Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I've been away for awhile (just not much time online other than work), but am going to jump back in - I've missed this thread!

Today's Topic (Sun, 12/31) - 3 people you were grateful for this year

1. DH - we've been married for 31.5 years now and it's easy to take each other for granted. I'm going to try not to do that!

2. My kids (i'm going to lump them into one) - now that they are all adults (26, 25 & 21), our relationships are so different than they used to be, but I think we're all slipping into our new roles pretty good. DD25 and I don't talk as often as I wish we did, but hopefully I can work on that this year too!

3. My mom - we're currently making plans for her 80th birthday now (her birthday is February 13th). I'm hoping to make it as special for her as she's made everything for me and all of her family and friends!

This year, I'm going to try to be more intentional with my life and it starts with the people that I'm most grateful for!

Extra hug, Daisy Duck and reminder we care!

Praise extra to God SpaceMan! Thank you for sharing such blessed news!

Newski_Mom, I love how you said that! I pray daily to in some way not take for granted those God has trusted me to love and care about, place in my life. Dad, of course, in particular. Reminds me of something I posted last year. Please don't wait dear friends to tell someone you care for that you do or allow them the blessing of telling you! Do it now! Thank you.

Sweet Dreams to all with love.

How well you are doing ! Someone else is struggling with way worse than you

Electricity / indoor plumbing / heating / air conditioning - don’t get me wrong so grateful but often take them for granted until they stop working

Car - so grateful for a car - not easy in area without public transportation to not have one - I’m losing my night vision so I miss that - just imagine not being able to drive at night - think about all the times you do it ( it’s a lot ) I’m grateful I can still day drive

Another vote for indoor plumbing (huge!!!) and electricity - I'm really sensitive to light levels and my energy kind of crashes at sundown if I don't turn bright lights on.

Telephones - I'm old enough to remember writing letters for fun, but it's hard to imagine not being able to make appointments by phone, call far-away relatives on holidays, etc.

Enough food to eat. Sometimes I actually do think about that one - when I'm cranky because I'm a little late making lunch or something, I worry about people who really don't have enough food.

Good Morning!

Yesterday’s topic….

#1 - It’s the start of wall washing & deep cleaning here at the house. I gotta get it all done by February 17th, which is DD20’s first game of the season.

#2 - I start a new puzzle now that my dining room table doesn’t need to be used for awhile.

#3 - It’s a non-rushing month, which is nice after the holiday season.

Today’s topic….

#1 - A warm bed to sleep in.

#2 - Hygiene products - all of it - deodorant, toothpaste, shave gel and etc.

#3 - Well fitted and comfortable shoes

Happy New Year Gratitude Thread Friends!

Things I appreciate about January:-

:)It was lovely to decorate the house for a cosy Christmas and it's just as good to clear the decks for January. You know that feeling you get any time of year when you declutter and reorganize a space - January is very much about that feeling.
:)Fewer distractions, generally, and an opportunity to assess focus and priorities.
:)The days are starting to get longer!

Things I, sometimes, forget to appreciate: -

:sunny:My senses, my agility, my heart, my lungs...
:sunny:Simple pleasures.
:sunny:Simple foods.
:sunny:Basic utilities.
:sunny:The people in my life.
:sunny:Myself.

There are so many things I am sure I take for granted. So many.
1. Shelter—our house is older and there are a lot of improvements I would like to make, but it is warm, safe, dry and mostly comfortable.
2. Food—we have never been in a position where we needed to scrimp on food or forego healthy choices.
3. Clothing—again we have everything we need and a lot of what we just plain want. Lucky and blessed.

I'm grateful that the December holidays are over, because I usually have to spend them alone.

That's about it for now.
Echoing @PollyannaMom, DaisyDuck
I love being out in nature, even in the winter, and I'm grateful to the organizers of First Day Hikes - a great way to start the new year! I went to one earlier today at Blue Hills:

What a stunning photo and a clear, refreshing, beautiful (there aren't enough words!!!) way to start 2024.

Good Wednesday Morning!

Perfect timing since my library book expired today.

#1 - JK Rowling - Her imagination is beyond incredible. I tell people all the time - even if you don’t like Harry Potter, you can’t deny that this woman’s imagination to come up with this amazing magical world is amazing.

#2 - V.C. Andrew’s - her books are a little dark, but I enjoy them - especially The Landry series

#3 - Stephen King - he’s the first author, of the books, that made me a reader many many many years ago. I really should revisit the first books I loved to read. I know @WDWEPCOT will echo this answer since she loves him too 🙂

Another vote for J.K. Rowling - I love Harry Potter, and the world-building and attention to detail in that series are amazing!

James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits - It's a great book and I follow him on Instagram as well.

Beverly Cleary - for the wonderful books I read to DS when he was little.

Yes I will will he’s my FAVORITE ❤️
Stephen King !! I believe I have read just about every book he is over wrote at least once so I have read several times I’m currently reading one of his books right now for the second time I absolutely love his books have since I was a little kid. He is from my birth state and I was lucky enough when I was a little kid to get to see his house! I’m fascinated by the way his brain works he’s an amazing writer
JK Rowling - The Harry Potter books are just beyond unbelievable how that woman wrote those books just blows my mind I have also read those several times she did an amazing job on those books and the fact that she got so many kids to get into reading good for her!!!
Ridley Pearson - wrote Kingdom Keepers series of books❤️ I was lucky enough to meet him on a DVC cruise very nice gentleman I enjoyed those books tremendously and I have also read those several times they are really interesting books to read I enjoyed them tremendously

God, Author of my continuing life and of Love.

James Herriot who with humor and compassion took us into his daily work. I sure came to love some of the animals and care for the people he introduced us to. It also felt at times as though we were old friends.

Second Beverly Cleary, dear PollyannaMom and other kids books that not only encouraged and brightened some dark days during my childhood but that have given me a smile to reread as an adult.

I love children’s literature and will say:
1. Sandra Boynton—her books are for very little ones and I often give her books as part of a baby shower gift.
2. Karma Wilson—her books are more preschool aged and wonderfully illustrated (Jane Chapman).
3. Stan & Jan Berenstain—my girls loved those books.

I could go on and on. I have great memories of reading to my DDs over the years.

1. Nicholas Sparks - he kind of got me back into reading as an adult
2. Colleen Hoover - I just started reading her books and am really enjoying them
3. Beverly Cleary - I'm stealing this from above. She has such great books to develop a love a reading in kids

I'm going to check out James Clear's book - I also follow him on instagram and screenshot lots of his posts. I find him very motivational!

First time participating...

1. Dr. Seuss/Theodore Geisel- Something with his word play really resonated with me since I was very young, and I still love his books to this day. It was tempting to pick other childhood faves like Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary.
2. Kurt Vonnegut- I found him my junior year of high school. This was the year we focused on American authors and were required to write a second semester term paper based on the works of a singular author. I can't recall why I selected him from the list of authors, but his works were so entertaining and made this herculean project a breeze.
3. J.K. Rowling- I was originally thinking Stephen King or Tolkien, as both showed me that I could power through good stories, but the Harry Potter series stuck with me more than any of their works. I reread several of them when I was hospitalized and later on bedrest following surgical complications in late 2021.

So very grateful for a few authors:

Robin Norwood, Women Who love too much literally changed my life when I was about 19 and stopped me from making all the wrong choices, found her through a friend.

Gavin de Becker, Gift of Fear taught me so much about trusting myself and teaching my kids to trust themselves, found him through Oprah while I was pregnant in 97.

JK Rowling for me as well, totally enchanting, I can see everything.
