For years I shared food, wine, laughs and tears here so after thinking about contacting people through FB I decided to post some news here.

For those that dis hold Greg and I close I wanted to share.

We are having twins!!!!!!
We might be the oldest parents on the playground but we will feel the most blessed!
For our family & friends that have held us close regardless of distance we are humbled.
God is good~

I posted on FB, but let me just say HOORAY!!!!:banana::banana:

Twins are the absolute best! You're in for quite a ride!

I'm not doing much of anything other than watching old reruns of Murder Mysteries on TV and playing on the computer.

 to the bolded parts. I don't understand why the H8 mongers don't see that we mean no harm. How can love hurt others?

It can't hurt others. :goodvibes

Oh Alison, I'm so glad that Fran's doing better.

Now I'm thinking about you!

I wish we were closer. We'd be bringing you some fabulous Texas food and a few DVD's and we could all watch some movies together. Who cares if Fran was snoozing in the chair? ;) Don't neglect yourself during this time. Whether that means venting here or sending a PM to whomever you need. OR heck, take some time and begin to plan your next trip. After all, you've got a great time to look forward to. :cloud9:

Oh, yeah, baby! It's my favorite time of year for a reason!!! I love pie!!!

UncleR is a pie lover too. :lmao:

I don't do warm fruit pies. :scared1: I just don't think fruit should be warm. If God had wanted fruit to be warmed, he would give it to us off the vine like that. ;) :lmao:

But, lemony pies, or pecan pies, or chess pies...I'll eat 'em all day long!

And Glynis, UncleR is charting out the route from our house to yours. If it's not too far, we may be attending pie night.

We also think we need a food thread DIS meet. We have ten acres. Y'all could pitch tents or something and we can go down that dern spankin' new fancy schmancy McDonald's they put up in the town. :lmao:

Seriously, I can't wait to have the opportunity to meet you ladies! :goodvibes

Come on over!! As for the pitchin' of tents... that sounds like a regular hoot! My kids are always up for a trip to a McDonald's!

I understand your aversion to the warm fruit pies. I used to feel the same way, until I tried a cherry pie my friend made for my birthday. It changed my whole attitude!

As we get closer, I'll dig out my recipes and start posting the pies that I'll be making. I have a recipe for a pecan pie that calls for browned butter. I swear, it's the most sinful pie you'll ever taste. My niece's husband swears he married into the family just because of that pie.

Oh Alison, I'm so glad that Fran's doing better.

Now I'm thinking about you!

Well I spoke too soon. The doctor sent an email to her only this morning asking if we wanted her to come by. I didn't know that I was supposed to check her email and we didn't find it until 6PM, by then it was too late.

She's taken three morphines since 3PM because the pain is worse than before. The doctor emailed me prescriptions for a scan and blood work, so tomorrow I have to try and figure out how to get her to the imaging center. The hard part will be getting her into the car. I have a scooter for her, but getting her into the SUV.

She wants to find out if the infection has gone deeper than the surface.

Today was one of those days, where you wake up and everything goes wrong.

Boo! I hate days like that. Hope things improve tomorrow

Fran is more lucid today. She did take another morphine pill this morning before she was supposed to, but she's not asking me all the loopy questions like yesterday. Her wound is definitely healing up. It still looks awful but I can see that the actual wounds are starting to heal up.

I'm so glad you can see improvements.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm so thrilled for you both! :yay:

 I'm like that for the most part, too! I make peach cobbler and eat all the dough out of it and leave the peaches

Though I don't do camping - any nice hotels nearby? :flower3:

Oh no. Please keep us updated. Sending good health and healing vibes. Thinking of you both.

:lmao: Well, the town 15 miles over has some nice ones.

Can you believe this town is so small we don't have a hotel? :rolleyes1

But, there's a lake, a Chicken Express, and a new McDonald's. And we have wine and lots of it. :flower3:

:rotfl:

And honey, I don't camp either. My idea of camping is a hotel without room service.

Linguini & Clam Sauce

Serving for 1
Cook Time 15-20 minutes

DSCN3081.jpg

Linguini or Spaghetti (I'm not sure how I know how much, but around 1/4 box)
1-2 tbl olive oil
2-4 cloves garlic
1/2 zucchini
4-5 mushrooms
1 can chopped clams
splash of white wine
1/2 tsp (or so) Oregano & Basil
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tsp cornstarch mixed with water.
Parmesan Cheese

I usually make this just for me on the fly since Fran doesn't really care for it. I've been cooking this recipe for over 20 years, so most everything is done without measuring. I've made my best guesses. I didn't have any zucchini and mushrooms, so I just omitted them this time.

Boil water for pasta, cook according to package directions.

In a small saucepan heat olive oil over medium heat. Chop garlic, slice mushrooms & zucchini. Add to pan and saute until tender. Add clam juice from the can, a splash of white wine, oregano, basil, crushed red pepper, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add remaining clams, heat. Stir cornstarch with water and pour into sauce.

Drain noodles, put in bowl, pour sauce over the top and sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese. Serve.

Princess - I love Christmas baking!!! I usually start making my cookies the first week in November, and freezing the dough so I can just pop them in the oven when I'm ready to bake. It makes them all taste fresh, but saves on work and exhaustion, closer to the holidays. I also like to bake my mom's pumpkin bread. That just says "Christmas" to me! This year, for Thanksgiving, I've been given permission to make my gingerbread trifle, as my SIL is making pumpkin pie!!! I'm ridiculously excited about that!!! I'd love to start sharing some Christmas/Thanksgiving recipes!!!

I am planning on starting on my cake in mid November. I'll need to see how much fruit is this year before I decide on making jam or not.

Can't wait to see what everyone else does!

That pumpkin bread recipe looks fantastic! And who would have thought that you could use tinned tomato soup in cookies?

Your pie nights sound like a lot of fun!

Just an FYI ~ Matthew's FB status went from single to in a relationship yesterday. We haven't meet the girl yet but Matthew has met her parents. It is so good to see my boy happy again. Ali (his HS girl - they went together for 4 1/2 years) really did a number on him so I am glad to see he is letting his heart be out there again. He is :cloud9: so all is good.

I hope you like his new GF! Glad he's happy again.

We could be in shorts on Christmas Day, or we could be building snowmans. Never know!

We could be in shorts or woollens here too!

PIO- Some Cape Cod pictures, you've inspired me to keep my camera handy!

Robin! Thank you so much for those gorgeous pictures. I love seeing different pictures of where everyone lives. Hope you enjoyed taking them...they were great. :thumbsup2

Today was one of those days, where you wake up and everything goes wrong.

First, I lost something I needed. Then, we were wrong on a vet appointment for Tooter, and she was supposed to go in this morning when we thought she went in tomorrow.

I had a difficult couple of things at work.

And then, I was missing an ingredient for dinner and had to make a dinner on the fly. I never do that! :headache:
:headache:

Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

:flower3:  :grouphug:

Hope Fran gets better and you get some rest.

SNOW :scared1: It is in our forecast as well :headache: Best wishes to your Matt!

Hope the snow stays away for a bit longer.

Congratulations!

Dinner tonight was chicken, carrots and cabbage & bacon. I was at TJ's last night and they had cabbage already shredded and since I had bacon pieces in the freezer it was fate. :thumbsup2

Did you like the cabbage and bacon?

1st week in October, 2013.

Franandaj and I will be in WDW. :rolleyes1

Hey, all! Today we are having leftover meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Glynis: I am intrigued with making the cookie dough and freezing it to use later. Could you post the recipe, or show me where I can find it? I am really wanting to do a lot of baking this December and would like to get a head start on it.

Also, I am totally making the pumpkin bread and the mystery cookies. I am intrigued by the cookie recipe!

I just have to say that you two warm my heart!!! How I wish that I knew you in person! I love to see a couple so in love. Makes me feel hopeful, and happy! Thanks for being so willing to share your love with all of us! Don't ever stop!!!
I TOTALLY agree!!!! :lovestruc We love you guys :grouphug:

I really hope Fran has a good day today :)

Quick fly-by from work. pirate:

WFD is bread pudding pancakes and bacon :woohoo:

I hope everyone is doing well:hug:

One day I hope my computer is once again operational. My computer guy is busy and AT&T could fall off the edge of the earth with a little push from me:rolleyes1

WFD? I'm going to try a Nanatized version of Brandi's Turkey Meatballs. I have individually frozen turkey patties that I made a while back. I seasoned them pretty liberally when I made them. I have one thawing in the fridge and I bought some blue cheese last night. I'll omit the jalapenos, and I've already added the eggs and spices, I'll add soy sauce and panko, and I'll have to take a peek at the ingredients again to figure out what else. The question is what do I serve them with? :confused3

I am glad Fran is feeling better and that the wound is healing....

How are you?

You will have to let me know how dinner turned out. We served ours with a pasta, covered in a olive oil/butter sauce.

The cookie thing is really easy. You can do it with any drop cookies, like chocolate chip or oatmeal, etc. Simply make your recipe like you normally would. Line a cookie sheet with parchment or foil. Shape your dough into balls and cover the sheet. Don't worry about leaving room for them to spread... you're not going to cook them yet. Place the tray in the freezer for about 1 hour, until they are frozen and not sticky to the touch. Place the dough balls into a big Zip-loc baggie on which you've labeled the baking instructions. Then you can put the baggie back in the freezer, and just pull it out when you need cookies.

I've frozen the Mystery cookies, molasses cookies, cranberry chip cookies, regular chocolate chip cookies, dreamsicle cookies, and other drop cookies this way, with no problem. Good luck, and happy baking!

Good morning, from the frozen West! It's cold here!!! Still no freezer, so I'm huddling by the wood burning stove. Alan did tell me that he hopes to have a new furnace installed "soon". What that means is anyone's guess. Although, I did see him pouring over the estimates that we've already gotten. One more coming today!

Dinner tonight will be Cowboy Quesadillas. Jacob has Scouts and Katie has her church youth group, so this will be quick, easy, and warm!

I like the idea of using chocolate covered raisins!!! I'm gonna have to try that!

I'm planning on starting my cookie making next week. I know I'll be making the Mystery cookies, Molasses cookies, Hot chocolate chip cookies, and a few others. Should be a fun season!

For the newbies - My aunt started inviting all the family (extended, as well as immediate) to her house the night before Thanksgiving for pie. Her reasoning was that after a huge meal, no one can do justice to and enjoy the pies. So, the night before, we gather together, and everyone brings pies. Some bring one, some bring multiple. We lay them all out and cut them into tiny slivers. Then people load up plates and we gorge on pie! It's a wonderful tradition, and when she passed away several years ago, her daughter continued the tradition. I've introduced it to Alan's side of the family, and we hold a Pie Night with them the Monday before Thanksgiving, and then have another Pie Night with my side of the family on the night before Thanksgiving. It's also become a fun time to try new pie recipes. Each of my kids makes at least one pie, and they like to try new recipes (except Jacob, who is a pumpkin pie purist.). We've already started going through my recipe books to find this years pies. I know we'll make a pecan, a Derby pie, and a pumpkin, but who knows what other kinds we'll make. The trying is the fun part!

that is an amazing tradition.... I wished I had enough family around me to do something like this... It sounds so beautiful and heart warming.

You don't have to do it with extended family... make it a neighborhood tradition.
