Thinking about changing from October

We were thinking about a trip to Disney in late October, but after reading trip reports for a couple of days, I am nervous.

Almost everyone that I have read talks about how hot and muggy it is. We have never been there that time of year and were looking forward to the Halloween festivities, but at home we already have snow in October so we are not great with the heat and muggy.

Can someone tell me how the end of April-beginning of May compares? Heat and crowds?

Thanks!!!

Hotter. Muggier.

Average temp in Oct '03: 75.8
Average temp in May '03: 79.8

In late October it will still get into the 80s during the day. May days will frequently exceed 90.

Crowds are hard to tell. Probably a little bit larger in October. Both periods have their own events:

October: Food and Wine Fest
April/May: Flower and Garden Fest

But people also come out for the Halloween festivites in the fall, whereas the April/May period you are looking at is a bit of a lull between Spring Break and Memorial Day.

If your biggest concern is weather, I'd stick with the Fall. Or, if possible, push your trip back another 3 weeks or so. The couple of weeks before Thanksgiving are reportedly VERY slow, and the weather will also be a bit cooler.

I would vote for late April. There is less humidity then even if it's hot. Right now it's just stunning in FL, warm days and cool nights. It usually heats up mid May. Oct. you just never know. I was at WDW the third weekend of Oct. last year and it was a beautiful weekend, no rain mid 80's low humidity. two weeks later, HOT, rainy, muggy!

KLAIT, I see that you are from the UP (I have a co-worker from there). How nice!

My favorite time of year in WDW is October, especially right around Halloween. I was there last year at that time (end of Oct and beginning of Nov), and will be there again this year at that time. I have actually vacationed in WDW at that time more than any other time. I have to agree with Tjkraz, the weather is much better, in my humble opinion. Now, having said that, this year I will also be in WDW at the end of May. Yikes. I know the humidity will kill me (I live on the West Coast and there is no humidity here). I am not looking forward to the weather during my May trip, but I really want to attend the DVC's Members Homecoming events and thus the May trip.

I have a few posts in my trip report about the weather that I experienced last October & November (just "search" the Trip Reports Board for my trip report). I spent that two-week vacation in a wheelchair due to a severe leg injury. I primarily hung out in my resorts' swimming pools (ah! nirvana!). Weather was a big issue for me due to being in a wheelchair. If you read my trip report, you'll learn that there was one day where it rained (I spent it on the Gulf Coast visiting a relative) and another day where it sprinkled for less than an hour (I spent it in the Epcot Theme Park). The rest of the weather was glorious and the humidity was mild to non-existent. That has primarily been the weather for almost all of my October trips.

We've gone in May and Oct - it was HOT all three trips! My nexty trip is December :) We'll see how that goes!! (We have fun no matter what, though...)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I am still not sure what we should do.

SnoWhiteRabbit-We have always gone the day after Thanksgiving for 10 days into December and it is soooo beautiful. Great weather for parks and the decorations are gorgeous. There are really no crowds or waits for anything...It is my favorite time to go, but my husband told me he would like to go when it is warm enough to do a waterpark and enjoy the pool.

Janet2k-Where in the UP? You don't often run across people who even know where it is much less anyone who knows someone from here.

CPM-The humidity part is what I am most concerned with as well. Thanks for the info.

tjkraz-Thaks for the advice...the crown info is the second biggest concern.

Thanks Again everyone!

Went last week in OCt-- first week Nov last year. It would be slightly cool at night (sometimes a need for a sweatshirt), but the days were so thick w/ humidity. However, I love to go to Florida for the heat and humidity so I'm not complaining.
