Does anyone know why the mantel about the 23fireplace in VML is not level? I am sure there is a story there. Thanks.

Hi! I've really been enjoying all the great posts about the Wilderness Lodge here. I have my first stay there booked for next December. Normally I stay at POFQ, which I love, but next year I wanted to try something new for my first solo trip. I'm doing a split stay, the first 3 nights at POP and then 4 nights at WL. I'm not overly enthused about the POP nights, but it's the only way I could finangle a deluxe stay traveling alone.

I've gone back through most of the thread here, and didn't see the answer to my question but I apologize if it's already been answered somewhere along the line.

I normally don't bother with any particular room requests, but since I'm traveling alone this time I'd prefer not to have a ground floor room with sliders out to a patio. It just makes me feel less safe. I currently have a standard view room booked for WL. Do any of the standard view rooms walk out on ground level? It looked like, from what I've seen, that they are all at least on the 2nd floor, but I wanted to be sure. Depending on the grounds, I've seen 2nd floor rooms still walking out on flat ground.

It's really my only concern room wise. The only time I've ever requested a something specific room wise (a ground floor room at POFQ this year, since one of the people I was traveling with couldn't walk up steps) they weren't able to grant it. I'd prefer not to have to ask for anything if possible.

Thanks for any help!

From page 1, second post...

STANDARD VIEW: Rooms have 2 Queen Beds, and are located on Floors 4, 5 & 6. On the North (MK) side, they face the service area. There are also 4th floor rooms that overlook the lobby and lookout to roof peaks.

There are no Standard View Rooms that are located on the ground floor only 4th floor or higher. So you will be OK.

Just got back from 4 nights at the lodge! Roaring forks was busy any time after 8 for breakfast and picked up again at lunch time. Cast members moved the line along and things went smoothly. food was good too!

we were given a 1st floor room first and we just were not happy with it, with a quick call to the front desk we were moved to a room on the third floor.

Mousekeeping was great, except for the one day when the timing was just wrong and we had to call for them to clean the room when we went to dinner.

decorations were great

transportation was smooth and both the buses and boats were running in a timely manor.

Whispering Canyon Cafe dinner was the least liked dinner of the week, we were put in the "annex" the area in front of the pin cart and we missed all the antics inside which made the waitress throwing straws at us in an empty area seem silly. food was dry and meat not great quality.

service awsome.

any questions you can send my way. i have some photos to post as soon as i can get organized.

I must say it's not really much of anything. Not long and not really fast...but my 9 YO loved it! I went down it a few times, too. I would say it's like most other "hotel slides"...if that makes sense.

My 5 year old and 2 year old nephews are still talking about the waterslide from our trip back in September.

Oh man... I am dissapointed to hear about Whispering Canyon Cafe. What do others think? Is it worth going to?

Our experiences there have been that breakfast is fine, while lunch and dinner isn't worth the price. We enjoy antics, but it can't make up for a poor meal. For example, we love 50s Prime Time because we not only are entertained there, we're offered tasty food.

One caveat: it's been a couple of years since we've eaten at WCC. We're thinking about trying it again next time.

We ate there for dinner in August and the best I can say is it was ok.... We ate there back in '05 & '03 and thought it was much better then.

I think it is worth doing if you have small kids at least once. You will still have a good time.

I think some of the reason it wasn't as fun for us as in the past is because my oldest DD is 12. She was is in that "don't draw any attention to us" mode.

My fam. was just there last week, and we had lunch, which all enjoyed. In my opinion, however, the food is just so-so, and most go for the antics. I only booked it because some first-timers in the group had never been.
My brother-in-law said the brisket sandwich was great, and my niece had some sort of veggie enchilada which she enjoyed. I tasted it, and it was very good. Unfortunately, my sandwich was blah.

i think alot had to do with us being put in the "Anex" we were the only ones out there!

i would think the brisket sandwich would be good because that was the best part of the skillet. My mother had rememberd having a good meal there 10 years ago so that is why i made the reservations for her it was also because we were going to the MVMCP that night and it was easy to eat before we went over.
for a family i am sure they would never sit you in the "Anex" as they were sitting families in the main dining room where there was sinign and napkin spinning. i wish they would not assume that two adults would not want to participate in the action. we were able to take our desert as coffee and take it to go because at the point of desert we were fed up with the situation and just wanted to get over to the party.

My 5 year old and 2 year old nephews are still talking about the waterslide from our trip back in September.

Just curious, how did the 2 year olds get to go down the slide? It was my understanding from other resort pools that the child has to be able to swim in order to go down the slide and they wouldn't let parents go down with them or stand at the bottom to catch them.

My 5 and 4 yr olds love slides but they are just learning to swim and are masters of nothing yet. Can kids go down the slide in life jackets or something....and if so, does WL provide them?

Thanks in advance.

Going back to WL in January, but we're trying out Club Level for the first time ever!

Our last stay at WL was in 2006, this is our first non-DVC stay since then. Does Cub's Den still have family time in the afternoon? If so, what are the hours?

And what time does Roaring Forks close? Do they stop serving hot food earlier? DH arrives later than we do, and I want to pick up a sandwich for him before they close. I don't suppose there's anywhere I can microwave his food when he arrives? His flight flies in at 1020 pm and he's taking Magical Express, so I'm not expecting him until after 1130 or so.

Thanks!

Roaring Fork's sandwich/salad area closes at 10, and the grill closes at 11, as I recall. The whole shebang closes at midnight.

First time at WDW and stayed at WL. We just loved it! We were in room 6068 (Woods view) We had a room that overlooked the lobby area (& awesome Christmas tree) and with our outside view, we watched the MK fireworks every night. We didn't have to ask for the turndown service. It was done every night we were there (except a couple times when we were in the room and turned down the service but were able to keep the chocolate mints! lol)

I'm sure my pictures will look like everyone else's but I will post them when I get them uploaded on the net!

We will be checking on the 24th also! What time are you checking in? I asked a CM about doing the online check in and he told me that I have a better chance of getting my room request if I don't do the online check in. Anyone heard anything about this?

HI! We should be checking in around 11 am or so, based upon our flight schedule. I wil be using the traditional check-in services offered, as the online check-in is still too new and I really prefer the human connection! I hope you have a wonderful trip!!!! :)

We stayed in a courtyard view room #5037 it was above roaring forks on the 5th floor. I will have pictures to post of the view when I get the chance to get them off my camera. For all of you going down the next couple of weeks I wish you a safe and magical christmas you are going to love the WL.:santa:
