You and I know about the OKW pool slide because of the DIS... and a handful of others who attended the Annual meeting know about it too....

BUT what about the other 74,952 people who are DVC owners... Do they know about it???

Why dont they know about it? Why did DVC choose to tell some members but not others?

Sorry if this was covered already in the huge OKW slide thread.... I tried to read it all but It started to get blurry...

That is some thread, isn't it? Well, you would see in there that right now your concern is one shared by a great many of us. It's interesting they made the announcement at some or all of the member meetings but did not at least share the information with the OKW owners! Several people have expressed that receiving something from DVC outlining what the plan for the slide actually is might be reassuring. My guess is that they didn't actually have a plan when they made the announcement. I suspect work will be done on the slide next fall so I don't expect to hear anything from them until mid-summer. Interesting isn't it?

At the meeting that I attended in Dec., a design for the slide had not been finalized. I wondered at that time if it had even been started. I would expect that an artist concept drawing would be published on the "Members Only Site", E-mail newletter and the magazine. If the decision to go forward with the slide had just been made, it will take few months before the design concept makes it to final concept with it's various layers of approval levels by DVC, safety concept inspections by the state/county goverment agencies to published concept. I beleive that is why we haven't seen or hear anything yet . JMHO. See should see something soon.

I don't know why they won't at least announce their intent to build the slide, unless they are not sure they are going forward with the plan. They announced turning the Disney Institute into DVC before they even settled on a theme, let alone the design of the resort.

if enough members are complaining about the slide - and yes even if they don't post - alot of DVC members read this site.

there could be enough of a back slash that DVC is reconsidering.

they have gotten into trouble before - like announcing the California DVC - then WDW sold the property.

so until the whole thing is finalize and all the powers have agreed to it - you probably won't see anything.

DI was different - it was coming from WDW - so they couldn't turn around and change their mind.

if you want this slide - then make sure that DVC hears from you....

Laura, that is my concern as well. Without getting back into the old what Disney can and can't do, it would be a lot more reassuring and considerate of the members for Disney to announce something to the whole membership, or at least all the members at OKW. I know a few people who own at OKW, but don't read here and weren't at the meetings and they had no clue that this was going on and were rather surprised.

And conversely, if you don't want the slide make sure they hear from you as well. ;)

In our Condo Association, there's an annual meeting; they always send out a one-page mini-minutes covering topics of importance for those who couldn't attend. You'd think that DVC could do the same - or at least post it on the Member website.

Unless it really was a trial-balloon; you know, run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes. ;)

I think an official poll, if not an outright vote, of OKW owners should be taken. Especially if we are paying for it. We should be told the cost of construction, estimated maintenance and the added cost of liability insurance added to our dues.

According to reports from the annual meeting, DVD is going to pay for the construction of the slide. The OKW membership will pay for the other things with dues increases. From what I recall, they did supply estimates for this increase at the meeting, but I don't remember what they said.

no OKW would only paid for the maintence and I assume the salary of the lifeguards.

the development costs would be paid by DVC development - the only reason I can see why - is that WDW now thinks that a slide at OKW is a must.

or at least that was the plan.

After the OKW annual meeting I specifically asked Sonya, OKW General Manager, about pool slide costs to OKW members. She & a financial type CM said members would pay for maintainance & lifeguards. The increase in dues wouldbe about three to four cents per point ($.03-$.04). That is the last official/DVC word I have heard.

Thanks.

It would be nice if we didn't have to get this from a forum, but rather from DVC.

Anway -- love OKW.

Thanks for the information JudithM.

Who do we contact (and how do we contact them), to let DVC know how we feel (YUCK!) about a slide at OKW?

TIA!

DrTomorrow...this is exactly what I was thinking. Putting their toe in the water with folks to see what the temperature is?

IMHO, DVC is "damned if they do and damned if they don't!"

It reminds me of when there were potential layoffs (at my former employer). If the managers told people what they knew when they knew it, there were lots of mad people because there weren't enough details (usually because all the decisions hadn't been made yet). If they waited until things were pretty much set, then there were lots of people mad bcause they were "springing it on people with no notice!" It was a no win situation for all involved.

Seems to me that this is the position DVC is in with the slide. Lots of people mad no matter what they do or don't do, and mad no matter when/how they announce it.

I've been to two BWV annual meetings. My impression was that they like to have some "big news" to share with members at the meeting about what they have planned for the upcoming year. Makes them look like they are working for the members. Maybe the announcement was premature since they don't even have a concept drawing after over two months.
