Thoughts on the mini golf courses?

What are your thoughts on the mini gold courses? Is it worth it to take time away from the parks? Which is your favorite: Fantasia Gardens or Winter Summerland? And why?

We had one day dedicated to being a resort day this trip! We did Fantasia Gardens and enjoyed it. My DH and a couple of the boys did the Fairways course, while the rest of us did the regular mini golf. The Fairways course was really tough, while the mini golf course was pretty easy. There is NO shade--just beware of that.

I wouldn't take away park time for it, but it's fun! My DH and I did Fantasia Gardens on a non-park day on our last trip since it was free. We did the mini-golf course, not the fairways (too hard!). We haven't gone to Winter Summerland, so I can't speak to that. The only reason we did Fantasia Gardens over Winter Summerland is because it was in a convenient location. We were having lunch at Beaches and Cream at the Yacht & Beach Club, right next to the Swan & Dolphin.

I will second the opinion that there is very little shade at Fantasia Gardens. Not sure when you're going, but we went in August and it was SOOO hot. We had to sit in the Swan's lounge for about a half hour to cool down afterwards.

Going to do mini golf is a nice break from the parks mid day. It gives a chance to be away from the crowds.

We have played both mini golf courses I think Winter/Summerland is more fun (at least from the decor end of things)

We go for usually 12 nights so have some non park days booked for activities like this, or Disney Quest, or other fun non park activities

We are going for 10 days and we have two days scheduled with no ADR, we have park hopper so we were just going to decided on a whim where to go. But we thought it might fun to go mini golfing and to Splittsville luxury lanes. I have never been to Disney Quest!

Do buses run from resorts to the mini golf?
Winter-Summerland is located at BB water park, so just take the bus to BB. Depending on where you are coming from, you might have to transfer at AK or DHS. For nighttime visits after BB is closed, there is a bus to/from Epcot.

No buses to FG, but it's across the street from the WDW Swan Hotel. You can get a boat to the Swan from DHS or the International Gateway at Epcot (no connection to resort buses), or a bus from the other parks or DS. Then you can just follow the walking path to FG.

I wouldn't take away from "park time" to go, but if you have "break time" in your schedule, the minigolf courses are a fun way to spend some of it. We have not done the fairways part of Fantasia Gardens, but did the others. We liked Winter Summerland better than the other Fantasia course. But, I would have really liked to have tried the fairways, since that seems pretty unique as far as minigolf courses go. The issue for us is that the couple of times we tried, there was a very long (OK, >30 minutes) wait for that course.

Could you take an uber to the golf courses?

Yes, you can uber to the mini-golf courses. We just did this in May.

We prefer Winter/Summerland. The themeing is super cute! Having said that, we have only done it when we are also visiting Blizzard Beach and we've only done Fantasia when we stayed at an EP resort. I don't know if we would do them by themselves. I would also suggest doing mini-golf either first thing when they open (usually at 10 am) or after the sun goes down as all the courses can get pretty hot.

We've gone every summer the last five years and tried mini golf the first time last year & had a good time!! If you go frequently to WDW I don't think it's bad to take a little break from the parks in the evening and go do mini golf :)

We played the first time this trip. We had WP&M and were also staying offsite 4 nights before our 'official wow trip'...which is when we used up all of our WP&M passes. We played Winter Summerland once. It was underwhelming. We all had a good time, but it was really lacking if you've played any mini-golf is other big tourist places (I'm thinking Myrtle Beach, SC or Gatlinburg, TN). We only played the one time. Used all other 7 entitlements on other things.

Well, mini-golf can be fun but I wouldn't take time away from the parks. I see the mini-golf as something to do when you are done with the parks, or need a change of pace.

I'm not particularly a fan of mini-golf in general, but I like the Winter Summerland courses. I've never been to Fantasia Gardens. I wouldn't do either one on a once-in-a-lifetime type trip, but it would be a nice diversion for people who've seen and done the parks to death and want something different to burn a little time on.
