The Woman Report- Update 4/24 Final Thoughts p. 74

I hope all is well Traci.

In brief: Nova's vision is +6.25 in her left eye! She was probably born like that.
Can't believe we didn't notice this! I feel like a bad Mommy. :sad1:
More than likely this can't be fixed much. I've just be down and out.

I remember that 'bad Mommy' feeling. We didn't know my daughter had vision problems either. After a few specialist visits, we found out she had several eye conditions, probably at birth, and there wasn't much they could do to help her right eye improve. Many people think since she wears glasses that she can see very well, so we make sure to let her teachers know. Keep your chin up...you're a good Mom!

She also forgot to mention about the chairs:

I DID clear off space for all of us by tossing towels that were lying on chairs over to the side. If people want to save a spot, they need more than a pool towel. you have to have shoes and backpacks and such. Dats da rule! ::yes::

I agree wit da rule! That stuff bugs me!!

I'm just as happy skipping Kali and any ride like it now b/c that's the wettest and ugliest I've ever been in the parks! DH offered me his baseball cap afterwards!

I'm happpy to skip Kali too-I hate getting soaked and having to walk around wet all day-I never seem to dry out...

so the lifeguards were happy that day. :)

:lmao: Yeah, they probably got a good laugh and thought, "Gee, I hope I never look like that when I get old!"

I'm glad she was able to go back to having fun. One great thing about kids - you're probably still steaming about it when you think of it (I would be, too) - but kids seem to be able to brush that stuff off most of the time. I know when I butt heads with one of mine, I'll have a "bad" feeling for hours and he forgets it in seconds.

You're absolutely right!

I agree you should have complained to a manager! How dare they correct a child when her parents are right there watching her and she is doing nothing wrong!!! Where is the Disney love? You go Buzz for putting them in their places!:cool1:

I just didn't think she was doing anything that bad. She was just going on the slide...

I've had a small crisis going on around here, so I haven't been on much this week. But now I'm caught up.

First off, the pics that weren't supposed to make it on here: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think the lifeguards are trained with the fear of lawsuits. So, some of them will be more protective of certain things than others. Maybe the Chick guard was in charge that day. :confused3

Aw, geez, you're a good mommy!! Sometimes things just happen. I had the bad mommy feeling too when Trey was 4. We'd been taking him to all kinds of doctors (you can imagine). We'd seen everyone in our town and were seeing one from North Dakota that came to our town once a month. She said his tonsils were bigger than golf balls and his adenoids probably were too. And that they had been that way since birth. For 4 years, that little guy suffered and we had no clue.

I asked to see them when they took them out (I know I"m gross that way) and they were huge!! The ENT said they were so big, they were pushing on each other in his mouth, creating a teeny little space in which to get food through. She was amazed he hadn't choked to death and if we hadn't had them taken out, he would have eventually.

The tonsils also held his tongue down in the back so he couldn't move his tongue correctly and it caused him to be a mouth breather so all the muscles and nerves in the front of his mouth were severely weakened, also contributing to his inability to speak.

Fluid built up in his ears made him not hear correctly, although he passed hearing tests, but he couldn't hear language correctly so he couldn't speak it correctly. And lastly, it was starting to give him what they call "adenoid facies," where the teeth and upper part of the mouth protrude, mishaping his mouth and causing him to need braces. He still has a slight overbite from it, but the doctor said we saved him from probably needing major orthodontia work.

Oh yeah and the tonsils and adenoids cut off oxygen to his extremities so he wasn't getting proper amounts of oxygen to his fingers which caused fine motor problems and made them clubbed on the ends.

:headache: All from oversized tonsils and adenoids. Who knew!! I felt so horrible that he suffered from so long. He snored at night and though he slept through the night, he never got a restorative sleep until they were removed.

Whenver I hear kids having speech problems, I mention to the parents have you had their tonsils checked? I helped 3 kids so far, hopefully, avoid what Trey went through....

Oh Linnie you must have been a mess! I guess its just the things parents go thru. I totally need to get over myself and work on saving what we can.
At least her hair piece is being made. In about 6 weeks it will be done.

The doctor told me after his tonsils were out, we'd see a different kid. Right away I noticed he could put his lips together and make sounds from the front of his mouth that he couldn't before like "b" "P" and "m". He gets lazy now and I have to remind him to put his lips together to say things like "bye bye." Or else he'll say "dye dye." It's easier for him I guess. I keep after him though. Slave driving mama that I am! :thumbsup2

I was always so driven where Trey was concened that I didn't allow myself much time to think about it. Sounds odd but I just was dead set on finding out exactly what was wrong with him. I only cried one time and it was because I was imagining how it would be to be Trey and feel scared and vulnerable at school, relying on other people to help him when he can't understand what they're saying to him and they can't understand what he's saying to them.

Oddly enough, the very next morning after I broke down, my dad passed away. So I'm not entirely sure it was Trey that was making me sad. I had no idea my dad was going to die the next day, but it was so odd that the night before was the one and only time I'd ever cried about Trey. :confused3

I swear I was on the internet ALL the time trying to get help in those early years. I don't think it's entirely the tonsils and adenoids-I think he would've struggled anyway, but they definitely did not help and I really think they made the problem worse. He might not have struggled as hard as he is. Hindsight is always 20/20. His little clubbed fingers remind me of that difficult time. It was pretty hard and frustrating. Life is easier now. :goodvibes

Six weeks will go by fast! I'd love to see pictures of her hair piece when it'd done! :cloud9: It's gonna be great!! And again, you're a good mommy!!

I will be posting pics of Nova's new hair for sure. It will be in my sig.
I feel better about her vision now because we are actually patching the good eye 2 hrs a day. Now its about recovery. :thumbsup2 See how far we can go. Thanks Linnie, you're so sweet.

Hi Linnie!
I finally found you way over here:cool1:
I am only on page 1 but by tomorrow I will be caught up.
I lived on the west coast of Canada for 7 years and wanted to go to DL badly(it would have been a 14hour drive via Seattle and thru Oregon but it never happened.) We did get to go to WDW when we moved to East coast and DD was 10 :cool1: so I am content for now and live vicariously through others TRs.
I look forward to reading more.:lovestruc

UGH - I bet you miss the West coast after the horrible winter we've had this year :headache:

Linnie ~ JoJo had to have her tonsils taken out for the same reason (too large) and I'm sorry we didn't have the adenoids removed too :guilty:

Can we have Buzz travel with the non confrontive Asians(namely my family)?;)

They really should've talked to the parents if they were at all concerned...something like this would've been appropriate:

Lifeguard: " can you introduce me to your parents?"

La: "Sure"

Lifeguard to LtP or Buzz: " We noticed that your daughter may be getting tired going down the slide. We wouldn't want an unfortunate accident to happen. Would it be possible for one of you to slide with her or wait at the bottom of the slide for her just in case."

How hard would that have been to do.

They would've needed people skills and good judgment to do that...

Welcome aboard!!! :goodvibes

That's a long drive, but I bet it would've been pretty.

Buzz showed me his new hat from Canada yesterday. I'd never seen it before and I asked him, "When did you go to Canada?" He meant the Canada in Epcot. :headache: I forgot about that Canada.

We used to drive to DL when the kids were little, but I don't think they'd enjoy that anymore. They like to get there quick.

Linnie ~ JoJo had to have her tonsils taken out for the same reason (too large) and I'm sorry we didn't have the adenoids removed too :guilty:

Our doctor that discovered the tonsils was a pediatric developmental specialist. She actually has a high form of autism herself and is like a savant when it comes to diagnosing kids. She was really interesting.

Our ENT told us that if the tonsils were over sized-the adenoids would be too. Otherwise we wouldn't have known to have that done.

Can we have Buzz travel with the non confrontive Asians(namely my family)?;)

How hard would that have been to do.

It would've been easy, but they wouldn't let people wait at the bottom of the slide. I tried with Trey and got in trouble.

If you want Buzz to travel with you and your family, you got him!! He'd love that!!

They would've needed people skills and good judgment to do that...

:thumbsup2 Yup!

Buzz has been in touch with our sitter for the night and isn’t to sure about her. Not that she wouldn’t be safe, but she’s very low –key on the phone and isn’t very animated sounded. Sounds almost bored, he said. Not too thrilled with the job. He doesn’t know if the kids will like her, which makes me nervous. He assures me if we don’t like her, we’ll come back early and cancel our 2nd night out. That makes me feel slightly better.

She arrives and Buzz is right on. She doesn’t seem too excited to be there. The ones in Florida are always nice and friendly and seem eager to play with the kids. This gal starts in by griping about the election and how much news coverage it’s getting. And griping that she couldn’t find our room and how far of a walk it is. Gee, next time, I’ll speak to the news networks and tell them to stop covering history making events and ask the Disney staff to put us in a room for her convenience. I say nothing though. She continues on griping and we nod sympathetically. :rolleyes1

We finally get a word in to tell her about Trey, tell her not to put the kids to bed-we’d be back in time for that- and we head out. We go to the hotel bar and get some drinks when I remind Buzz that he needs to go get the $150 gift certificate we forgot to get when we checked in. Earlier, they’d called our room and reminded us. Of course, he wants me to do it. I didn’t feel like it, so I give him the song and dance about how it’s in his name and it needs to be him getting it. He buys my line of bull and goes to get it. I find a nice place to sit and sip my wine. The bar is beautiful and I’m just happy. :cloud9:

Buzz comes back with the gift certificate and happily announces we can use it to buy supplies like snacks and stuff. Uh, or I can use it for shopping. We decide to use it for both. Compromise. :thumbsup2

Before too long, it’s time to go to Steakhouse 55. We walk across the street where I encounter the topiary Mickey. I puckered up and planted one right on his prickly face. :upsidedow

We get to the restaurant and were immediately seated. It’s a nice place, but a little fancy for us. We order a crab cake for an appetizer and a bottle of wine. Buzz and I aren’t really fancy people so it’s a little bit not our style, but what the heck. The crab cake was good. Pretty soon this other family comes and sits across from us. They look super tired. They’ve got 5 kids with them and the younger one (about 2) is knocking over glasses, breaking them and shrieking at the top of her lungs. The parents are exasperated. We’re amused. :) They need a good glass of wine!! The meal was great, ambience a little pretentious, but very nice.

I had a steak (I’m so predictable), which was excellent! Buzz had something. I can’t remember. I love rib eye steaks with fat on them. I know it’s gross, but I love the fat! Best part of the steak. I’ll say it for everyone, “Eeeeuuuwww!!” I love it though.

On our way back we walked through Downtown Disney. We walked along and chatted with a DVC CM, asking questions about buying into the DVC in CA. We were seriously thinking about it. One more encounter with the lifeguards the next day changed my mind though. :confused3

It was pretty early and we weren’t quite ready to go back yet. We stopped for a glass of wine in the hotel bar and Buzz found this great outdoor fireplace. It was so nice to sit outside with a fire, sipping wine. Very relaxing and romantic. Before too long, we were joined by a gal about our age who’d came out to smoke. She was hilarious-talking a mile a minute. Then another couple came out-the guy wanted to smoke a cigar.

We chatted with these folks for a bit. I started to get tired and am feeling ready to go upstairs.

Buzz has to use the bathroom and after he gets out of sight, I hear this obnoxious Tarzan-like yell. :sad2: I know it’s Buzz but I pretend like it’s not. The smoker lady says, “That sounds like your's.” Good grief. I know it is. I still pretend it might not be. Buzz comes back and asks if people heard that drunk guy yelling!:lmao: They all say they thought it was him and he actually convinces them it wasn’t! We visited with them for awhile more and then hit the gift shop.

Thanks to Goof, the kids have tons of pins to get started on their pin trading! Thank you!! :thumbsup2 We got a few new ones for ourselves and bought lanyards. We’re official pin traders now!

We go back up to the room, pay the sitter, send her packing and settle in for bed. I’d gotten LA a bag of gummy bears. She loves those. She and Trey were more interested in the chips, however, and because I’m watching what I eat due to my extremely sensitive G.I. system, I only eat a few bears. We chat and laugh about the day and next thing I know I’d eaten the WHOLE bag of gummy bears. I haven’t had that many carbs for nearly a year! I felt so guilty!! :guilty: But they were worth it! Poor LA didn’t get any. I hid the empty bag so she wouldn’t know I ate them all. :sad2:

So tonight we swapped kids. I get to sleep with the Human Heat Machine and Buzz gets Pointy, Sharp Girl. I read for a little then fell asleep.

Next up: We Hit Disneyland, need I say more!! :cheer2:

So, did the kids have fun with the sitter? I know that sometimes a sitter will act differently with us than with the kids. I know that some of the girls we use don't act very excited, but the girls absolutely love them.

Gosh, wonder WHOOOOOOO that drunk guy was?

That sounds like yours....was she a DISer? :lmao: :lmao:
