This (DISNEY)land Was Made For You and Me - July 2016 Weight Loss and Lifestyle Change Challenge

What fitness activities are you focusing on at the moment to burn calories? Are you running, walking, working out with a personal trainer, shopping, rolling a cart at the grocery store, or ????
If you haven't selected an activity, what would you like to start doing in the next few months?

Bonus question: which Indiana Jones movie is your favorite and why?
(There's only three, so choose wisely! :P )

I've talked about it ad nauseam, but running has been my activity of choice. When I first started I was strictly walking, but after two months things just increased and increased to where I am today.

I've just been doing my own thing, mostly deciding the morning of what I will do that day and planning my longer runs around cooler morning temps (thinking of doing 10 miles tomorrow with high 60's/low 70's temps). Once I'm done typing this, I'll try and do 5 miles at 5 mph. Wednesday for some reason I was pretty motivated and did 6 miles in the a.m. and at night did a mile sprint... just wanted to try and break 10:00 (something I haven't done since college) and I finished at 9:44. I'm slowly increasing my pace, just have to keep pushing myself to increase speed every few weeks.

-------------

As for which Indiana Jones movie is my favorite, tough question... mostly because I've never seen any of them. :duck:

My friends tease me all the time about movies I haven't seen. Ghostbusters is another... and I just saw Jurasic Park last year.

Someday... maybe.

Its been a while since I watched them I can't recall which one I like best. @courtney is there a reason you aren't counting the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull released in 2008? It makes 4..... I heard on the radio the other day that they are making another one and that Harrison Ford will play Indi (as if anyone else could!) but that he will be about 78 when it is released.... he's 73 now so that's another 5 years to wait! I wonder if they write in a son or grandson to carry on the adventures in the future.

Crystal Skull was on par with the Star Wars prequels, so we try to forget it exists!:laughing::laughing:

But seriously, yes there's four movies... but I am so so so so so excited to see the 5th. The Odd numbered movies tend to be the better out of the series for sure.

Bonus Question -- I have never sat down and watched the full movie. I am not a fan of the movie. I don't even know what the movies are called.

If you're going to watch one, I highly recommend Last Crusade. Sean Connery is in it as Indiana Jones' father -- playing a character that is a complete 180 from James Bond.

I've never seen Ghostbusters either - so don't feel like you're the only one who has missed out.

The Indiana Jones movies are a fun adventure, great if you like Harrison Ford around the time of Star Wars. You and your kids would have a blast watching the first three movies over the course of a weekend - plus Sean Connery is in the last one!

July 8 - Indiana Jones: temple of the forbidden eye

indy-13-of-15.jpg

Our last stop in Adventureland is the Indiana Jones attraction, whose entrance is about 10 feet away from
The World Famous Jungle Cruise. Indiana Jones is a tricky attraction, as it's an E-Ticket alternative from the
"mountain" themed rides, but... it's incredibly unreliable. Without fail the ride will go down at least twice
while you're hoping to get on it. The lines are long and you could easily waste a FP trying to get on the darn thing.

However... it's pretty darn cool. It boasts a similar ride car to AK's Dinosaur ride. You're joining Indiana Jones
on a mission to visit the Temple of the Forbidden Eye - but one wrong move puts your entire jeep in peril.
And the best type of peril - you get to outrun snakes, arrow guns, fire, and a big rolling ball.

Seriously. This is a MUST RIDE attraction. :hyper:

Ride trivia for you: there's some hieroglyphics in the caverns on the way into the ride. This is from
the original launch when lines were too long and they used to hand you a decoder card. If you stand
there long enough, you'll be able to make out what they're saying. Thanks AT&T for the sponsorship!

Question of the Day - July 8th
Indiana Jones may strongly dislike snakes and tourists (according to this ride) but he sure does enjoy
outrunning gigantic boulders and other things relevant to the plot. Dr Jones would be a great addition
to anyone's ragnar relay team. He's fit and ... hot! :)

Primary calorie burning exercise is walking followed by pilates class twice a week. I also have a pilates foam roller at home that I use every night. I'm going to try something more aerobic this month, either Jazzersize or Zumba.

Hands down the first Indy film. I saw it like eight times in the theater when it came out. At the end of the run the movie theater manager gave me one of the posters. I've always been a Harrison Ford fan girl and still find him to be heart throb material... He and Sam Elliott are top of the heap for ladies "of a certain age".

Hey all! Happy Friday! I'm on my lunch time here at school with just a minute, but I wanted to check in and say hello! I'm not sure what happened last night, but I had yesterday's QOTD quoted and ready to go but I got away from the computer and never came back I guess!

Off to visit DD tonight for a quick overnight and I'll be home tomorrow and will try to check in and post progress before the weekend is over!..........P

Running, running, running, running. I can't believe that this time next week I'll be in Chicago running half marathon #9 of the year :D

Side note: looks like I'll be running 16 through RNR now. The mother in law wants to go to San Antonio, so I get my 16 RNR races in 2016 mission accomplished. Woot woot!

Bonus Questions --- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is a phenomenal movie. Everything from the story to the actors is just top-tier and it's great to see Sean Connery play someone who is so different from his usual James Bond portrayal. The dynamic between Indiana Jones and his father (Connery) is just hilarious that it adds another layer to it... the last 45 minutes of the movie is just Indiana jones at his best. :)

Hi All,

I'm happy to be joining the group. My name is Stephanie, and I am 44. I am from Sterlington, Louisiana. I have a husband of 15 years, two sons who are 5 and 9. I also have a Step-daughter and son-in-law and a grandson that will be 2 in October. I have been a chemist at chemical company near us since 1997. BUT, next week is my last week of work. I am quitting or I guess "retiring" to be able to help more with the kids and help my husband with several businesses that we own. My work hours were very long, about 60 per week, so I had no time for anything mush less losing weight and getting healthy. We are DVC members and travel to WDW a couple of times per year. It's about 850 miles for us.

I have been overweight a really long time, and this past year, it's really gotten worse with me gaining roughly 50 lbs. I have lots of back injury and that contributes but I have to get with a program and stick to it. I started my diet this past Tuesday and the hardest part hasn't been no carbs, it's no DR Pepper. LOL I am on a very low carb diet & high protein.

My goal this month, before July 31 is to lose 9lbs. I know it's a hard goal, but the diet that I am on should make this happen if I don't cheat:)

Thank you for welcoming me to the group and I am so glad to have folks to begin this journey with.

Just curious, with all these half marathons that you are doing, what is your running schedule like during the week? Wondering how many days a week you run and what distances you do in addition to you halfs?

Once work starts up again for me, I'm wondering how much running I should do a week to prepare.

Once work starts up again for me, I'm wondering how much running I should do a week to prepare.

Right now I'm averaging about 1-2 races per month, so in between I'm doing two 5Ks on week days and then a longer run on weekends, about 6 miles.

September is a race every other weekend, so that'll continue the two 5Ks during the week and a longer run on the weekends sans race.

October and November is a race every weekend (!?) and I'll be basically doing nothing in between and recovering/resting.

I'm pacing at about a 3:15 finish time -- the hills are presently doing me in and fatiguing me towards the last 2-3 miles. I'm going to push myself in Montreal for the flat course and see if I can get a sub-3 hour. I almost had it in Seattle but the rain happened late into the second hour and I got claustrophic in the tunnel that wouldn't end. It really slowed me down.

As previously mentioned I'm part way through the couch to 5k programme at the moment which I normally do on the treadmill at the gym. I finished week five this morning which was a bit of a culture shock - from having to run no more than five minutes at a time I suddenly had to do two eight minute runs during the second session of the week and then run for 20 minutes today. I still have no idea how I did it - definitely feeling very proud of myself.

My friends tease me all the time about movies I haven't seen. Ghostbusters is another... and I just saw Jurasic Park last year.

Someday... maybe.

I have only seen Ghostbusters once and don't care to again. I watched it when I was younger (like 7ish) and had nightmares from it. The marshmallow man was going to get me. Since then I can't bring myself to watch it again.

Welcome to the group. It is a great group and a big help!

Seriously. This is a MUST RIDE attraction. :hyper:

Can I share a secret?
I've never done Indiana Jones. Never even considered it. There was just so much other stuff we wanted to do, and we've never been big Indy fans anyway, so ... we just skipped it.
*hangs head in shame*

What fitness activities are you focusing on at the moment to burn calories? Are you running, walking, working out with a personal trainer, shopping, rolling a cart at the grocery store, or ????

Mostly the running. I also try to throw in some cross training, including pilates, barre, and kickboxing, but those bore me a bit more than the running.

Bonus question: which Indiana Jones movie is your favorite and why?
(There's only three, so choose wisely! :P )

Um ... I might have seen one of them at some point in my life, but I don't remember which one. It was probably Raiders of the Lost Ark.

May I join this group? I have started a diet program and love all things Disney!

:welcome:
We're always excited to have new people here!

---

Hey guys! I'm about 15 minutes ahead of schedule, so I actually had a chance to read through! And what I've learned is ... you all need to watch Ghostbusters. It's not my favorite movie ever, but it's definitely a classic.
I am not excited for the new one, though ... as much as I love Melissa McCarthy on TV, I have not liked a single one of her movies. I don't find them at all funny. So I'll probably skip this one and maybe think about watching it when it comes out on TV.

Checking in with an early progress report of 70%.
I know ... what??? I had a few rough moments, but overall it was a good week for me, and I'm hoping that an awesome first week keeps me motivated to behave myself for the rest of the month.

Good Morning Everyone! I can't believe it's Friday - holiday weeks always throw me off. It feels like about Wednesday or Thursday to me. My fitness activity is walking. Walking, walking, walking. What I make up for in not getting my heart rate way up (meaning, not running), is distance. I've been averaging almost 20,000 steps a day - which is about 4 times more than I averaged when I first got my fitbit. That's why it feels like a fitness activity to me. Sometimes I feel guilty (I may have mentioned this before) for not doing more, but then I figure - if it ain't broke. . .

I'm feeling a little sad this morning. My son is at his first sleep away camp and (unlike most camps) he's allowed to contact me by phone and text and he's telling me that he hates the "sleeping away" part. He just turned 11 and I thought he'd be having a blast - like having a sleepover every night. Sigh. I almost wish he couldn't contact me because there's nothing I can do about it.

Weekly Checkin:

Weight loss, a big fat 0. I started the week off strong and thought I had things under control, but quickly fell off the proverbial wagon. Giving it another go starting tomorrow.

Doing something new in the physical activity arena, is right on track. Over the holiday weekend I went to the zoo and got my steps in there and tomorrow morning I'll go down to the beach for a good long walk. I've also started doing push ups and hope to try planking soon. In the privacy of my own home, where no one has to watch.

So overall I'll mark myself at 50%... Hmmm... July is looking a lot like June did.

This weekend is my neighborhoods summer street festival. A really big deal with four central blocks shut down. I take somewhat childish delight in being able to walk in the street, so it's always a fun time.

My current activity is mainly just the elliptical. I get to be inside with the AC and watch TV so I am learning to enjoy it. The only issue is my love bug of a cat who thinks it's ok to try to rub her face against the machine while I am on it. It gives me a heart attack that she is going to get knocked out! She gets to stay and watch until she starts that nonsense-- then she get exiled to the bedroom. Haha!

Bonus: I did have to google to see which one I vividly remember seeing.... which was Temple of Doom. It was years ago but I did enjoy it. The ride is fun too (I didn't have time to ride it in DL but the TDS version is almost exactly the same and the queue inside the pyramid is on point!). I agree it's a must do!

This is one ride I am looking forward to. I can't wait to see it.

Walking my dog is my form of exercise these days. I want to get back into yoga and I have been trying to get some yoga moves done in the evening to relax before bed.

My favorite Indiana Jones is The Last Crusade. I love Sean Connery in it. I think it is the best part of the movie. A local theater is showing it next month and the tickets are free so I really want to go.

Welcome

Today we mowed the lawn at my mother in law's house for the last time(My pedometer was at 8000 by 10am and it would have been more if I had to do one section that only had minor stuff to trim so dh did it with the weedwacker). My mother in law died in Feb and my sister in law is buying the house with her SO. We thought it would take all season for the selling and closing to take place but it will take place on the 18th of this month. Dh said he would cut it until it was sold. He has also spent some time trimming bushes so that the yard is in good shape. I didn't think he should do it since sil and SO live in the house. Dh's logic is that if they had to do the yard work they might not buy the house and then no telling how long it would take to sell. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes well on the 18th.

Have a happy and healthy day

That does sound fun -- head out and get some steps :D

You have one of these too? When I try to step on the Wii Fit and weigh-in, Sawyer thinks it's a great idea that he should stand there too. And then I'm like "why am I 15 pounds gained!?" :P

How's the game of thrones rewatch going?

Saaaaaaaame. Go do it! It's such a fun movie :)
