The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

We just got back from our stay at WL on Saturday.
We stayed in room 1165, which was first floor, mere steps from the pool. We had a free upgrade from woods view to courtyard view.

I'm wondering about this. I just got back today from our trip Aug 21-26. Upon checkin we were told our room had a solid balcony, not one you can see if you are sitting down. But she also said it was on the 6th floor. I reserved and prepaid for a woodsview room. Well we get to our room, 6049, and it turns out to have a real balcony plus it overlooked the silver creek falls and the pool. It was a lovely view. Did I get a free upgrade? I'm not sure. I think maybe the WL database has some holes in it.
:confused3

We are staying at WL again in September, but have a courtyard view booked.

Can anyone suggest a good room to request. I like a high room, so no ground levels need apply.

Of course, we hope for an upgrade, but I know that isn't likely.

I just got back today. we were given room 6049 on the 6th floor which overlooks the silver creek falls. You have the constant sound of water running which is nice at first, but by day 5 it was getting loud. But I have to say the view was fabulous. We were able to see the water parade from our room. We loved seeing the ducks swimming in the pool. And when you shut the glass door it is completely quiet (except for the neighbors who flushed the toilet alot.):lmao:

My wife and I just booked our vacation for 8 days/7 nights December 12-19, 2009 this afternoon. We're extremely excited about the trip as it will be our daughter's first trip to Disney World (she'll be 4 when we make the trip). princess:

Any pointers or tips about the WL that we should definitely know about?

We booked at standard view room and we got the dining plan free with our reservation. Is it worth requesting a specific area for our "standard view" room? What are our chances of getting any kind of upgrade upon check-in?

My wife has only been to Disney 2 times previously while I have been over 20 times, however this will be our first time staying at Wilderness Lodge. We're especially looking forward to the Christmas decorations around the Disney property, especially at the lodge. Any recommendations or tips from people who have been during this time before?

Thanks!
Matt

We have not done this yet, but you can request to be the Flag familly and if selected, be sure to take your camera / video recorder, because you get to go up on top of the WL (AWESOME VIEW) and assist with the raising of the flags.:thumbsup2 Only thing is, you will not make a park openeing on that day.

Does the WL do anything extra special for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years? Just wondering if maybe we should plan our trip around being back at the lodge during the evening hours. Any advice would be welcome.:thumbsup2

From allears:
On Christmas Eve, during past stays at the Wilderness Lodge, strolling carolers, a brass band, and three country singers playing guitars along with Disney characters and Santa all made for an exciting Christmas Eve. You will never get homesick on Christmas Eve there.

We are staying at WL for the first time in december and I have a room question.

We are a family of 5 me, hubby, 2 girls 9 and 6 and a two year old little guy.

This is probably the one and only time we get to stay as soon our family will be too big for the normal guest rooms.

Anyway are the rooms with two queens the same size as the bunk bed rooms? and what size are the bunk beds are they twin size?

Its just that we have the crib in the room and I thought that maybe with the bunkbeds there might be more floor space in the room.

But, on the other hand the two year old hasnt slept in a crib since he turned 2 and will probably sleep in a bed with someone anyway so maybe the two queens would give us more sleeping space.

This will be our first stay at WL but we have eaten there in December when the decs were up and it's just beautiful. We will be arriving on 5th Jan will the decs still be up!

We've had pancakes with bacon, platter with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and biscuits, a breakfast croissant(egg, bacon, & cheese), muffins, cinnamon rolls, and donuts. They also have fruit, cereal, and yogurt.

The rooms are the same size and the bunk beds are twin size.

Having a bunk bed room gives you a little more floor space. The bunk bed is centered where the queen bed would be. This gives you some space between the bunk bed and the wall for some storage.

Either room you go with is going to be a bit tight with a crib and 5 people.

I would suggest requesting a room off the lobby. This way it is easy for you or your hubby to walk outside the room while others are getting dressed...etc. There are a lot of nice seating areas on various floors of the lodge overlooking the lobby.

We just returned from WL yesterday and had a great stay. Our room # 6044 was a standard room, but had a terrific view of the MK fire works and the Contemporary Resort. The only draw-back was an occasional beeping sound from delivery trucks. The resort was packed and lines at roaring fork were present for most of the day. The pool was also more crowded than usual during late August. While the WL was at capacity, the resort never lost that feeling of relaxation. My family had a wonderful stay and we look forward to our return in the future.

Cool - thanks so much for posting that! I'm getting so excited to go I can't hardly stand it - I am way worse than my kids :woohoo:

We just got back from the WL on wednesday after staying there for 5 nights. We had room 6049. This room faced the silver creek falls which was just lovely. I figured all the rooms on the other side of the hallway must have had a great view of the fireworks because we would stand at the windows with the shutters to see them. I only wished I could hear the music.
Yes, those lines at the Roaring Fork were tight for lunch and dinner but I found breakast to be good. And the pool was packed on Sunday. I thought the place was magnificent. I loved that music they played in the lobby.
I figure we just might return there again on our next visit. My children loved loved the cub's den.

Yep, we were certainly neighbors. We spent eight terrific days at the Lodge. My daughter and I spent most of our evenings relaxing by the fourth floor fire place. I wish that I were there right now.

Hi everyone! We are only 13 days away from our first trip to WL, our first trip to Disney World actually. I am literally jumping with joy and cannot wait to get there. I do have a couple questions if anyone could help out.

I am a little nervous about transportation since this is my first time using it. My questions about that are:
*We have alot of early morning ADR's for Character Breakfasts how early do the buses start and how long should we leave in advance.
We have: CP-8:05, H&V-8:20, Akershus-8:30, 1900 Park Fare-8:05, CM-8:10

The only transportation I am sure of is taking the boat to the CR for CM! How do I get to the GF that early? Do they have special buses for the early character meals? Do I need to take the bus to get the MK that early or will a boat ride be just a fast? How long should I give to get there?

*We are going to DD one day and have an ADR at 3:30 at Planet Hollywood. Does a bus run to DD that early or do we need to go to the TTC? Where should we get off the bus? Do they tell you?

Can you tell I am stressin' over the transportaion? I am easy peazy over everything else. LOL

*Last but not least what time does the pool close at night. I know DS and DH will want to get a night time swim in. They are FISH!!!!!!

Thank you sooooo much in advance!!!!

I can answer the morning transportation issue:
If I were you, I'd take a cab for every breakfast except CM. You're right to stress over transportation for the early breakfasts because it can be hard to arrive on time. The cost will only add about $30 to your trip because you can always take the bus back to the resort.

The only problem with that is that we aren't bringing a car seat for Lorelai and I have heard it is hit and miss with cabs and car seats.

When do they start running the buses at the WL for MK? Because it is definitely the fastest method of transportation - literally five minutes and you are dropped off right by the entrance. Definitely faster than taking a cab, which would only get you to the TTC. I'm talking about the CP breakfast here.
