This is us..

Jack is the father every kid wants but very few have. So of course he will be taken from us! Ugh!

Pretty much feeling the same about William. Ugh. :(

Randall...I just love him. Midlife crisis stuff was hilarious. That is all.

Kevin has grown on me. His back story and needing attention shows so much about why he is the way he is.

Kate, kudos to her for leaving that kid. Maybe not the best thing to do but I can't say I blame her. I feel for her.

Previews for Toby being sketchy when Kate shows up...I don't think he's cheating on her. I think he's cheating on his diet. ;)

I'm glad they are showing more of Kevin , he really is like the middle child of a family. When he showed the necklace and said that is all he had left ....his was the only character I didn't like and I'm starting to now.

Randell remains my favourite. Love everything about his story. Being gifted and black back then tough life for him when he wants to fit in .Really that is what all the kids want to do fit in and be loved.

Kate , I can relate I too thought oh boy the mother didn't want ice cream or she would get fat and how that would make Kate feel. And looking at the size of clothes , I know myself I have done that myself. When she said she hates her mom , I thought I guess we only saw her mom visit Randell not the others.

Keeps getting better...must see TV for sure.

I am so interested to see what happened between Kate and her mom.

As a side note, I just came back from the dentist and there was a great article in Entertainment Weekly. Not very spoiler-ish, but *******Do not read any more if you want to be surprised*********

They mentioned we will see the big three as teens very soon, and Jack is still alive at that point. They said Kevin and Randall will argue about something and there is a strain on Rebecca and Jacks marriage.

My only (minor) objection to last night was Randall's insistence that he "might" have musical talent that was never developed. It's possible, but...his mom was a singer/songwriter, so there was a piano in the house growing up. I can't imagine that attentive parents wouldn't have picked up on some latent talent when he sat down and goofed off on the piano. And certainly, they would have encouraged him and gotten him lessons, had shown interest or talent. Then again, math and music go together often, and he certainly wouldn't be harmed by taking piano lessons, even if he doesn't have a bit of talent. I just think his parents would have nurtured any sign of talent, whether for sports, the arts, construction, whatever.

I think Jack died when the kids were around 15- mid teen years. When Kevin was talking to the widow last night and she mentioned her son and how he didn't want anything from his father and told Kevin the son was 15, Kevin said yeah, 15 is hard. Like it may have been around that age when his own father died.

I absolutely love this show.

That was my initial thought as well.

I thought the same thing.

I agree! I'm sure Toby has a whole smorgasbord set up and poor Kate continues to eat nothing but kale, yet the weight will continue to melt off of Toby.

AAAAAHHHHHH I didn't think of it being food. I bet you are right. Will they make Toby bigger with padding, then take some away? How will they make him get skinnier?

They might have to use some prosthetics too, for his face.

I read somewhere too that Toby starts cheating on his diet and sneaks food.

Yes to all of your commments!!!

Based on the feeling I get from the preview for the upcoming episode, I may have to eat my words about how great Toby usually is (last week his intelligence level plummeted, IMO). Of course, it could just be that they want us to think he has another woman in the house. It might not be that at all. Fingers crossed. If he hurts Kate, that's it for me.

Edited: Just saw the posts about Toby possibly having food behind the door. I hope you guys are right!

I think that may have been the original thought but you can hear the voice over when he says it was a long time ago. I think they are keeping their options open.

If you watch the after shows the actor playing Toby is thinner than he was on the show.

The actor that plays Toby already uses padding. If you see him in real life, he is much smaller than Toby.

I think the parents would have caught that talent too, and for what it's worth even bio kids often end up with a talent that takes a family by surprise, when no one else in the family history seems to have that same skill. But I do know what Randall meant by it. I'm a mom of three kids, only one of them adopted (another reason I love this show--I can relate to the dynamics of the "big three's" family), and I often wonder the same thing...wondering what sorts of talents or abilities or interests might be in our DD's genetic history that I don't even know about, or things I might have exposed her to early in regards to sports/arts/activities, had I known there was a talent for it in her family. I also worry about health issues that may crop up, and it's a difficult moral dilemna to wonder if I should have her tested for certain things (the breast cancer gene, things like that) or if that's an invasion of her medical privacy. It's something I think about and I figure something she should probably make her own decisions about as she gets older.

Of course, you can get surprised, even when you have biological children. I say this as the mother of a bagpiper! I'm Italian and Canadian, DH is German and English--we didn't see that one coming.

I also have a daughter who's a gifted cellist. Never saw that one coming, either. And 3 out of 4 love dancing--I assure you, they inherited no dancing talent from their mother.

I can understand your concerns on the health issues with your DD. On the good side, though, the likely problems, such as cancer or heart disease, aren't likely to manifest in childhood. So waiting until she's of age and can decide for herself won't harm her. Frankly, life's a crapshoot for all of us. My FIL was extremely healthy--played tennis on his lunch hour, went sailing every weekend, ate healthy--and died of pancreatic cancer at age 58. His big joke was, he never should have quit smoking, because that has a 10% cure rate (pancreatic is <2%). Meanwhile, I have an indigent semi-relative (fostered by my grandmother) who smokes like a chimney, spent half his life in mental wards, and is still kicking now, and he's north of 80. Go figure.

Missed Toby this week
Loved the interaction between Randall and Jack
Glad Kate called that bratty girls out.

Wow last night was so good. Yes Randall your mom liked you better....haha Loved his line about her not being the one who liked him better and that he was like a dog after scraps. Them fighting in the street was such a good scene they needed that.

Beth and William and the brownies. I knew something would come out during that. Randall saying cool his wife was doing pot with his dad. Felt bad when William said everything is good now he is dying.

Toby cheating on his diet after losing weight. The dinner scene is one I have been in before , sure have that dessert it's ok...really it's not because you want it so bad too.

Next week is Thanksgiving , the way this show is going it should be really good, what other secrets are going to come out.

Bravo to who ever picked this cast because they all can act and they make you feel for all the characters. Oh and of course the writing team ! Hope they can keep this up.
