This is us..

Since Randall attended a pricey private school and Kevin attended the local public school, how did the two teams end up playing each other? Usually the public schools are much larger so they have more competitive athletes to draw from. Smaller schools play smaller schools, not the huge public schools.

My kids go to public high school and play several private schools. Private schools in my area are smaller but they can also recruit, so they draw a lot of talented athletes that can compete with the larger schools.

I thought the best scene was the fight between Kevin and Randall. When Randall grabs Kevin and says, “I'm still black!” and they are getting up to run, I started cracking up. It was great how a bonding moment resulted from a fight in the middle of the street. That comment was a great wrap for the scene.

That was so funny.:lmao:

same here -- it's not uncommon at all for private schools to play public in football or any other sports.

Yup. My public high school's homecoming game this year was against a large private high school. We pounded them. :-P

I was so excited to see another phase of their lives in the new episode! I really love the time-jumping format, and I definitely agree the whole "Rebecca knowing" thing is going to get messier before (even if?) it gets better.

In the flashbacks, I felt bad for Jack - like Rebecca was finally getting a turn to do the things she'd put off, and he was still stuck in the job he didn't like. And I wondered how they let things between the boys get so bad without digging deeper into the cause.

In the present, I do agree the brownies were about getting William to eat, one way or another. I also think Kate should have accepted Toby's plan (to eat like her when with her, and keep any "cheats" to himself). I feel like she has a problem letting anyone do anything for her.

I thought it was rude of Toby to indulge in front of Kate, knowing what a struggle she's going through. If he wanted to indulge, he could have done it privately. Like she did later. He can be so sweet at times, but clueless the rest of the time.

Not where I live... The expensive private all boys schools play public schools here in Louisville.

Thoughts about this show are interesting.

So some can't stand Miguel for flirting with a woman at work, openly not behind closed doors? I don't get it. My parents' generation used to flirt with each other all the time. It was the norm. And I have a theory that couples seemed a heck of a lot happier.

I'm not a huge Miguel fan, or a fan of the scene in general, but was perplexed that it seemed gross.

The way the kids/adults are nonchalant about Miguel makes me think he is being portrayed in a way that didn't really play out in the end. Maybe he was divorced at the time of Jack's death, truly loved her and tried to be there for everyone. Or not!

Sometimes I openly wonder if it is Rebecca that was unhappy enough to find herself away from Jack somehow. Not from lack of love but feeling not heard over and over (her thoughts). But then she still wears the necklace so around and around we go. What an interesting show.

William's character is so incredibly well-written. And portrayed. He will be missed. And Randall. Still laughing from two or three weeks ago when he said "Okay white people ...." to his neighbours. He is such a brilliant actor.

As for Toby. She told him to get a dessert and he followed her direct suggestion. Her issue. He kept his word before that, with the dinner date. And I have never understood why people have to watch what they eat around people who are dieting. And especially when you can eat non-healthy at times and still lose weight. Doesn't have to be either/or.

When he said when they first met "well I will lose the weight then" I took it as facetious, not a promise or plan. I don't think he owes Kate anything. If she's not comfortable then walk away.

The thoughts on here that Jack might have a brain tumour made me sad. And make sense thinking back.

Early onset Alzheimer's went through my head as well last night. Both sad.

This show is proving just how amazing it is by the fact that we all keep thinking and talking about each episode almost for the whole week until it comes on again.

When Kate was at the gas station and was in her car eating the doughnut I had a thought. Maybe she's cheating too and that's why she isn't losing the weight. She looked a little guilty about eating it, but not guilty enough..at least IMO.

I can so relate to her. I've known a person who loses weight even when eating junk all the time. It's like 'well hurrah for you'.

So funny, for once I *wasn't* annoyed by Toby. He's a guy and he tried to do what he thought was the right thing and she insisted he have what he wants. A woman would have chosen something light to share but most guys take things like that at face value. In his head he had her "permission" to have whatever he wants, no guilt. We can't expect guys to just understand what we don't say. Kate needs to learn to make herself heard but more importantly she has to come to the realization that she alone is responsible for what she does or does not eat. I see so many people (myself included in the past) using not having someone to lose with as an excuse just not to do it. Even if everyone around you eats how you do excercises with you etc. weight loss is still a solo journey. You don't get right with yourself it'll never stick.
Agree with lots of what you said, and it pains me to say I'm starting to actively dislike this storyline and Kate's character in general. Seriously - why does absolutely everything have to revolve around her struggle with weight? :sad2: There simply has to be more to her (and every person of size) than just this. I was really optimistic about her getting that new job and where that could go, but in the end it just circled back around to being about her weight.

This is driving me crazy! Please help! When Rebecca returns to sing with her former band mates, there is an actor that plays the band leader that I have seen in another show. Does he look familiar to anyone? Where have I seen him before ?By the way, we love this show!

A lot of the private catholic schools here have the top teams for this reason.

I don't fault Toby in eating since Kate told him to get what he wanted. I know when I diet don't expect people to change there diet just for me that's unrealistic . I'm glad Toby told her he can't do the type of diet she wants him to do. I have been Kate many times. She needs to do this for herself and by herself. In order to achieve the weight loss and keep it off.

Glad Kevin and Randal had a breakthrough in there relationship.
Not Crazy about the weed thing. I do still love William. I don't like Randall wife she's a trouble maker.
They are making Miguel o unlikable I wonder why? Aren't we at some point going to have to root for him and Rebecca?

I'll rewatch, but Jack's reaction to the flirting did make it seem unpleasant to me. It didn't seem innocent and playful to me. But maybe it will if I watch it again. Also, Miguel could very well be divorced/separated/widowed already at this point. They didn't mention his wife, did they?

My ds goes to a public school and plays private schools at times. - I'm guessing in many areas there wouldn't be enough private schools to make a "league" etc. My bigger issue with that situation was the fact that they all left in the same car. Jack met them at the game. Kate was already there and they weren't sure if Jack would even make it, so what happened to the other vehicle? I'm just pretending that he took public transportation to the game lol.

I thought I was on the only one who wasn't crazy about the weed thing.

I don't really like the Kate/Toby dynamic. It was fun at first, but they don't seem to be growing any in their relationship. One gets hurt and walks out then they get back together without really resolving the issue. I don't understand why Kate insisted that he eat dessert so that he wouldn't eat it later when she wasn't around. I don't consider what my husband eats in private some kind of big secret he's keeping from me. Some people can eat more than others. It sucks, but it's life. I need to really watch what I eat, and I'm still not where I want to be weight-wise. My husband doesn't need to be nearly as strict. I don't ask him to change his eating habits for me. Some nights he'll eat ice cream in front of me while we're watching tv. Since I haven't asked him not to eat that in front of me, I don't think he's wrong. Other nights he may quietly go into another room to have dessert. I know that he gets doughnuts or other treats at work some times. Halloween candy just kind of disappears. I don't think he's keeping some giant secret from me when he does that either. But I also understand how Kate's weight affects all of her thoughts.

I think of it a lot like ordering and drinking alcohol in front of someone who has a past history with alcohol and is trying to get better. It's the fact that a person who has an issue with food, alcohol, nicotine, drugs etc. is really struggling and being around it is a huge temptation, so shoving it in their face is a little insensitive. Def. not anyone's responsibility to "watch" what they're doing around someone who's struggling with an issue like that, however it's def. also not supportive. As far as eating junk and losing weight anyways...that's really not what Kate or Toby's issue is. It's really not about losing weight (especially not in an unhealthy manner), it's about the connections and issues they have with food.

And in the first episode, Jate said she couldn't date a fat guy right now. I think she meant that she knows herself, and would fall off of her diet and eat with him. Toby said he'd lose the weight, so so she agreed to date him. If this was an AA meeting, and they started dating, and he told her he gave up, and wanted to start drinking again, it would be in her best interest to not see him anymore. To be that big, there is an issue with food addiction. It's not like she's trying to lose the baby weight.
