The World of Wogging.

Hey Woggers -

Managed to sneak a quick run in yesterday evening after doing mega grocery shopping at the Super Walmart. Had 20 mins to spare before Ds's soccer practice ended, so around the parking lot I circled. Still haven't had time to get new shoes and really need them.

Happy Hump Day! Better yet - Happy two people going home on American Idol tonight (oops wrong thread!)

Good for you for making the time! Woo Hoo!

I was suppose to run today and felt kind of yucky last night before bed...well, woke up this a.m with a killer sinus infection, again! It's only been like 5 day since I came off antibiotics from the last one!:sad2: Getting a little nervous about not being able to run this week....my race is coming up quickly!!!!:scared1:

Don't worry too much. If you end up needing to do more of a run/walk combo there is nothing wrong with that. The best part is that your starting and doing the best you can. I've been reading John Bingham's books (and highly recomend them - they had me in tears a few times, very inspirational) and he says that it's the courage you have to start that's all the difference.

Sigh. I still haven't been doing anything this week. I need to get into a routine and get motivated but I just don't know HOW to motivate myself. :sad2:

How about thinking about wogging that race like this -
icon_queen.gif
and coming home with some pretty princess bling.

Seriously though, once you do it a few times you'll be amazed at how much better you feel. I'm truly a self avowed exercise hater, and I'm amazed at how much I'm begining to enjoy myself. I'm hating it while I'm doing it, but I feel so much better once I'm done. So much healthier.

How about trying a little less? As soon as you get home from work go out for a walk. Even if it's only about 10 minutes or so and build from there, maybe get Marc to go with you. Just think baby steps. (And I just had a flash of Bill Murray in What About Bob? as I typed that - I love that movie). I wish you were closer, because I keep wishing I had a bit of company as I'm doing this. :)

I think my problem is that I haven't been able to exercise as long as I want and that I need to take smaller steps to build myself up. I just need to get out there and do ANYTHING. I know I will feel better and I know it's a good thing to do for my health. I just need to do it. I need to get myself into a routine. I have nothing planned this weekend so I will get some walking done. If I don't, please someone come and slap me. :lmao:

No slapping necessary...yet! :rotfl:

I've started trying to get some extra movement in daily too. I've been trying to park my car a little further away from buildings when I run out to the store, and trying to avoid short cuts. I know it's not much, but I'm feeling much less lazy by doing it. The only thing I can't handle yet is lots of steps.

I tried one morning to take the steps instead of the escalator from the lower level of Grand Central to the main level. I'm not sure how many flights it's considered since they are in one straight line, but I think I'd guess it to be about 3 or 4. Definitely more than just one. Halfway up I wanted someome to shoot me and put me out of my misery. I should have probably rested a bit, but I'm stubborn and forced myself to continue up so I wouldn't be embarrased. By the time I reached the top I was having an asthma attack, which triggered future asthma attacks for the next week or so. I haven't taken those steps again. I actually live on the second floor of a building with no elevator and never have a problem doing the 2 flights I have to climb to do laundry. Those steps at Grand Central just kill me though!

That's EXACTLY it LL!! Anything is better than nothing! When I looked at that couch to 5K online, I thought it was pretty ambitious for someone like myself. There is NO WAY I am going to be able to start out with running, and even 30 minutes of walking is a high goal for someone who hasn't done anything in years.

If you U had Wings is right, once you get started, you begin to feel better and it becomes easier. I too HATE exercising, it is not fun for me BUT I always feel better after having done it and within a week or two, you start feeling a difference and you can increase what you are doing.

YOU CAN DO THIS LL!!!!!

Stairs can be a serious killer! We live on the 3rd floor now and the first couple of times were not fun and now it's barely nothing! :thumbsup2

I know you are all right! I have plans tonight but will do something this weekend and I will formulate a plan for the work week and post it here so you can all keep me on task. :thumbsup2

This is what happens with any type of exercise. I think you just started off too ambitious and now you do not want to put yourself through any pain. I think you should start out with a 3 - 4 X week walking plan. Perhaps just walk 15 mins the first week, then gradually increase it.

Look at it this way - it is still 28days before your trip. You can still get 10 - 12 good walks in before you go. Don't even think about the Princess run yet. Think about getting in shape for the parks for this visit. You will notice the difference.

On a different note - I did run yesterday 2 3/4 miles. I realized that I used to run 3 miles all the time, but I gradually wittled it away to 2 miles, so I'm trying to step it up a notch. This thread is helping me push harder. That's what its all about. Everybody starts with their current fitness level and pushes to go a bit more.

A do have a bit of a story for everyone regarding the purchase of my new sneakers, but I have to come back later and post it. Let's just say, it was not one of my better shopping trips! :sad2:

I'm sad to report that I only got 2 workouts in this week. Life just got in the way. Well actually work got in the way. I had to work late a couple of nights which ate up my gym time. DH have such conflicting schedules that I can't just go whenever I want.

I have to come up with a game plan for next week. I'm on vacation since my day care is closed. I need to figure out if I want to drive to my office building to go to the gym. I know I SHOULD but I don't want to see the place for a week! :rotfl2:

I went out for a run yesterday. When I took a look at my Nike+ graph when I uploaded it I was surprised to see that there was no difference between my walking speed and my jogging speed. My workout graph was one straight line. :rotfl: Boy does that make me feel slow! Or I can look at my thinking I'm a speedy walker.

I averaged about 14:30 minutes per mile. I know that's not fast, but as my goal was to be under 16 minutes I'm happy.

So that is great - keep in up! Who cares how slow you are now, you will only get faster! :thumbsup2

Thursday night I stopped at the Kohl's in Dover while my son was at soccer practice. This store is about 1/2 hour from my house and I was stuck in Dover till about 7:30pm. I know that Kohl's often carried the Asics 1140, which is a pretty decent running shoe. I found a pair in my size and they were $75 on sale. I thought that it was a good time to buy, especially since I could get the $10 Kohl's cash.

So - I take all the packing out of the left shoe, stick my foot in, and OOOWWWHHHHHH! :scared1:What the Heck??????? I stepped on the pointy end of a security tag. The freak'n tack went into my heel - all 1/2 inch of in. :scared1: Another shopper came over to ask me if I was OK when he heard me scream!

Needless to say, I was a bit upset. So I went to the office to tell them what had happened. They filled out an incident report and I tried to clean my foot in the bathroom, since I couldn't go straight home. I already had a tetanus shot last summer, so I didn't need that. :sad2:

Anyway, my heel is not nearly as sore as I thought it would be and Kohl's is sending me a gift certificate for the price of the shoes (which I never did purchase, because I was too upset about not being able to clean my foot properly). And I think I will be OK to run today.

Happy Beautiful Spring Weekend Everyone! :woohoo:

Yikes, MEK, that is NOT a good shopping experience! :scared: Hope your foot feels better! By the way, I really like what you said about starting at your fitness level and pushing to go a little bit more. This thread is inspiring me too! :goodvibes

If U Had Wings - what is the Nike + graph? That sounds kinda cool! :thumbsup2

Happy wogging everyone!!

Oh, MEK! That is so scary about your foot! How is it feeling now?

So I went for a very short walk on Friday. Then I went for another one today. I just went around my complex but I feel good that I did something.

I'm going to commit to walking 4 more times by Saturday. I think I will wake up tomorrow and go before work. :thumbsup2

Christine & LL -

My foot is fine. I will admit, I did get a little freaky about it cause I stepped on a nail last summer (went through my crocs) and my foot hurt like h__l. I thought this experience might be similar, but I think it was a lot less painful because it went into my heel instead of the ball of my foot.

I was even able to run yesterday and I finally got my new shoes, but not at Kohl's. I am going to save the Kohl's gift card for something else. I went to a running/shoe store in Rehobeth Beach. I was able to get a better pair of Asics for about $5 more than the 1140's at Kohl and they feel a lot better. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to use them yet. It is about a gazillion degrees out today (90 - I think) and I have been doing stuff all day. I am just too lazy to go out now and run in this weather. Hopefully I will break them in tomorrow!

LL - I'm so glad you started walking. I know you will stick with it and soon be walking circles around the rest of us!

Thanks! I need all the encouragement I can get. :rotfl2:

I am glad that your foot is fine! I would have been so freaked out if that happened to me!

Owwwww! I think I screamed along with you when I read that. Hope it's feeling better soon.

Happy wogging everyone!!

I have a Nike+ sensor that monitors and records all my workouts. If you wear Nike+ shoes there is a spot they fit right into the shoes. I wear Asics though so I had to buy a little pouch that attaches to my shoelaces to wear it in. I love that I know exactly how far I've gone and how long it took me. Then I upload it all to Nike and it has little graphs.

I went out for my W1D2 run today and did horribly. I made it through the entire scheduled workout, but was gasping for air at the end. I don't know why it was so much worse today, but my prior two workouts I didn't feel nearly as bad.

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I've been thinking about how to create a hot topic for this week's mixer question. Turns out, the weather cooperated with me. :lmao:

Many areas of the country experienced above average temperatures this weekend, which made many of our weekend distances uncomfortable. (I was thinking especially of how the weather affected the racers at CMM, particularly our very special WISHers). So this week's mixer topic, which starts here on the 'Ohana thread:

What are your training/racing/recovery tips and strategies for hot-weather conditions?

Feel free to tell us how you alter your routines: when you go out, what gear you use or what you wear, how you hydrate and fuel differently, how to recognize danger signs, how you keep cool and/or recover from overheating, and when you decide to shorten/quit/take it inside.

As we all know, going out in the heat can be dangerous, so please help all of us by sharing your knowledge. :thumbsup2

WOW...hope you're okay!! :headache:

Thanks! (Sorry for haven't to make two separate posts, but this stupid work computer will not handle any more than the simplest commands without freezing up!)

I did end up breaking in my new shoes Sunday night. They were pretty comfy, but with the heat my feet felt so swollen. Looking forward to my next run!

I went for a walk last night. It nearly killed me. I was in the right mindset and everything but my lower back was killing me. I hurt my lower back about 5 years ago at work and it hurts me occasionally. It was brutal last night. I thought I was going to have to sit down on the ground but I mustered through.

I am taking tonight off from walking. I was really discouraged when I got home. I know I went to Disney 7 months ago, but I don't feel like I was this out of shape. Bah! I'm going to keep going though, I keep telling myself that it's better to do this at home then down at Disney.
