Those of you who do not have young children?

Congratulations! Welcome Home! If you can stay til at least Monday after Thanksgiving. You'll get to see all of the Xmas decorations and the parks will be empty. NO LINES!!!! :thumbsup2

We bought when our youngest child was 12 and our first (and only so far) grandchild was four months old back in December 2001. Prior to that trip,
we had been to Disney several times with our kids (I think 3 times with the older two and twice with the youngest). Since that trip, the whole family goes at least once a year and DH and I have gone alone for four or five days around our anniversary in May every year. So, yes......I do think you can still enjoy DVC even after the kids grow up. Our youngest is now 17 and he loves it more than ever.......can't wait to apply to the College Program.....he even has it calculated as to how many months until he can apply. I can't wait either because that just gives me another excuse to visit more that year!!!!
Our grandson who is now almost five is a true Disney kid, also. He loves to dance with grandma during the Beauty and Beast segment of the Wishes CD
and his favorite place to stay........BWV on the canal side top floor with a great view of Tower of Terror, which he loves!!! He's upset with us because for our January, 2007 visit we're booked for VWL (where everyone else wanted to stay).

Kids all grown up. We go alone 99% of the time and absolutely love it there!!! Not going to be giving DVC to the kids until we are too old to lift our arms to put our fingers in the scanner!!!! :rotfl2:
Hey, by that time, we'll probably just have to stand there and they'll do a whole body scan! :cool1:

Older kids can be great fun. Some try to act 'cool' but still get just as excited around Mickey. :cool1:

As far going without kids - It gives us adults a great chance to be total kids. And I do think going as a couple without kids can be very romantic.

I've gone as a single and that can be great, too! :woohoo:

DonnaL - FYI-If your son works in the Disney college program, you can get a great discount to buy more DVC points!!!
:yay:

magicmama - I know......during a conversation I had with our guide a while back, she did mention that to me....I think I'd like to pick up about 100 to 150 pts at BWV .....don't know if they let you get the discount for sold out resorts though.....that's a question I'll have to ask if the time comes!!!!

I actually joined DVC in 2002 after my divorce. I knew that WDW would always be such a special place for me, and I think my son feels the same although he will head to college next year. I'm looking forward to solo trips (first one this July!), holiday trips with my son (since I don't have much close family I can see spending some major holidays at our "second home"), and if he's really lucky, I'll let him use some points!

We bought this past year. My wife and I just turned 40. Our kids are 13,15 and 21. We love it, the kids love it! This past year we've gone or are going 4 times without the kids and two times with the kids.

I can't speak for the time when our children are grown. But I can say that during the many years before we had children, we used to come to WDW regularly. It was (and still is) one of our favorite vacations). I'll tell you a story:

The year after we married I took my wife for the first time to WDW. We stayed at the Poly and had a great time. On the last night, just before midnight, my wife got out of bed, got dressed and without saying anything left our hotel room. I waited for a few minutes, but she didn't return. Finally I got out of bed myself, pulled on some clothes and started searching the resort for her. I found her in the main lodge at the one sundries store still open, cruising the souvenir aisles, not buying anything but simply keeping the Disney experience alive for a few more minutes. She was thoroughly hooked.

I think our investment will still pay off, long after the kids have gone their own ways.

Enjoy those magical trips, with or without your son!!

Realistically, are you still enjoying and using your DVC points? Is it crazy to think of buying in when you are a boomer with a teenager, knowing that in 3 or 4 years it will be just you and DH, and in 20 years or so, you'll probably be giving the points to your kids (if they want to pay the maintenance fees.) (DD14 is all for it!) We just experienced BWI and fell in love with it, and are considering a resale at BWV. Really, I know we could just rent points or reserve a villa every year, but we're still toying with both options. Any opinions are welcome!

My parents have been taking us for over 25 years and I can say they don't regret their DVC purchase but in the last 3 years we have enjoyed our trips to WDW less each year.

So I really think unless service turns around property wide, and unless the situation with so many guests that are more into themselves and less about how it affects others, changes then I see us changing our vacation patterns. We might start using our DVC to take non Disney vacations.
