The Wilderness Lodge and Villas FAQ (Part 7) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Thanks so much....I will keep hoping and trying. The $240.00 per night price would make it within budget to change my reservations from POR to WL :goodvibes

Are you looking for 2010? If so I'd call every day when CRO opens at 7am. That would give you the best chance. I've heard of people who have reservations at one hotel show up at the hotel they wanted just to ask if there are any openings. So that could be a last chance try and would only take a little longer. :confused3

Good luck!!

Brian

* Rack rate seems to be available on Disneyworld.com for your dates. Just checked!

Honeymooners here...Staying in a 1 BR at the VWL.

While there, we are going on the Fort wilderness sleigh ride..can't wait!!! :lovestruc:banana:

Standards are hard to come by since there are only about 50 of them in the entire hotel, and given you are in a very popular week at WL because of the christmas decorations. Rack rate for 2010 would be $275 for woods view, and $240 for standard view.

If you want one, keep trying. I think 5 days out is the cancellation for room only reservations, so try that morning.

Brian

If you are a AAA member, you may be able to get a discount on the price of the room. Although if WDW is running any deals, they are usually better than the AAA discount.

I'm so happy for you!!! Sounds like you've got luck on your side!!! Sleigh rides can be hard to come by on short notice, but you can always give it a try.

If I were you and had some down time, I would just relax in the lobby. It is so beautiful this time of year. ;-)

Does anyone know what type of TVs are in the 1 bedroom Villas at Wilderness Lodge?

I'm wondering if they have the new flat screens with HDMI. My phone has an HDMI port, so I could use that to play a few shows for the kids.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for your suggestion to keep checking and for your encouragement....that's what helped me get the reservation (going on 1st thing in the am!).

Are the sleigh rides worth the money??? I saw them mentioned in one thread, but really don't know much about them ... only that they ride through Fort Wilderness .... is it worth giving up lobby lazing to ride through the decorated campsite??

Also...have you eaten at Whispering Canyon?? We have a reservation for lunch before MVMCP and wonder how the food is....Artist Pointe is a little too fancy for my tastebuds.

Thanks again and have a Happy Thanksgiving !!

 We returned from a short 4 ngt stay at the VWL on Tuesday - it was fabulous!

I was very hesitant to stay here, but my friend had wanted to for a long time - when the Villas popped up at an AP rate, when just about everything was sold out - we were delighted. All I can say is wow! We loved the Villas!

We had a studio - location was perfect, room size was perfect - a corner room with a balcony facing the pine trees, but not dense so we could see Bay Lake & see/hear the Electrical Water Pageant at 9:35 each ngt. Also, from the balcony or side window we could see the top of Wishes - what a great room location!

It was very clean, in excellent condition. The room was cleaned for us by special needs, so not sure what it would have been like otherwise, but it seemed to be in very good condition. Flat screen TV.

The theme here is a bit more subtle than the Lodge - sort of rustic with a soft elegance in the lobby and hallways - rooms cozy. Holiday decorations were up on Friday morning, 11/19 - we were told the decorations were due to go up overnight Wednesday 11/17, but delayed a ngt. (a manager told us that the Wednesday before the weekend prior to Thanksgiving week is when WL/VWL holiday decorations go up).

Anyway, both in the Lodge and Villas the decorations were beautiful! I preferred the Villas because I loved the circular atrium, rocking chairs, fireplace, side rooms etc. It was so warm and homey (I know the Lodge has the same, but the lobby is massive!). The walk to the Villas is very pretty, especially with the decorations.

Every CM we encountered was cheerful and helpful. Several went out of their way to help us )a shop CM managed to find a couple of sought after pins and saved them for my friend) - we left cards with a manager for each one. A housekeeping manager was especially wonderful on our last morning - I'd had major surgery 7 weeks prior and thought a trip to the World would be fine...not so much. All the walking we do when feeling healthy is far more than I should have been doing... knowing a late check out at the Villas is rare, if not nearly impossible, I decided to explain the situation (train did not leave until 7:30 p.m., I was in a lot of pain) in hopes of maybe an extra hour with a noon check-out. She went above and beyond! Not only was she understanding, but very kind and when explaining the Villas were overbooked, yet she said not to worry - she would be over in a few minutes to drop off keys to a room in the Lodge for our use until whatever time we needed it! This was major pixie dust! We were out of the Villas by 11 a.m. and moved over to the Lodge room (1134) - a king HC room, probably a Woods View - there was a grassy area and sidewalk outside the room, very pretty. We had walked by these rooms when going outside from the Villas to Roaring Forks or the Water Launch.

The lodge room was not in nearly as good of condition as the Villa - the halls were narrow (and noisy) and in need of refurbishment as well. The room was also not as clean - whomever did the vacuuming between guests missed candy and loose change under the table - which would be hard to miss. Would definitely not stay in the Lodge until it is refurbished and maybe not even then b/c we enjoyed the Villas so much.

Anyway, we absolutely loved our Villa stay and would return during the same time of year. Roaring Forks was terrific and again, CMs so nice, always helpful and smiling. :)

Thank you to everyone on this thread for your help when we were planning. Will post some pics after my friend has time to upload a few. Fingers crossed for later, but maybe not until tomorrow.:thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

p.s. Buses were hit or miss. Waited the longest for HS and Epcot buses - one afternoon 8 AK buses arrived and 6 left empty.:confused3 We did mention it to a driver, as there was no one else around, but he didn't really say much.
Water Launch to the MK, CR or Ft Wilderness were all fantastic. Never waited more then 10 mins at the most, but usually much less. :goodvibes

Can anyone tell me how late you can fill your mug up with a drink, and where you can do this.
Thanks

Roaring Forks is the only place to fill your mug at WL/VWL. It is on the lobby level. Think it was open until 11, but hours can change, so do check for hours when you arrive.:thumbsup2

And, thank you for posting your great review. Sounds like the deficiencies you observed in the WL HC room were due more to sub-standard housekeeping than age? Even an old hotel can be spotlessly maintained (like The Greenbrier;)).

I hope you feel better soon:flower3:. Even when healthy, vacations can take a lot out of you.

Absolutely agree! Excellent example.:thumbsup2

The Lodge room did look almost uncared for - if that makes sense. Not so much in need of a refurb as some TLC and a major cleaning. The hallways did seem more worn - and coming from the Villas the halls felt narrow. Nevertheless, we did not have a single complaint - it was a wonderful stay. If my friend and I can sneak away from our families in 2012, we might do another 'mom's long weekend' the same time of year and back at the Villas. ::yes::

Thanks so much for the good wishes.:goodvibes Feeling pretty good, just a little sore and tired. Finally had a good night's rest last night.:flower3:

We just came back from a split stay (AKL 4 nights and WL 3 nights). I know what you mean about the hallways. They are a pretty stark contrast from the lobby but I think that has more to do with the wallpaper/ paint choices someone made in there....almost had a Holiday Inn feel to them. I swore the room was smaller too but we debated on that one a long time.

In comparison between the two resorts, Roaring Forks is hands down nicer then Mara. Mara looked more like a dingy college cafeteria, where Roaring Forks was much more polished. The kids thought the pool was better at AKL but loved the geyser at WL. The ferry to MK is what, in the end, makes WL our number one choice of the two.

If I ever get the opportunity to spend time in a deluxe again it will definitely be the Wilderness Lodge but it's looking like our next trip will be Pop and then hopefully the Art of Animation in 2012! A deluxe resort would take an extra year of savings :confused3

Roaring Forks is open until midnight though I think they do stop doing some hot stuff at 11:00/11:30.

Just wanted to say that we're checking into the WL tomorrow for the week!! I can't WAIT since it's our 1st time to stay there and to see the Christmas decorations!!! :santa:

My DD5 and I just returned from our first stay at WL and I was thrilled with my choice to stay there.

I had read that the rooms needed to be refurbished, but I found it to be extremely clean (Thanks, Gloria!) and had plenty of room for the 2 of us. I love how the sink area has so much room to put all of your stuff. The bed was comfortable and there were 3 pillows on each bed.

When returning from the parks each day, it was so relaxing to walk back on this property. I found the lobby to be a relaxing area with the Christmas tree, soft Christmas music playing in the background and the fireplace roaring. Calmness just came over me.

I enjoyed grabbing breakfast or lunch and sitting by the pool watching my daughter swim. The grounds are just beautiful!

I can't wait to book my next trip here!

We will be there on Sunday for our first WL stay and our first Christmas time vacation! I am so excited. I will let you know how we make out when we get back :thumbsup2
