Ok, you asked for the recipe, and here it is! Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

Mystery Cookies

1/2 C. melted butter (1 stick)
3 1/2 C. granulated sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 can condensed tomato soup
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
2 C. raisins
2 C. chopped walnuts (I use pecans, as I hate walnuts)
4 1/2 C. flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Microwave the butter in your mixing bowl to melt it. Add the sugar, let it cool a bit, and mix in the beaten eggs. Open a can of condensed tomato soup, add that to your mixing bowl, and then mix it all up. Stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt. Then add the raisins, and the nuts, and stir. Measure the flour and add it in one-cup increments, mixing after each addition. Let the dough sit for 10 minutes or so. Drop the dough by teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet, 12 to a standard sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown on top. Let them sit on the cookie sheet for a minute or two (no longer or they'll stick), and then transfer them to a wire rack for complete cooling.

Yield: 10 dozen.

Glynis, that is an interesting recipe. I think I saw a chocolate cake recipe on Pioneer Woman that had tomato soup in it. Who knew the many uses for tomato soup?

Robin, nice pictures. Do you live in Wellfleet? John and I visited Coast Guard beach over Columbus Day and took some similar pictures. I did not know the beach was known as "the Graveyard of the Atlantic." All I know is that the water there is super freezing!

Jen, I don't just have a grill. My range top still works, it is only the oven that is broken. Plus I have a microwave, toaster oven etc. But if I want to make bread I have to grill it. I have actually come to prefer the taste of grilled pizza over baked pizza. I like the subtle char flavor.

I hope Fran is improving today.

Laura is crazy busy between work and the kids activities and getting ready for Halloween (I think she is making the kids costumes from scratch  ) but I know she will want to jump in eventually and talk cookies with everyone. She is the family cookie baker.

WFD: not sure, either meatball subs with the leftover meatballs from Sunday, or a stuffed pumpkin. I am leaving the decision to John, so my money is on the meatball subs.

Perhaps they scheduled the conference to coincide the Dallas Pride.

The restaurant is Del Frisco's. I know it's a chain, but we ate at the one in Ft. Worth and it was awesome! We went to the one in Vegas last January and it did not disappoint! There's one in Dallas, but it didn't get nearly as good of reviews as the Ft. Worth restaurant. Coming from So Cal that's not much of a drive for us.

Last time we were in Texas she was hospitalized with pneumonia the day we were supposed to fly out. We stayed an extra 6 days, she was at Arlington Medical Center, not fun, but she is willing to go back. To Texas, hopefluly not the hospital.

She will never be pain free. Normally she takes percosett and norco to control her arthritis pain. That's why she needs the morphine for even more acute pain. Her normal pain maintenance meds would knock most people off their rocker!!!!! When I have a pain-related problem that's really bad, I take half of one of her pills and that kicks my butt!

I'm predicting a bigger meet, with Aimee too! :goodvibes

How's Fran today?

I'm sure it takes a lot to assist her with her pain, after all, look at all she's dealing with. I know your role as her partner is a difficult one sometimes, but your love shines through. Hope everyone's better today!

Jen - I don't think we have Mexicorn here. What is it? Is it like a creamed corn?

Anyway, have a good day all. I'm interested to see what y'all do for Christmas. Maybe we can have a whole host of Christmas cake recipes for this thread...if you haven't done it before.

princess::upsidedow

Mexicorn is Mexican corn. It has chiles in it.

And I can't wait to do a holiday recipe share! :cool1:

Morning, everyone! Today I am making meatloaf, garlic mashed potatoes, and a vegetable to be decided later. I am also going to whip up some cream biscuits later, just for the heck of it.

Nothin' like a homemade biscuit. :lovestruc

Princess - I love Christmas baking!!! I usually start making my cookies the first week in November, and freezing the dough so I can just pop them in the oven when I'm ready to bake. It makes them all taste fresh, but saves on work and exhaustion, closer to the holidays. I also like to bake my mom's pumpkin bread. That just says "Christmas" to me! This year, for Thanksgiving, I've been given permission to make my gingerbread trifle, as my SIL is making pumpkin pie!!! I'm ridiculously excited about that!!! I'd love to start sharing some Christmas/Thanksgiving recipes!!!

I'm not a gingerbread fan. But, you added the word trifle, which automatically makes me interested.

Here's how I watched it.... take a napkin, cover your eyes with it, and stay that way for the whole movie :sad1::sad2:

And here I am getting ready for winter... It was 38 when i left the house this morning and the high is mid 50's today :cold:
Thanks for all the well wishes for Kady. She is 100 % and she went to the gym with me last night and even did 30 minutes on the eliptical machine!!

Have a great day everyone!

UncleR is a scary movie fan. I tag along because we like to watch movies together. But, I can't watch Paranormal Activity. If she goes to watching one that is too scary, I just get on the computer and watch till it's over. :lmao:

So glad Kady is better.

Crockpot Roast

In the bottom of the crockpot empty 1 package of dry onion soup mix. Place your roast on top (I used an arm roast - probably 3 lbs.) on top of the roast empty a can of jellied (not whole berry) Cranberry sauce (don't worry that you don't like cranberries, because it doesn't taste anything like them). Cover and cook on low 8 - 10 hours.
OH MY GOODNESS Ladies this was fall apart tender and oh so flavorful. I took the drippings and made a wonderful gravy for the mashed potatoes.

The weather has taken a turn for the cold today. There are even winter storm warnings in the panhandle for tonight - 4 -5 inches of snow. :scared1: I am so not ready for winter and the ice and snow. If I could stay home and not be out in it I love it, but since I have to be out in it I don't like it one bit.

I would also be really interested in a cookie exchange. Oh how fun!!

Oy that roast sounds delicious! And I agree. I think we should do a cookie exchange! :goodvibes

Stay warm!

Tonight we're having Huli Huli Chicken, a Hawaiian dish made in the crockpot and served over rice. It sounded good, and smelled good this morning, so I hope it's a hit!

Is this a pinterest thing? ;) :lmao:

Jen- I don't really use a recipe for onion soup, but this is what I do...
Slice a lot of onions, enough to fill up the pot. Cook for at least an hour, low and slow. Sometimes I add a little wine or beer, last night I used a splash of balsamic vinegar and deglased the pan. A sprinkle of thyme and a 50/50 mix of beef and chicken broth. Cook it for a while. I puree it (mostly) with an immersion blender. My husband used to not like the texture of cooked onions (I've sinced fixed that flaw of his) but he liked the taste. We both ended up liking the soup better pureed.
I toast a piece of bread, then top with swiss cheese and broil it. I don't do it right on the bowl because the bowl is a pain to clean broiled cheese off of and we don't have a dishwasher. Hope that helps.

Thank you! :worship:

Ok, you asked for the recipe, and here it is! Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

I've made tomato soup cake! These little babies are going on the "to try" list!

I don't know why I didn't think of the stovetop. :lmao: Wherever you make your pizza and food, it's still always beautiful!!!

Today was one of those days, where you wake up and everything goes wrong.

First, I lost something I needed. Then, we were wrong on a vet appointment for Tooter, and she was supposed to go in this morning when we thought she went in tomorrow.

I had a difficult couple of things at work.

And then, I was missing an ingredient for dinner and had to make a dinner on the fly. I never do that! :headache:
:headache:

Tomorrow will be a better day! Tomorrow is Halloween Party day in speech class. We're making some of the food crafts you guys posted! It'll be a nice break.

Tonight's dinner was a new recipe. Penne with sundried tomato cream sauce. Very easy and tasty. I'll post the recipe and a pic in a bit.

 all around!

Ellen - That roast with cranberries sounds very strange, but I can honestly say I have never actually had cranberries before. I suppose that I should change that this year.

Isn't it funny how news travels in these modern times? I've learned about several of my friends love lives when they "change their status"! Congrats to him!

Robin - what beautiful pictures! Where were they taken? My grandparents had a summer house in Harwich.

Aimee - We enjoyed Ft. Worth (until she went down), did a lot of shopping, went to a gun show. :rotfl:

Marissa - that's a lot of apples!

Jen - Sorry you had a bad day.

Fran is more lucid today. She did take another morphine pill this morning before she was supposed to, but she's not asking me all the loopy questions like yesterday. Her wound is definitely healing up. It still looks awful but I can see that the actual wounds are starting to heal up.

WFD? I'm going to try a Nanatized version of Brandi's Turkey Meatballs. I have individually frozen turkey patties that I made a while back. I seasoned them pretty liberally when I made them. I have one thawing in the fridge and I bought some blue cheese last night. I'll omit the jalapenos, and I've already added the eggs and spices, I'll add soy sauce and panko, and I'll have to take a peek at the ingredients again to figure out what else. The question is what do I serve them with? :confused3

I'm happy to pass along my mom's recipes! They are a treasure to me, and I hope to other people, as well.

Pumpkin Bread
3 large loaves

!
Holy Yummy! This one sounds like a keeper. i like chocolate chips. I also use chocolate covered raisins. Glynis- your cookie baking tip was a lifesaver. Marisa did some serious baking and that made a huge difference for me. I love Christmas cookies and bake a lot but when you add hers we had a great Christmas cookie tray.

Tell them about your Pie day :goodvibes

Just an FYI ~ Matthew's FB status went from single to in a relationship yesterday. We haven't meet the girl yet but Matthew has met her parents. It is so good to see my boy happy again. Ali (his HS girl - they went together for 4 1/2 years) really did a number on him so I am glad to see he is letting his heart be out there again. He is :cloud9: so all is good.
.

SNOW :scared1: It is in our forecast as well :headache: Best wishes to your Matt!

I make a chicken recipe with cranberry sauce and onion soup. I do use whole berry and I also will use apricot jam instead. I sometimes toss in Catalina French dressing ...............you know ..................

I hope it's a cheap fix, esp since he's already doing so much to help the new renter out.

It is not, that is why he just bought a room size for himself. He is a really good man, my son. Sharon's uncle has a rough road and having him in Donny;s condo is a win/win for both of them Donny was hoping to know by the weekend.

PIO- Some Cape Cod pictures, you've inspired me to keep my camera handy!

Stunning!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, you asked for the recipe, and here it is! Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

Mystery Cookies

Risa's Meme used to make Tomato Soup cake for her Gramps on his birthday. Her Dad loved Maple Walnut cake and she used to decorate it with a Halloween thing, his birthday was at the end of October.

Laura is crazy busy between work and the kids activities and getting ready for Halloween (I think she is making the kids costumes from scratch  ) but I know she will want to jump in eventually and talk cookies with everyone. She is the family cookie baker.
.

I remember her cookie baking marathons for Christmas! Tell her HI for me!

Today was one of those days, where you wake up and everything goes wrong.

 I thought of you two today :goodvibes I went to my sisters, her Molly had surgery yesterday. Her friend was there with Molly's big brother....well her looks like her but way bigger. Anyway, she and her wife married two years ago and she had me :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: describing their trip to Kleinfelds for wedding attire. They were on Say Yes to the Dress but said that part was a PIA and when the show wanted to film their wedding she said NO> She got teh receptionist totally flustered and went from NO BIG WHITE DRESS to a gorgeous dress. Beth ended up with a custom made palazzo pant suit that a designer who happened to be there for a trunk show created. She said those folks are very persuasive ;)

Dinner was very good and I ended up eating it alone, Buddy is still at work. I marinated scallopini turkey in a citrus marinade and grilling it alongside grilled squash. Salad, of course. I roasted spaghetti squash and will do something with it tomorrow. I want cake!

Here's one for you, Sweetheart!

She had a crappy day. ;)

I just have to say that you two warm my heart!!! How I wish that I knew you in person! I love to see a couple so in love. Makes me feel hopeful, and happy! Thanks for being so willing to share your love with all of us! Don't ever stop!!!

I like the idea of using chocolate covered raisins!!! I'm gonna have to try that!

I'm planning on starting my cookie making next week. I know I'll be making the Mystery cookies, Molasses cookies, Hot chocolate chip cookies, and a few others. Should be a fun season!

For the newbies - My aunt started inviting all the family (extended, as well as immediate) to her house the night before Thanksgiving for pie. Her reasoning was that after a huge meal, no one can do justice to and enjoy the pies. So, the night before, we gather together, and everyone brings pies. Some bring one, some bring multiple. We lay them all out and cut them into tiny slivers. Then people load up plates and we gorge on pie! It's a wonderful tradition, and when she passed away several years ago, her daughter continued the tradition. I've introduced it to Alan's side of the family, and we hold a Pie Night with them the Monday before Thanksgiving, and then have another Pie Night with my side of the family on the night before Thanksgiving. It's also become a fun time to try new pie recipes. Each of my kids makes at least one pie, and they like to try new recipes (except Jacob, who is a pumpkin pie purist.). We've already started going through my recipe books to find this years pies. I know we'll make a pecan, a Derby pie, and a pumpkin, but who knows what other kinds we'll make. The trying is the fun part!

Cool! Do you have a link to their episode or some pictures? You can PM me rather than post it here if you want.

And spaghetti squash is one of my favorite veggies. I love it sauteed (after roasting) with some fresh dill in olive oil. OMG. I'm craving it now!

And there is one piece of Texas sheet cake/Jen's nanatized version left. Would you like it?

I just have to say that you two warm my heart!!! How I wish that I knew you in person! I love to see a couple so in love. Makes me feel hopeful, and happy! Thanks for being so willing to share your love with all of us! Don't ever stop!!!

Well, thank you so much. You just made my day. And hopefully someday we can meet in person.

I know I'm speaking for both of us when I say that you ladies have truly become such an important part of our lives. I don't know what we'd do without you. (besides not eat as well ;) )

It was a big decision to make our announcement to the DIS. But, it was important to us to let people know that we just want what everyone has...love, family, a marriage, and everything that accompanies that.

Thank you for your kind words.

FB status :dance3: Marisa and I watched my nephew change his status daily. CHris is is a relationship. CHris is Single. back and forth. By the end of the week his status was "It's Complicated with XXXXXXXXXXXX" :lmao:

My heart is breaking for Fran, I cannot imagine the pain she has been in. I have to say that I hurt for you as well. I know that while it is natural to nurture the person suffering it is hard on the person who cares for that person. I seldom feel far away from all of you but there are a few times when i wish I was closer, this is one of those times

What a lovely tradition.

For years I shared food, wine, laughs and tears here so after thinking about contacting people through FB I decided to post some news here.

For those that dis hold Greg and I close I wanted to share.

We are having twins!!!!!!
We might be the oldest parents on the playground but we will feel the most blessed!
For our family & friends that have held us close regardless of distance we are humbled.
God is good~

Try the chocolate covered raisins in oatmeal cookies!

She said it is on often and was told it was one of the most googled episodes. I will PM the details, if I shared too much here folks would know who she was and that is not fair without her permission.

I "met" you when I responded to your announcement.

Dinner tonight was chicken, carrots and cabbage & bacon. I was at TJ's last night and they had cabbage already shredded and since I had bacon pieces in the freezer it was fate. :thumbsup2

Where would I find these recipes? Old food threads? Does anyone have them readily available?

We're on a dessert kick lately. :teeth:

This sounds like a wonderful tradition. We are sort of alone here, my parents live in Cupertino, my sister and her family are in Seattle. Fran doesn't have any family, so our holiday gatherings are usually four people max. When we don't have family for the holidays we travel. Last year was our first holiday season with her parents both gone. I'm not looking for sympathy, just commenting on what a wonderful holiday family tradtion you have!

I'm glad Fran's doing better. Hope in the midst of everything, you're getting some rest too!

And let us know how dinner went!

It was a big decision to make our announcement to the DIS. But, it was important to us to let people know that we just want what everyone has...love, family, a marriage, and everything that accompanies that.

I'm not doing much of anything other than watching old reruns of Murder Mysteries on TV and playing on the computer.

 to the bolded parts. I don't understand why the H8 mongers don't see that we mean no harm. How can love hurt others?

My heart is breaking for Fran, I cannot imagine the pain she has been in. I have to say that I hurt for you as well. Thank you very much. As long as I can tell she is breathing, it's OK. She mostly just sleeps. I am having a difficult time wanting to get out of bed. I'm mostly just doing stuff on my computer all day and watching TV. I cook dinner, but other than that :confused3 Today is the day that we would have flown to Orlando, so I didn't have any plans for the next nine days.

Oh, yeah, baby! It's my favorite time of year for a reason!!! I love pie!!!

That's the best part of Pie Night... it's adaptable! We've started inviting friends and neighbors. No one turns down pie! It's the perfect excuse to have a raucous party the night before a small family gathering. My cousin and her family moved to London for 3 years, and they held Pie Night there. They invited friends, neighbors, people from their church, and it became such a tradition, that these natives of a country that doesn't celebrate Pie Night, continue it now that my cousin has moved back to the States. Very cool!!!
