Glad that the wound is healing. As for the sleeping, blame it on the morphine. It makes me so sleepy, and a bit sick to my stomach, as well. I hate taking it.

We have Ativan for the nausea, I should have given her that when I gave her the pill. The wound still looks nasty, but when the Doctor called this morning she talked me through what constitutes healing and she seems to be doing that. Finally at 6PM I made her eat a piece of toast with cottage cheese on it. That was the first thing she's eaten today.

Glynis - Hope the pancakes work out and yes, please let me know. And I hope you've got a resolution to the heating!

Becky - Those pizzas looked FANTASTIC! Have you ever tried putting a 'sweet' topping on them? One of the local restaurants here puts peaches and white chocolate on their pizza bases and sells it as dessert.

Marisa - Glad that Kady's feeling better.

Nancy - Thanks for asking about my DH. His stomach's been rather 'delicate' since the middle of the year. It's getting much better but every so often, he just feels like a little petal and wilts. :sad1:

Ellen - Glad you came in to touch base. I've missed seeing you around.

Robin - Sorry about the spoon size mix-up. I really should have remembered that I use a different spoon size for Asian cooking earlier!

Brandi - nice looking meatballs. Wish DH would eat meat! :headache:

Lindsay - Glad the singing went well. Well...if you need help on the BB codes, either Jen or I can help out...just ask.

Janice - A few Dis-sers have been complaining about AT&T lately. Hope you'll get the computer back soon so that you're back posting.

Aimee - Does it cool down where you are? We're having a very changeable spring here. One day heating, the next day A/C and now back to heating.

Alison - Hope Fran is better by the time you read this.

Jen - I don't think we have Mexicorn here. What is it? Is it like a creamed corn?

It's Tuesday night here. Dinner was the standard baked spud. We're back into school and work routines here. But I'm already looking at the calendar towards Christmas.
Last year, my FiL was ill and passed away; so I didn't do my usual Christmas baking. I've missed the baking last year and am keen to get some done this year.

I'm going to have to start looking at working out when to make my Christmas cakes. My aunt that lives in SD gave me a recipe for a Bourbon Fruit Cake. Its from the South and some of you may be familiar with it. This cake freezes and make a great homemade gift to give to family and friends.
The other thing I do is make jam. I'm hoping that strawberries will be plentiful and reasonably cheap this year. It's been a couple of years since I last made jam and my stock is completely empty.

Anyway, have a good day all. I'm interested to see what y'all do for Christmas. Maybe we can have a whole host of Christmas cake recipes for this thread...if you haven't done it before.

Morning, everyone! Today I am making meatloaf, garlic mashed potatoes, and a vegetable to be decided later. I am also going to whip up some cream biscuits later, just for the heck of it.

Morning! I'm getting ready to start waking the monsters... I mean children up. I think they'll be very happy for Daylight Savings!

Dinner last night was quite good. I made the lasagna posted on Our Best Bites. I'll include the recipe, if anyone wants it. I chose it because it didn't have any peppers in it, very light on a chunky tomato feel, and mostly because I had everything on hand to make it! It was so good! It was very mild, and quite a bit sweeter than I had expected. I'm sure it's because of the carrots. The kids quite liked it.

Dinner tonight will be a tuna casserole and a green salad or broccoli, if I have any.

Princess - I love Christmas baking!!! I usually start making my cookies the first week in November, and freezing the dough so I can just pop them in the oven when I'm ready to bake. It makes them all taste fresh, but saves on work and exhaustion, closer to the holidays. I also like to bake my mom's pumpkin bread. That just says "Christmas" to me! This year, for Thanksgiving, I've been given permission to make my gingerbread trifle, as my SIL is making pumpkin pie!!! I'm ridiculously excited about that!!! I'd love to start sharing some Christmas/Thanksgiving recipes!!!

OK I am ready for you to share....

Pumpkin bread sounds wonderful, can I get that one right now... I have pumpkin I need to use! Please.....

Becky: I grill everything I can. But my grill broke a few weeks ago. I guess the heat disbursing thing broke, and the flames were out of control. So I finally got Jeff to order the part. He has been trying to find it cheap at Sears, Home Depot and driving all over to find it. Turns out Sears online had it for $20. So hopefully I can get grilling again! I grill all winter!

I am not liking being without my computer at home. pirate: I am really hating AT&T.

Thanks all for the birthday wishes.

This computer ordeal is taking forever to fix :sad2:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :cheer2: Sorry I missed it!

Fran is recovering, the wound is starting to heal up nicely, but she's not doing so good. I guess she is resting, but she mostly sleeps, can't even stay awake to eat. I made summer salad (will post later) and I gave her a bowl of it, she kept falling asleep as she was trying to eat it. She's been in her recliner for about 2 1/2 hours and has been asleep moaning and groaning as she breathes.

It's been five hours since her last morphine, so I better go wake her to take a pill.

I hope she gets better soon! :sad1: I hope you are taking care of yourself also

Okay, I can't watch Paranormal Activity. I don't know how you did it!

So glad Kady's better.

Here's how I watched it.... take a napkin, cover your eyes with it, and stay that way for the whole movie :sad1::sad2:

So, I got up this morning to a dense fog advisory. It's still dark when I leave for work and visibility was near zero this morning. People were going about 35 on the highway. :scared1: I did make it to work (thankfully) and the fog stuck around until about noon. And then it burned off and got up to almost 90! :faint: Thursday it's only supposed to be about 60 with lows in the 40's. :headache:

And here I am getting ready for winter... It was 38 when i left the house this morning and the high is mid 50's today :cold:

:worship:Glynis you changed my cookie baking forever! Last year I made so many different kinds of dough and froze them ahead of time, that baking was a breeze. I made one kind of cookie dough, rolled into balls and put onto a cookie sheet. Then I froze them for about 30 minutes, then put them into quart sized ziplock bags and wrote the cooking instructions on the bag. That way I just had to put 12 cookie balls on the cookie sheet and bake, no dishes!!!

I would love to do a recipe exchange!!!

Tonight is Taco night. Kady has an early release from school, and Jeff is picking her up off the bus and walking to Highland Park grocery store to get the few items I need. We live 1/4 mile from the center of town, so they love walking to the grocery store together :lovestruc In the center there is the grocery store, 2 chinese restaurants, 2 pizza restaurants, library, 3 banks, CVS, and two package stores. I love having so many things so close!!

Thanks for all the well wishes for Kady. She is 100 % and she went to the gym with me last night and even did 30 minutes on the eliptical machine!!

Have a great day everyone!

I'm happy to pass along my mom's recipes! They are a treasure to me, and I hope to other people, as well.

Pumpkin Bread
3 large loaves

4 C. sugar
4 C. pumpkin (1 large can)
1 C. oil
5 C. flour
4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 C. raisins
1 C. nuts, optional

Mix together the sugar, pumpkin and oil. Add the flour, baking soda, salt, spices, raisins and nuts. Grease 3 large loaf pans and fill half full with batter. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Loaves will rise!

This makes a really large batch, but it's pretty easy to cut down. If you haven't tried pumpkin bread with raisins, do yourself a favor and try it! They are amazing together. If, however, you are opposed to raisins, you can use currants, or even chocolate chips.

We like to make these for neighbor gifts at Christmas. Makes the house smell incredible.

Risa - I'm so glad that you enjoyed my baking tips! It sure takes the dread out of Christmas cookie baking, huh? Did I ever post my recipe for Mystery Cookies? They turned out to be the neighborhood kids favorite cookie last year, and when they found out the secret ingredient, they were amazed. Let me know if you want that recipe!

I am so gonna make this!

Thanks so much for sharing!

I'm not Risa, but I would LOVE your mystery cookie recipe. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for sharing your Mom's Pumpkin bread with us. That is so sweet of you.

Janice ~ I have missed you. Hope you are back up and running real soon.

Jen ~ the roast was amazing - I will post the recipe. You just gotta try it.

Alison ~ Poor dear Fran. I sure hope she gets to feeling better and can come out of her drug fog. As soon as that happens she will start feeling better and able to eat some.

PIO ~ Funny you should ask about Christmas as I was starting to think about different things just last night. Yes we all will share recipes, crafts, games and traditions. It's so fun to see what differences we all have.

Brandi ~ yes I would be in for a recipe exchange.

Marisa ~ I love your idea on the frozen dough balls. What a neat idea, thanks.

Well ladies the roast last night was a great hit. Doug moaned all through dinner. :lmao:

Crockpot Roast

In the bottom of the crockpot empty 1 package of dry onion soup mix. Place your roast on top (I used an arm roast - probably 3 lbs.) on top of the roast empty a can of jellied (not whole berry) Cranberry sauce (don't worry that you don't like cranberries, because it doesn't taste anything like them). Cover and cook on low 8 - 10 hours.
OH MY GOODNESS Ladies this was fall apart tender and oh so flavorful. I took the drippings and made a wonderful gravy for the mashed potatoes.

The weather has taken a turn for the cold today. There are even winter storm warnings in the panhandle for tonight - 4 -5 inches of snow. :scared1: I am so not ready for winter and the ice and snow. If I could stay home and not be out in it I love it, but since I have to be out in it I don't like it one bit.

I would also be really interested in a cookie exchange. Oh how fun!!

Just an FYI ~ Matthew's FB status went from single to in a relationship yesterday. We haven't meet the girl yet but Matthew has met her parents. It is so good to see my boy happy again. Ali (his HS girl - they went together for 4 1/2 years) really did a number on him so I am glad to see he is letting his heart be out there again. He is :cloud9: so all is good.

WFDT ~ Ham and beans are in the crockpot and I will make some cornbread when I get home.

Make it a great day everyone.

Aimee- Donny's condo needs to have the AC repaired. he is planning on renting it and I think Buddy's cousin's Uncle is taking it. Donny told me that he was okay without AC but he could not leave an elderly man in the heat. This poor guy has it tough. His wife is suffering from Alzheimer's and his income has been shattered. He has to walk away from his home and is devastated. DOnny is taking a loss but he thinks it is worth it to have someone he trusts in there.

I hope it's a cheap fix, esp since he's already doing so much to help the new renter out.

The restaurant is Del Frisco's. I know it's a chain, but we ate at the one in Ft. Worth and it was awesome! We went to the one in Vegas last January and it did not disappoint! There's one in Dallas, but it didn't get nearly as good of reviews as the Ft. Worth restaurant. Coming from So Cal that's not much of a drive for us.

Psst - I live in Fort Worth. Del Frisco's is good, though there are a few "local" steak spots we hit up more often.

I'm so sorry she's in such bad shape. Being a caregiver is hard work - *hugs* to you.

Aimee - Does it cool down where you are? We're having a very changeable spring here. One day heating, the next day A/C and now back to heating.

Yes - just not as early as my friends in the north, or for as long. It's typically cold Dec-Febish around here. We got major ice last year, for about 5 days, right when the Superbowl was here (so February) - shut everything down.

We could be in shorts on Christmas Day, or we could be building snowmans. Never know!

When it causes a FB relationship status, you know it's serious  I hope you get to meet her soon!!

Tonight we're having Huli Huli Chicken, a Hawaiian dish made in the crockpot and served over rice. It sounded good, and smelled good this morning, so I hope it's a hit!

Afternoon all.

Ellen- :scared1: SNOW!

Recipe exchange sounds good. I really have to step it up this year and get cookie stuff started earlier. I also have some good recipes for spiced nuts I want to try.

Last year for Christimas dessert I made Pumpkin Bread Pudding, a Bobby Flay recipe. It was a huge hit as were Paula Deans Gooey Chocolate Butter Cookies.

I am thinking of using mint chocolate chips and mint cocoa mix in my Hot Cocoa Cookies w/ Marshmallows.

I have not baked for the last two years, my schedule has been so crazy! But this year I want to get started early and make my family fat! :rotfl:

PIO- Some Cape Cod pictures, you've inspired me to keep my camera handy!

Coast Guard Station watching over the "Graveyard of the Atlantic"

It was so windy, the wind was blowing water of the crest of the wave.

Marilyn- I love to try different spiced nuts, but I always end up going back to the same recipe.

Aimee- Can't wait to here how the chicken is, I need to add to my crockpot recipes.

Ellen- Can you really not tell there is cranberry sauce? It sounds so easy, but a little scary! I like cranberries, but I don't like cranberry sauce.

PIO- I'd love to hear what you do and make for Christmas. I'm so nosey when it comes to Christmas, always looking for new ideas.

Allison- Hope Fran is doing well today. Sounds like you made the right choice to go to Disney in December, besides, now your trip isn't almost over!

I think we might have enough leftovers in the fridge for dinner.

Jen- I don't really use a recipe for onion soup, but this is what I do...
Slice a lot of onions, enough to fill up the pot. Cook for at least an hour, low and slow. Sometimes I add a little wine or beer, last night I used a splash of balsamic vinegar and deglased the pan. A sprinkle of thyme and a 50/50 mix of beef and chicken broth. Cook it for a while. I puree it (mostly) with an immersion blender. My husband used to not like the texture of cooked onions (I've sinced fixed that flaw of his) but he liked the taste. We both ended up liking the soup better pureed.
I toast a piece of bread, then top with swiss cheese and broil it. I don't do it right on the bowl because the bowl is a pain to clean broiled cheese off of and we don't have a dishwasher. Hope that helps.

I was able to make about 7 or 8 different kinds of cookies and when I was ready, I baked a few dozen each night. I have to decide what kinds I am making this year!! I WOULD LOVE THE RECIPE!!

I'm not Risa, but I would LOVE your mystery cookie recipe. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for sharing your Mom's Pumpkin bread with us. That is so sweet of you.

If you want to be me for a day, I would love to have the day off, go to the spa, out for coffee, stuff like that!! :rotfl:

I am glad that Matt is in a relationship!!:lovestruc

We went apple picking on Saturday and have 20 pounds of apples. We got Ida Reds and Empire. I need recipes ladies!!! What do y'all have for apple stuff!!

I have not baked for the last two years, my schedule has been so crazy! But this year I want to get started early and make my family fat! :rotfl:

Last year I just made a couple of things and brought them in to work on trays, usually I make individual bags, this year I am going to get back to that.

Marilyn- I love to try different spiced nuts, but I always end up going back to the same recipe.

I have never made them before so we shall see how this goes. :rotfl:

This one below is simple and easy. You could sub orange juice for the soda and I used bigger pieces of apple, quarters rather than eighths.
