'd also educate me on the in's and out's of higher society. It wasn't to be elitist...it was to know about elitist things if I ever found myself singing for a major music organization. The socialite crowd is usually part of who funds and frequents these things and they love to mingle with the talent. We had a falling out during my senior year in high school, but many of her lessons stuck with me over the years and that society training after lessons ended up coming in handy during my years with the symphony.

My "down the shore" neighbors- I think I was in 2nd grade when my parents bought the house down the shore. My dad loves to fish and wanted a small place to keep his boat so we wouldn't have to pay for marina storage and wouldn't have to add driving time to the equation when getting an early start to go fishing. He also saw it as an investment in case we wanted to take a summer off and rent it out. We had the most incredible neighbors to our right. They were like another set of grandparents. They were originally from Jersey City (which was the foundation for many of their stories they'd share), they made the most amazing Italian food, and they had grandkids around my age that lived nearby and were like built in playmates. They didn't go out much in their boat, so we all often shared our seafood with them and would have dinner together along the water. Memories!!!

I'll hop on the grandparents bandwagon too, both my grandmas were very influential when I was little.

As an adult, elderly great aunts and great uncles were surprisingly important. They were more inclined to listen and believe, probably because experience taught them quite a bit about people.

1. I'll start with my mom - she just turned 80 and is such a giving, generous person. She's still do anything for me as I would for her!

2. Older ladies in the church when I was a kid - I have so many great memories of many ladies who influenced my life when I was a kid growing up in church

3. My grandparents - I was lucky to have grown up knowing all 4 of my grandparents. They were huge blessings in my life!
