I may have made this up in my mind but, did I read something about rubbing Humphreys nose for good luck?

From page 1:

The Legend of Humphrey Bear and his MAGICAL NOSE.

Humphrey is located in the Lobby and is the Mascot (an animal, person, or thing adopted by a group as its representative symbol and supposed to bring good luck) of The Wilderness Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge Vet's Legend is that if you rub Humphreys Nose at the start of or during your visit to WDW you will be favored with PIXIE DUST and you will have a MAGICAL STAY.

We got to be a flag family on our last morning and Stan brought us up to raise the flags. What a magical morning!!!

We had a great trip and the Lodge is just beautiful! We had a Courtyard view room on the 5th floor and had a great view of the main pool and Bay lake. We watched the water parade from the balcony almost every night.

One night we went over to the HDDR. The show was GREAT and my kids (5 and 7) had a great time too. We were taking the boat back to the Lodge and our captain was Danny. He was GREAT!!!! He had everyone singing Christmas carols or Disney songs. He put a smile on everyone's face and really got us all in the Christmas mood.

I will post pictures soon. :thumbsup2

Wow! Sounds like a great trip! Can't wait to see your pics!I can't wait to get back "Home" to the Lodge!

We just returned from 6 nights at the Lodge and it was sooooo wonderful! We stayed our first night at the All-Star Sports and when I arrived at the Lodge I was blown away by the lobby, but so-so about the room. We had a courtyard view on the first floor (1011) that was close to the boat launch.

The room was not much bigger than at the All-Star Sports, which was one of the reasons we chose the Lodge since we were traveling with my disabled dad, who was using an ECV. I was also ho-hum about our patio as I was really hoping for a better view. Near the beginning of our trip I even said to a friend, "It's nice, but I'm not sure it's worth the money." With that all said, though, by the end of our trip I was positively in love with the Lodge!

We spent a good amount of time each day on our patio watching the bunnies and ducks. Our kids loved eating breakfast out there! We loved having drinks at night after they went to sleep.

We were right around the corner from the Roaring Fork, so grabbing a snack or drink was a five minute process. Our walk to the MK boat was also five minutes. Our walk to the buses took up through the lobby, which was beautiful, so no biggie about it being a little lengthy.

For the first time since spending a week at the AKL, I really felt like I wanted to take a day to just spend at the resort. I've stayed at the Pop Century a few times and liked it just fine. But I can't say I ever thought of it as more of a place to sleep. At the WL I felt like it was it's own experience.

I'm sure we'll stay the Pop again as we can't afford the WL every time, but I'm definitely looking forward to returning. The Christmas decorations were just breath taking. It's a special place where the decor alone can coax you to cozy up to a giant fireplace when it's 83 degrees outside. :-)

To everyone who will be spending their next vacay at the WL, you'll love it!

Does anyone know why the mantel about the 23fireplace in VML is not level? I am sure there is a story there. Thanks.

This is because everything is real. When you put a wood mantel above a real heat source it dries out the moisture that is remaining in the wood. the mantel must not have been Heat cured (completely dried out) before shaping. Once the moisture dries out the wood tends to warp and bow. Just gives it a touch of personality instead of a fake wooden mantel.

Almost there!:) Two weeks from now I hope to be relaxing at the lodge, drinking hot cocoa by the fireplace, or a glass of wine in one of the little nooks we love so much. Ahh.....I can't wait!!!

We're going to be at the WL for the second time Jan 20-28, but it will be the first time on the DDP. Does anyone know if the bagels at RF count as a snack credit on the DDP? I notice on the snack thread over on the Dining Plan board, they list danishes, croissants, and muffins, but no mention of bagels, even though the menu on allears.net shows them as being the same price as those other items.

I'm really excited about our rapidly approaching vacation! Thanks to everyone who posts here for all the great information.

Be sure to report back about your trip!! We will be going right after you!

For the question about the bagel, it is a snack item on the DDP. The pastries are yummy too. For breakfast keep in mind you get two drinks on the counter service plan. I got two ice teas every am and put one in my room fridge to enjoy by the pool later in the day. You can get coffee and juice, juice and milk etc................

Hello all WL lovers....just wanted to post and let everyone know that my wonderful DH gave me the best Christmas gift ever!!! He made me a WL Lobby Music CD!!!!!!!! :lovestruc
He downloaded all the music and burned it onto 2 CD's. He even took some of our pics from the WL and made covers for the CD's and the case!! :goodvibes
So, next Saturday when we make our 9 hour drive to WDW, we will be listening to that CD to get us ready to be back "home". YAY!!!

We just returned from the WL yesterday. It was beautiful. We normally stay at AKL, but we had a great deal for the WL. I had a standard view booked and I assume we were upgraded because we looked out to the woods and a small pond. The room was just down from Roaring Fork. It was an amazing location because it was close to the lobby. We were only there for 4 days and were hardly in our room so I didn't see paying a lot for it. We could see Wishes through the trees even on the ground floor.

They had a group playing bells in the lobby the first two nights we were there. It was really pretty.

Sounds like you had a great time! We will be staying there for the first time next month-usually stay at the Poly, so were excited about our new venture. We have also booked a standard-do you remember what room # you were? I was thinking of upgrading, but I'm just not sure. Thanks!

Room 1010
I wouldn't if I were you. I don't think it's worth it. However, I am originally from Michigan and the view didn't thrill me that much. I'm not a view type of gal anyway. I looked at that for years;) It's very similar...woods are woods to me. Not saying that it's not a beautiful resort mind you, but I just wouldn't pay for it. I did enjoy the birds though and ducks:love:

The location I'd pay for though:rotfl: the place is huge! It's big like AKL...we walked down the hallway...long way down there!

I really was more concerned about the noise off the lobby.

Thanks, I just see so many pics of views of the rooftops & YUCK!! That's not what I expect when you pay what you pay...especially when most of our views were the garden at the Poly-absolutely beautiful!!!!! I think I'm just gonna wait & check in & if it's really bad-I'll go down & see if anything else is available. So, do you suggest a specific area?? I was just going to ask for a quiet room.:confused3

I'm not the one to ask. I do understand about not wanting to look at a roof top too. I guess the area above the service trucks can be loud during the day. I would imagine that they will not be booked up so perhaps you could always move if you wanted. We arrived at 2:30 am after leaving during blizzard warnings so I didn't even look at anything but the bed;) It had two queens and it was close to the lobby so life was good.:goodvibes
