Day 5, Part 3 In Which I Use Witchcraft To Communicate With People
After the carousel debacle (which we later named "The Carousel of Not Much Progress"), it was time for us to blast off on the time tested fun seekers AND thrill seekers classic... Space Mountain, of course!!
This is one of the most fun rides of all time and that will never change. Ca-lass-ic. I figured it would be the only time I'd ride Space that day... but I was wrong.....
ANYWAY, it was lunch time so we headed to one of my former favorite CS places: Columbia Harbour House.
I say former because I don't really like the changes on the menu... next time we will most likely go to Pecos Bills, Tortuga Tavern (burritos haaaay), or Casey's.
I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the kid's chicken. I totally forgot that the kid's chicken isn't just a smaller size of the adult chicken, it's totally different and pretty crappy. Sorry for the lack of food pictures, but you really aren't missing much here.
My mom waited for the food while I went to the upstairs dining room to find a table (Tip: any time you can eat upstairs anywhere at Disney, you should!). On the top floor of CHH I found very few people and some great views. It was very plain up there, but simple and relaxing.
After a few minutes, I noticed a CM walking table to table talking to guests. I overheard him telling guests near me that they were going to close the upstairs area to anyone new. It was fine for people already eating to stay, but they would be putting a rope up at the bottom of the stairs.
Obviously, he had recognized that it was I, The Queen of the Polynesian Resort, and decided to sanction off the upstairs for VIPs only. I require this because I don't like riff-raff around me while I am trying to dine.
He came over to me next. "Good afternoon," he said. "I'm sure you overheard me talking to our other guests." I was happy he didn't address me as the Queen, because I didn't want to draw attention to myself. I was in no mood for photos and autographs. I deserve a personal life too, you know?
I said that yes, I had heard what he told the lucky few guests who got to the top floor just under the wire. He told me it was fine for me to stay upstairs, and then gestured to my BlackBerry, which was in my hand.
"I hope you can get ahold of the person you are dining with. I assume they will be in contact with you on this technological, boardering on witchcraft, electronic device."
I laughed so hard. OMG. I LOVE DISNEY SO MUCH. You gotta love a CM committed to the theme. It's Liberty Square. We're in the year 1776! They don't know what the hale a BlackBerry is!
I'm lucky I didn't get burned at the stake for possessing such a device! I assured him I would let my mom know where I was and thanked him for informing me.
However, I wasn't able to reach her on my witchcraft device because my cell service in CHH was really bad. So I walked over to the stairs and waited for her. There was a velvet rope affixed across the bottom of the stairs, which I found pretty funny. I looked down on the commoners sanctioned to dine on the ground floor. Peasants!
My mom appeared in a minute, looking confused. "Is this closed? What happened?" she said, explaining that she had just been over here and was looking for another way upstairs. I unhooked the velvet rope (Royalty has the authority to do so) and let her through. The poor thing was wandering around downstairs like a non-VIP! The horror.
I escorted my mom to our more-exclusive-than-Club-33 dining area and told her the story, which she found quite funny.
While we were eating, my phone rang and I saw that it was Jess, aka Disneyfreak508, aka Princess of the Frumps calling. I tried to answer it, but I couldn't hear anything. I walked around the room a little bit trying to call her back, because I figured it was urgent if she was calling me and not just texting me, since she had never done that before.
It turned out she HAD texted me a few times and I didn't get the messages until HOURS later! They all came at once that night around 8:00 PM, which was so weird. I couldn't get through when I tried to call her, and she tried to call again, but I still couldn't hear her! It was SO frustrating! I was like, if she's calling and calling, something really must be up! So I tried texting her, and that worked, and then I got a text back! SUCCESS!
It took awhile for this all to get established (stupid technology...Stupid energy...Stupid Judy!!!!!!!) but basically the point of it was that Jess was about to leave for the airport within, like, MINUTES, but she had two fastpasses for Space Mountain and her mom didn't want to go on, so she wanted to know if I wanted to come and ride it with her really quick! OF COURSE I DID!!!
It was such a great surprise. I mean, who doesn't want to get a call from a friend at the Magic Kingdom asking you to take a rocket through space with them?
I explained it to my mom and hoped she wouldn't mind if I bailed on her for a little while, since I didn't want to make her run across the park with me. She didn't mind at all and was like "Go! Go have fun!"
So I basically power walked/half ran from Liberty Square to Tomorrowland b/c Jess said they really were supposed to be leaving. I cut through Fantasyland and got there pretty quickly if I do say so myself.
The HILARIOUS thing was that as I was speeding through Fantasyland, I saw Tigger JOGGING. Alone. Like, he had no handler or anything (or maybe he did at one time, but had run away from them). Some kid yelled "Tigger! Tigger!" and he just waved and kept on joggin'. It was like he was just out for some afternoon exercise in the neighborhood and didn't feel like doing autographs right then. So funny. I WISH I had a picture of this but I was in such a rush.
I spotted Jess sitting outside of Space Mountain waiting for me. It was so great to see her again, and off we went into space together.
While we were walking through the queue I updated her on our Girls of the DIS trip plans, specifically regarding ROTCOMS which, if you're cool, you know stands for Rolling on the Concrete on Main Street. We plan to do that while singing showtunes, and then we're going to make a Girls of the DIS calendar. We're also going to sing the song "Cest La Vie" by B*Witched in front of Club Cool at Epcot. It's going to be amazing if we can all manage to make our schedules align. Hopefully it will happen in the next few years. Jess was totally on board for all of this, btw. Don't you love when you meet someone who doesn't think your Disney obsession is weird? Ah, the DIS.
Anyway, we had a BLAST... no pun intended. It was so much fun! Don't you just love spontaneous moments like that? It was seriously SO sweet for her to think of me and we had a great time on her very last ride of the trip.
Sadly, once we got off Space Mountain, it was time for her to go! We went to meet up with her mom in Fantasyland and chatted for a bit but they were about to be late for their plane so they had to bolt out of the park. It cracked me up cause I am the same way. I always stay at the parks until the last possible minute. I never want to leave!
Goodbyes are the worst, aren't they? We hugged, took a pic in front of Sir Mickey's, and off they went.
After saying goodbye to Jess and her mom, I texted my mom to see where she was. She said she was in front of the castle. Before heading over there, I snapped a pic of the Beast's castle:
Close..
Closer...
EXTREME CLOSE UP!!! WWWAAAHHHH!!!
Awesome, Awesome, AWESOME. I can't wait. I CANNOT WAIT!
I looped around the castle and got these shots, which are some of my favorites from the whole trip...
It's just the most beautiful thing ever.
We decided to head out of the park and back to Pop for a little break.
Ah... would you look at that blue sky?
UP NEXT: Judy Garland + Disney + Christmas = me in tears.
