but what is your monthly grocery bill? :confused3

We are a family of 6 and I have no idea if I am spending too much on groceries, or if others spend about the same. It seems like every time I'm at the store I walk out with at least $75 worth of groceries. And don't get me started on the bill at Sam's Club!

I guess we spend between $450 and $600 a month on groceries for 6 people, depending on what's happening that month (parties, holidays, etc).
Is that about right? Also anyone have any great money saving tips for your fellow DISers??

ETA: This is strictly groceries, not going out to eat, which is seperate for us and not something we do often. With 6 people even going to eat at McDonalds is expensive.

That is SO not the question that I thought you were going to ask!!! :rotfl2: I think I'm going to go back to another thread. ;)

DH and I spend about $400 a month for just the two of us. I know that's expensive, but we NEVER eat out and we only purchase Kosher food and that alone will up the bill a bit. I do shop at Sam's Club and I included that into the monthly total. DH and I shop a couple times a week every week, but every two weeks, I do the BIG shopping.

Your spending sounds about right....we spend about $200/month for the two of us....

We are a family of seven and our monthly grocery bill is usually between $700-$800.

:headache: About $600 for the 3 of us. But that includes school lunches, we eat out a lot, so I am including that, and I buy our groceries at Walmart, which includes, dog food, cleaning supplies etc.

When my 2 boys are home from college  :scared: :scared: :scared:

We spend about $600 a month for 4 of us. It's ridiculously high but there is basically one grocery store where I live and it is fairly high priced. To top it off, I work full time and don't plan my shopping well, I stop every couple of days and don't plan meals, so I know that makes it more.

We do eat about about 1-2 times a week. We've been trying hard to cut back on the grocery bill by being better prepared with coupons, having soup and sandwich night, and shopping at BJ's in bulk. It's hard for me, because I'm just not a plan ahead person.

What's ironic is that I HATE the grocery store...so you'd think I'd do everything possible to limit my time there!

We probably average about $400 for the 2 of us. We're in NYC, and I try and buy organic or from farmer's markets, so that bumps it up a bit. We very rarely eat out, though.

I think you are about right, we are a family of four and I spend about $100 a week, it used to be $75, but now that we are trying to eat healthier, more fresh fruits, vegetables, etc. our bill is higher!

You really thought I was going to ask THE question didn't you!! Go sit on your naughty mattress! Or whatever it's called. :teeth:

It varies a little by month, sometimes we only spend $200 but then we go out A LOT, maybe 15 days out of the month.

Sometimes, when we don't eat out we will spend $300 - $400 a month. There are just 2 of us.

We buy a lot of fruit, nuts and cheese and stuff like that, so it ups the bills.

Such the opposite, we're in NYC too, but I think we might be closer to $700/month over all meals ... we eat out.

I guess I'm not doing too bad then. :teeth:

One thing I forgot to mention is we are NOT big meat eaters.
I know meat is expensive and I never buy any red meat. If we eat chicken I will go to Sam's Club and buy a cooked rotisserie chicken, because I don't cook raw meat other than the occasional ground turkey that I use for tacos, meatloaf, etc.

It really varies for us. It's just the two of us (plus two cats who eat very well), but we eat out a lot since we're in a retirement community that has a lot of inexpensive restaurants. Then, we sometimes buy more when we guests visiting, which is about once a month since we're new here and all the relatives want to see where we live.

Our normal grocery shopping usually runs about $120-$140 each time, which is about every week or two. Nothing is consistent but I'll guess at $300-$400 a month.

I'm going to JUMP on the naughty mattress!

I probably spend what you do, also for 6. Unfortunatly the bigger the kids get the more food you need, plus everyones tastes start to develop and so on.......plus buying in bulk gets pricey, I buy certain things at Costco, but there are alot of things I wont buy there. I impulse bought a double bag of cerial last time I was there and I know I wont eat the second bag  I usually stock up on cerial at Target.
