Those of you who do not have young children?

We bought into DVC last year when I turned 50 and my dh was 43 not because of children (we don't have any now) but because it is a safe environment for me to go on solo trips plus trips with my dh. He can play around of golf while I go to the spa and then spend our evenings having a good meal. I enjoy the resorts as much as going to the parks. :thumbsup2

We don't have kids either and we have gone very year since 1999. It is worth it even if you don't have kids in my opinion.

My parents bought OKW back in 1992. I was 22 at the time and my sis was 20. They bought for themselves and have LOVED everyminute of it. They have taken us several time and also love to rub it in our face when they go and we are stuck in the cold northeast.
DH & I bought into BW 5 years ago and the whole family goes together at times and we love it.
Mom & Dad are now considering using points for the Med Cruises.

Wow it was great to see so many people in the same boat at I. I bought last Dec and it's just my son and I and we are thrilled. My parents who are 76 and 79 are looking forward to joining us in Vero Beach and for F & W in Nov. I only wish I was in the position to have joined 7yrs ago when I first toured. :rotfl:

We're fairly new members, as of last Sept/Nov. Our kids are now adults, DD 22 & DS 19. I've wanted to join for many years, but never felt we could afford it. Finally last year I decided Disney was getting my money every year anyway so we purchased a small 100 point contract. Then the Friends & Family promo convinced us to add on so we split the 120 points into 2 contracts. This way we can give them to our kids someday.

This year we are taking another couple with us and no kids. :cool1:

Our kids and their significant others love Disney too so I'm sure we'll have many magical moments in the years to come. All six of us went last Oct and they're already asking when we're all going back. DS college schedule we'll make it difficult for a while.

My DH and I are both mid-40's and bought into DVC in 2002. We just did an add on because we realized we needed more points. We do not have any children.

Some folks have questioned why we would buy into something that is for kids. I tell them WDW and DVC is not just for kids. We went on the cruise last year for our 20th anniversary. This year we are staying at BCV and adding on a few days at VB. Next year another cruise and a few days in Dec to see the Christmas decorations. We have some friends looking into DVC because they see what all we are doing for vacations now.

We could kick ourselves for not having done this sooner....

We dont have any children and dont plan to for atleast two more years. We love the points. We are certainly having a great time enjoying adult trips for now... :teeth:

We're new AARP members, with no children, and we love our points. We switch off between taking family members (sometimes with children, sometimes without), and going as a couple. We love it.

Realistically, are you still enjoying and using your DVC points? Is it crazy to think of buying in when you are a boomer with a teenager, knowing that in 3 or 4 years it will be just you and DH, and in 20 years or so, you'll probably be giving the points to your kids (if they want to pay the maintenance fees.) (DD14 is all for it!) We just experienced BWI and fell in love with it, and are considering a resale at BWV. Really, I know we could just rent points or reserve a villa every year, but we're still toying with both options. Any opinions are welcome!

DH and I are 53 years old, our 23 year old daughter is out on her own...we bought into DVC 2 years ago at BCV and VWL....we plan on going down there 3 to 4 times a year(we went down in January with DMIL(at 83 had never been to Disney before) & DSIL, in Oct going down with my 2 DSis's, neice, her husband and their 2 children, and my nephew)! It's such a beautiful place, clean, friendly...yes magical! You wouldn't always have to go into the parks....just stay and enjoy the hotels...if you get a one bedroom you have all the amenities of home...you could choose to cook your meals and/or eat out-especially now that DVCer's can get the meal plan!

I say go for it...you won't be sorry!

Our children were in high school when we bought in 1994. They are now through college and are own their own!!! Time flies. DVC is the best investment we ever made and are making so many happy memories now that the kids are older. We are all going to WDW this May to celebrate Mothers Day and over Thanksgiving to celebrate my 60th birthday. As our children grow older, they are so into getting together with our family and DVC gives us that opportunity.

Love our DVC and no regrets after 12 years!!!!!!!!

we just bought in at SSR, our kids are all grown, as far back as I can recall I dreamed of taking our kids, as a growning young family couldn't find the cash to go, now with grandkids always dreamed of taking them and now it seemed possible, they are 14 and 15 but we got them there last year, this past xmas they ask if they gave up the huge xmas we usually have, could they go back this year as their xmas presents, we said sure in talking about this our youngest son( married 1 month) found out he was fighting a possible deadly illness said he would like to go as a family get together just once so the planning started we knew most the family kids couldn't afford it any better then we could starting a family so we talked ourselves into buying in and letting all the kids get a chance to enjoy the magic saving the expense of lodging over the years. last year watching the kids even at 14 & 15 beam with joy was so great brought tears to my eyes to watch, at that age it also let us as older group enjoy a slower pace and they are old enought to not be tugging and pulling and crying cause they are tired. never to old to enjoy.

Not quite sure why not having kids would play into the decision? We don't have kids, and we like going to WDW. We enjoy going on our own, and also enjoy the flexibility of being able to invite friends.

Same here...our best friends thought we were nuts!! We solved that problem by inviting them along to Vero Beach for a week last spring. They loved it so much that they're considering buying in, especially since they have a new grandson.

We don't have children either, and like so many others, bought it in 2001 for ourselves. We've enjoyed it with family and friends, and usually "use up" leftover points for the year with a stay at AKL for our anniversary. We would like to try some of the other options besides Disney stays, too, but so far have only been to Disney. So that remains an option in the future if we ever get tired :rotfl2: of Disney.

We'd like to try a cruise sometime, too.

DS was 16 when we purchased in 2002. He graduated in 2004 and we took him and his friends as a graduation present. Last summer we took our god child and his family with us.

DH and I went on our first trip to WDW by ourselves in 2004, went on SSMC05 and will be going on SSMC06 this year. We love Disney with our son or family/friends but also love it by ourselves. We can go at our own pace. One of the best things about being a member is that we don't have to see or do everything every time we go because we know we will be back again in the near future.

Best of luck in your decision to purchase. Annmarie

Sounds like favorite trips (from Raleigh)- Blowing rock, NYC, and Disney - haven't been to Hilton Head yet, but might try it instead of Myrtle next time. All of these posts are starting to convince me DVC might be the way to go!

I'm looking forward to going without the kids. We have been going for years and years by their schedule, now it's our time. DH & I have gone down once without kids for an extended weekend and had a great time. Now that DS(28), DD(19) and DS(16) seem to so involved in their lives, I'm looking forward to going with DH. The only problem we have is DS(16) is involved in travel hockey and travel baseball and our vacation time revolves around that!!! :confused3 I want to start doing a different tour every time DH & I go down. That was something that was too expensive for a family of 5, but for the two of us affordable.

We didn't even buy our first contract until the year DD started college. It wasn't intentional, but we're so glad we did it. We have much more flexibility in travel times, and now that she's graduating next month, more $$ to play with! :teeth:

We don't have any kids yet. But we're enjoying it.
