Theft at hotel

It's back. We already had everything cancelled last night. My step brother used it a lot. It's my step moms. So went to office. The new story was that housekeeping found it. This is after being told the guy who checked us inbound it and it was in the safe all day The manager said no one ever called him to ask if he found it. Ummmmm right. He said people blame them all the time and have the police out here. I'm glad it's back. But they are all lying.

I also told them who our friends/witness were. Well last night they got back from park and none of their Keyes worked. Not a coincidence

That's because they dont want bad publicity, especially being around Disneyland. They will tell you anything to cover their own butt. This is just unfortunate. But at least it's back.

You know they have an app for that! Actually its a feature called "Find my iPad" or "Find my iPhone". You can pull it up from any web connected computer and see exactly where it is. Also you can make the iPad make a beacon like sound for 2 minutes and display a message like "give me back my iPad u fool". Also you can remotely wipe all the data from the iPad as well...

Wow!!! That's really cool.

:scared1: Wow I am shocked again!!! Some people just don't have a conscious do they?? What scared me about that situation is that it must not just be one employee who's a bit shady, but more than one staff member is partaking in this activity!! Is there anyway to report this type of stuff? I know a lot of it can't be proven but there has to be at least a web site or something to warn off other visitors and maybe it will hurt their business. I am a strong believer in Karma! :)
Make sure to write a report about this on TripAdvisor at least.

I hope things turn around for the better for the remainder of your trip! :wizard:

Agreed. It's all too shady. Definitely go to Trip Advisor. I did. There really isnt anything wrong in letting people know what happened to you.

Wow! Glad you got your ipad back!!! That is very scary!!

I NEVER thought about locking my stuff up..ever! That kinda scares me , that I didnt even think about the hotel stealing my stuff :confused3 Man, im clueless when it comes to that kind of stuff.. Guess everyone isnt as honest as I am ...

I for one, will be buying the lock for our suitcase. Ive thought about it before, but since we drive places and dont fly, didnt really think we needed it LOL..boy was I wrong!

Write about it on Tripadviser, please. People need to know about this

Glad it "reappeared" OP. I have stayed there before. One of the reasons I like Desert Inn is the availability of HUGE lockers. We were able to fit 3 carryons and a duffel bag easily in one locker. The locker rental only cost 75 cents!

I hate leaving bags behind a desk. Desert Inn does ask for it's guests to use the lockers. They are supposed to only take stuff that will not fit.

Just an FYI to future guests.

Also, just take expensive items to the Disney lockers. They are more expensive, but I'm sure are less a security risk.

I'm glad you got your iPad back!! I hope the remainder of your stay is uneventful.
I've never worried about this, we never had anything valuable to take on vacation, no laptops, we always had our phones, camera and money on us....but we generally leave the DND sign on the door while we are in a hotel, we only have housekeeping come in every 2-3 days.....that said every hotel we've stayed at (except a really crappy one in NV) has had a safe, did your room not have one? If I was worried about valuables I would definitely lock them up.....

There are room safes at Desert Inn. We always use them, even for prescriptions, kid games, etc.

I've had medication stolen before. The best advice is to keep expensive things home.

After all the heartbreaking posts on the boards from ladies who lost heirloom jewerly or wedding rings, I NEVER bring anything expensive. I even leave my wedding set at home. So many threads from ladies who lost their diamonds from hitting rails in queues, or while swimming, etc. Now I have some fun costume Disney pieces that I wear.

I even have a cheap, pay as you go phone for vacations. That way I never worry about losing expensive items. Even hotels that say they have WIFI, might not have good reception in your room anyway. And most hotels have business centers/computers to check-in and print out your boarding passes.

Guess, I'm a worrier, but it's nice to travel "light". Isn't part of a vacation getting away from it all anyway?

I should have added....

my little pay as you go phone is great for cutting out all the people who you don't need to be in contact with during vacation. I give the number to my neighbor, the pet boarding place, and family only. That way we don't have constant interruptions. That's what our home voicemail is for.

It's just another perk of getting away from it all!

I never thought about doing this. :thumbsup2 Good call! (excuse the pun)

Thanks for telling us all. This is truly amazing. I would want to view the tapes. I will be much more careful now.:tink:

I know many people like to take their iphones to the park to take pictures or check wait times. The problem is they are not very sturdy. And forget taking them on water rides!

I purchased a nice, moderate Fiji waterproof, shockproof camera. I think it was less than $100. I've taken fantastic underwater pictures with it. I now take it to Disney with good results. I just pop it in a pocket and go. I don't have to worry it will get wet and the thing is indestructible.

About wait time apps, I've found that while they are fun, they don't really give you vital information. I think when Disney finally puts out a quality real time app it will be worth carrying around a phone. The apps that are available now are guest driven, so they are often not as accurate.

Just another alternative to bringing expensive items.

I bring my iPhone with me to the parks. I dont mind shoving it down my shirt or tucking it into my pants on water rides. The apps are helpful, but I find that when I am in the parks I am too wrapped up in doing things with my friends and family to whip out my phone and play with apps. Especially when everyone wants to do something different. The only time I think I have used it, is if we are sitting in say DCA having a drink and relaxing for a few minutes and someone suggests going on Splash Mountain. I will pull out my phone and see how long the wait is so we dont have to walk all that way. The wait times have been pretty accurate, so its been sort of useful. But if I never brought my phone with me to the parks... I wouldnt cry over it.

I brought my phone (not iphone, windows phone) to the parks. It helped when my family split up for rides to find each other. I just brought a zip lock baggie to put it in for water rides. Wasn't a problem!

Yeah we carry empty normal sized shopping bags with us for rides like the "Grizzly River Run". Good to put a video camera, regular cameras, phones, and jackets in. There were a few times where we shared a raft with 2 other people who were worried, and they were thankful we had backup for them too. Plastic bags take up no room what so ever.

I'm glad the original poster got their ipad back, and think it's disgusting how the hotel is acting about it.

I hope the op posts about her experience on tripadvisor. I know I, and a lot of others, really use those reviews to help plan their trips.

When I get home I will post on trip advisor. We had a great lunch at house of blues and my dd competes this afternoon.

We have a Disney cruise next week. I am totally rethinking what I am taking. Since non Disney people wil be loading the boat. We brouhht the iPad for the plane and my dd to use. I have an iPhone Never thought of someone in the hotel taking our stuff

I'm glad you got your iPod back, but I also have to wonder why you didn't use the lockers that they have available?

We just checked out of the Desert Inn yesterday and, while we had our own, different issues, the manager made it right and I would stay there again.

As for posting on TripAdviser, may I suggest that you also post HERE on DISBoards on the thread that is all about hotels/motels in the area? If you need the link, let me know and I will grab it for you.

As for your Disney cruise, we were on the Wonder in November and had a safe in our cabin. We put the ipad and camera in there, along with our passports. When we needed any of the above, it came out, otherwise, stayed tucked away in the safe the entire cruise.

Great amenity. Use it. Just make sure to remember to empty it when you leave the ship. :goodvibes
