The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Hi ya'll. I'm hopelessly behind here. Its been insane busy at work and I haven't been on the computer at home in the evenings. I'm gonna try to get caught up but wanted to just say hi.

Im gonna tell youse about my moms angel/sign moment...a wee bit long but please stick with it.
Im not sure if I ve told youse this before but even if I have it makes me smile to share it again.

We lost my dad almost 10 years ago.

He was a typical old school blue collar worker.

Showed how much he loved his family by working hard and providing, not so big on the laughs and hugs......

Then he discovered WDW.

My dad was a different person there.

He didn't ride many rides he just soaked up the place.

He so got the magic and the magic got him.

Anyways our first family trip back without him was very hard.

We decided the best way to deal with it was to point out fun times we had had with dad as we went round the parks.

On our last night Colin and i took the boy to get some character Autographs in Toon Town and my mom sat on a bench way round back waiting.

She got a wee bit teary sitting herself.

Then she felt some one sit next to her.

It was Donald...my dads favourite character.

We always joked they were so similar...as in moody and grumpy.

He took my mums hand and just sat with her.

He then just got up and walked away......leaving a white feather on the bench.

To help the kids remember my dad we told them if they find a white feather it is one of Grandads Angel feathers and he must have been watching them.

Im not big on the whole religion thing but I do believe in angels and that the people we love and lose are forever with us...

Oh Vickie ~ I loved your story. My makeup is now a mess, but what a wonderful story. And people just don't understand why we go back to WDW over and over again. This IS why. Thanks my friend - I needed that today.

Vickie, Love that!

Sheryl and Kat - I just remembered my dream from last night.

I was making breakfast and you both knocked on my door to tell me you could not wait to meet me again and spend time with me in October.I said well your here now so why dont ye come in but you said no,no we have to get back ower the water,I was saying, what,no,come in but youse just smiled waved and ran away.

OKAY I AM DONE WITH THIS AND IT HASN'T EVEN STARTED!!!!!!!!!!

Someone just told me that there is the possibility of 36 to 42 INCHES!!! WTH!!!! :scared1: :scared::faint::faint:

And I may have my DN's for the weekend, make that entire next week. :rotfl: My sister is supposed to leave tomorrow for Chicago for a travel agent convention and her DH leaves early Sunday for a golf one in CA. I was supposed to go to their house but they are calling for the snow to start here tomorrow morning and I would not be able to get to VA, I have to be at work tomorrow, especially now if the above is true.

Marilyn- Glad you have the storm neccesities. And what if the power goes out, chips and dip you can prepare without electricity, makes sense to me..

I have a full tank on the grill too! :thumbsup2 Just have to dig a tunnel to it and I am all set. :rotfl:

Marilyn -- Please do not send all of that snow our way!

I was always taught to share! ;) Hopefully it will lose some of it's punch by the time it gets there.

Im am so beyond happy it is just ridiculous.

That's great!

I think I'll go sit in the corner and cry now! :rotfl:

Sheryl – I heard about the parade about a week ago online somewhere. All I can seem to find is the Super Bowl MVP has a parade at DHS on the Monday following the Super Bowl.

They definitely do this....I remember when Tom Brady was in the Magic Kingdom parade after the Patriots won. I did not see it in person, but I saw pictures.

Vickie, congrats on booking the vacation! I liked your story also.

I am home now after my dentist appointment...it was so funny because I walked in and there were Liam, Caili, and Laura! The kids both had cleanings today too. I did not realize. So we got to visit, and we all got perfect reports too. I don't have any cavities in my mouth at all...my dentist says that I am very lucky! I think it must have been the flouride in the water when I was a kid.

Anyway, here is a picture of last night's dinner.

Still not sure on what I am making for dinner tonight. I suppose I should get off the computer and figure that out.

We came ower the water & then just left! :confused3  The rest of the dream was correct! We are really excited to get to spend time with you again in October!!!:dance3::banana:

I remember the parade now! Too bad we'll miss it by just a week. Although I think if we win, this city is going to be one happy rockin place!

Yummy! What is it? Peas, paneer? What kind of sauce? It sure looks good!

Marilyn, I'm really sorry about the snow!

Now you know that was a dream, we would have never turned down breakfast!

It's okay Sheryl, I do get to spend some quality time with my DN's at least. I am just a little stressed because I have a lot to do at work next week and if it's as bad as they are predicting I may not be able to get here in time to get it ready. I am just going to get everything that absolutely has to be done finished between today and tomorrow morning and then I can relax and enjoy the forced vacation. :rotfl:

A really funny thing. We are allowed to carry over a certain amount of vacation time, anything over has to be used or lost. I just got notice yesterday that I have a lot of hours that need to be used by April 30th. Looks like I may be able to do that! :rotfl:

Kat, sorry your still under the weather. Better this week & not next.

Vic, can't wait to hear how your nephew is doing. Bless him.
WL is one of my favorite resorts. If it wasn't for F&W we would be staying there.
I would love to upgrade to a one bedroom so we could "entertain" while there.....we shall see.

Ellen, thank you for the thoughts, your the best.

Gretchen, I miss you.

Marilyn, stay safe in the storm.

Laura, I don't remember if I posted CONGRATULATIONS to Caili or just thought it...Holy Pills!

Lauren, prayers for peace. Also prayers for your brother to be comfortable & pain free.

Aimee, hope you resting.

Not sure if I will be flying Friday morning with the storm headed this way:confused3

NOLA girls I just received an email for a cruise sailing from NOLA!!!! Just 3 nights but really cheap!!!!!! Could I convince anyone they "need" to go";)

Thank you for all the prayers for my Aunt Joan.....I spoke to her this morning & she sounded calmer & I know prayers work miracles.

My story is about my Gram......when she passed I was broken. My Mom & I lived with my "MumMum & PopPop since I was 8 months old when my Dad died.
Anyway she believed that an open window could cause me to get a cold or chest cold (bronchitis) & I was often sick as a child. She would come into my room day or night & shut the window no matter what the weather was outside.
She died in July.....the windows were usually opened especially at night. For many nights the window would close & I just knew it was her & it gave me great comfort. One night the window closed & it startled me so I asked her to leave the window opened because it could scare me in the middle of the night. After I had my chat with my MumMum she never closed the window for me again.
Now when I miss her terrible I will see a butterfly......I told our priest & he reminded me that at her funeral mass he explained that "MumMum" was now a butterfly..... that life on earth was just a way to get ready for your wings to open and your time ahead in paradise.

I'm thinking of all of you but this dentist appointment was horrible so the medication has begun, I have another trip to the dentist in 2 weeks. I have a ligament that is swollen & painful around a tooth & need oral surgery. Who knew teeth had ligaments?

Dinner for me was wonton soup, Greg had chicken & cashews from a local Chinese take out.

Maria- sounds like a very painful dentist visit. I also did not know that teeth had ligaments. Ouch!

We did go out tonight but the man-cold was in full swing. I was reminded several times that he did soldier through a (half) day at work and was now at Target even thought he was "sick." And when I wanted to run into one more store he chose to wait in the car and "rest." And for the record this is one of the mildest colds I have witnessed and I think the term sick is quite a stretch. Of course I thought all of this in my head while making the appropriate sympathetic comments to him.

Maria - Awesome story, thanks for sharing it with us. I'm so sorry your dentist appt sounded awful, who knew teeth had ligaments.

Michelle - Thanks for making me laugh tonight, too funny and boy can I relate.:rotfl2:

Ugh===The new fb is being a PITA this post was meant for there but I am putting it here so you know I have not forgot about anyone, I will keep trying there as well...xxoo(this issue is just the cherry on my day)

I had a really really rough day....am beyond exhausted, but just wanted to pop in and say I am so happy to see that Aimee posted. She better be resting. I will send a text tomorrow afternoon if we don't see another post from her.

I will catch up tomorrow, I am going nowhere until it is time to go and Chaperone(sp?) the school dance, along with our local Sheriff office (for those who didn't see my status yesterday Ross school had a bomb threat at it....my stress level is peeked).

I am pouring a triple (yes that bad of a day) Jack and diet and going to veg on the cough for a bit.
I love you all and am praying for all especially those who need special ones said.

Sheryl I am so so sorry for Mrs Margie and family.
Lauren--You amaze me...I am so proud you are my friend. Much love to you.
Kat--How are you feeling? I am very worried about you!

Nite all I am so sorry that I am not being a good friend and catching up tonight....

Marilyn, I hope you can get all of your work done & use a couple of those vacation days to stay inside! :wizard:

Maria, Loved the "Mum Mum" story. We have a butterfly in our family too. The priest gave a similar talk at my FIL's funeral, then there was a butterfly at the burial & they continued be around quite often, for months after.

I'm really sorry you had such a bad dental visit! Prayers that you feel better tomorrow. Sad for you that you will need oral surgery.:flower3:
So this cruise are you coming with??!

Michelle, I'm just so so sorry! Is there anything worse that the man with the man-cold pushing through it for his wife?! Ugh. ;)

Nancy, I hope that olive salad arrived today.

Good news, Missy A got a 102 A+ on the practice spelling test today! I thought she had some really hard words. Getting an A on the practice test exempts them from the "real" test tomorrow & gives them free time during the test.

Wendie, I'm sad that you are so stressed out. The dance will be fine! Are bomb scares that rare these days? We had them all the time, when I was in middle & high school! You are a good friend, don't think otherwise!

Ellen -- What play is Doug doing? Greg and I met doing community theater (Once Upon a Mattress ) but I haven't been in anything since having kids.

Vickie -- I am so excited for you. You will love WL! I haven't stayed there, but I've visited. I loved your story. And you are funny!

Honestly, if a friend came to my door I wouldn't want to let them in.

I feel like that most days. The problem with these projects is that my house looks a lot worse for a lot longer than it looks good when the project is finished.

Glynis -- You are a much better person than I am. Good luck this weekend!

Michelle -- I'm so sorry you are dealing with the man cold. I did laugh at your shopping excursion. I had a similar experience with Greg. I think all our husbands need a weekend with a cold and sick kids to care for to cure them of this nonsense. Although I wouldn't put it past the husbands making the kids take care of them.

Looks like we will be going this month, so I'll have a WL report for ya!

Did you decide to keep the trip afterall?

Marilyn -- That is a crazy amount of snow. We don't want it here!! ;)

Maria -- My grandparents were Mommom and Poppop too. My mom is Mommom to my kids. I'm sorry you are going through so much with your teeth. I hope everything is resolved soon.

I've had quite a few dreams involving my grandparents, but my favorite was when I introduced Liam and Caili to my Mommom. She never got the chance to meet them because she died when I was in high school. She doesn't visit my dreams very often, but I think she did then because she wanted to let me know she was still paying attention and she wanted to let me know she was looking out for me and the kids.

Dinner tonight was a bunch of different things: steak, wild rice, spinach, roasted pepper and onions, refried beans, and varied sauces. Liam had a bean and cheese burrito with wild rice and spinach. Caili had steak with teriyaki sauce and wild rice and spinach. I had a steak fajita with the peppers and onions, plus some refried beans, spinach and wild rice on the side.

I'm really sorry you had such a bad dental visit! Prayers that you feel better tomorrow. Sad for you that you will need oral surgery.:flower3:
So this cruise are you coming with??!
!

OH YES!!!!!!!!

Yeah for Miss "A"!!!! 102 is amazing:goodvibes

Laura, I love wild rice, I never think of making it.

Kat, how do you feel tonight?

Wendie, please don't fret.......

They definitely do this....I remember when Tom Brady was in the Magic Kingdom parade after the Patriots won. I did not see it in person, but I saw pictures.

They did it last year too. We were there and didn't find out about it until the day after or we would have gone.

Back from getting the girls. It's getting really cold out.

:cheer2::cheer2:Congrats to Alexis & Caili!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

-----

WFD- we never got our takeout fish & chip last week so that is what DH wants tonight.

Yummy! What is it? Peas, paneer? What kind of sauce? It sure looks good!

Yes, peas and paneer in a basic curry sauce. I have the leftovers in my laptop lunch for today. We'll have to see what the TSA dogs think.

Here's last night's dinner. Mozarella spedini in bagna cauda with a salad:

Good morning!

I'm feeling a bit better today and the weather seems to be improving by the hour.

Wendie – Hoping you have a better day today, you are a good friend.

Sheryl - Congrats to Miss A, great job!!!!

Mardi Gras parades start tonight so Kyle will be coming in this afternoon!:goodvibes Johnny & I will probably head out for dinner, we don't do parades anymore.

Geez, I just checked the weather forecast for our trip next week....rain the first three days....:sad1:
