The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I went to a weather watcher site because I saw the snow back in teh forcast for Saturday. Now you know I have big food plans for Sunday so I need to know................. and saw that doozy coming your way! Get your errands done, it looks huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems to get worse by the hour. We are all breaded, milked and TP'd! :thumbsup2 I got chips and a spinach, artichoke hummus at Costco tonight. I always want chips and dip to be snowed in with.

Just spoke with Lauren again, she's doing as well as can be expected. She did get a call today that her brother has gotten worse so they anticipate a few days at the most. She honestly feels that her Mom went before her brother so she could be there to welcome him and now he knows he can let go. She also said that she has been asking her Mom for a sign that she's OK and the baby started blowing kisses today, how awesome is that.:goodvibes

Lauren wanted me to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.

Back to the couch for me.......

Awwww.

Got dinner tonight at On The Border. Food was good but the service wasn't very good. He did apologize and gave us a free dessert, soppapilas, they were sooooooo good! And now I am stuffed and really sleepy.

:lmao::lmao: Chips and dip. I don't know what I'd want. I haven't been snowed in for awhile. I need to go check the weather report because I can't believe how much snow you're getting! I haven't checked the weather much lately. Apparently we have a flood watch for tomorrow.

wfd I have no idea I'm working late so hopefully my husband will get home before me and whip something up Have a good day Joanne

Morning all,

I have alot of errands this morning, then to my parents for lunch. A friend I use to work with at the bank is coming by to visit before supper.

I am going to make something quick I can throw together once she leaves.

Right now I am thinking pork chops.

Have a great day all!

Sheryl - I'm glad the ribs ended up good! Obviously Bob loved them. If I ever try again, I'm going to use Becky's method and make them a day ahead. Kenny enjoyed the last batch I made, but (Warning - TMI) they really did a number on our stomachs.

Ann - Have fun with your friend from work!

Kat - How are you feeling this morning?

Tonight's dinner is hamburgers and tater tots - Amanda' request.

Gretchen- That my concern about the ribs too. Besides, I have enough fat of my own, I don't need to buy any!

Ann- Have fun visiting with your friend!

Marilyn- Glad you have the storm neccesities. And what if the power goes out, chips and dip you can prepare without electricity, makes sense to me.

Kathy- Hope they win and you are there for the parade. We were there one of the years the patriots one and it was the only year they didn't do the parade. Thanks for updating us on Lauren, I'm glad her guys are able to make her smile during this time.

Maria- Sorry you have to go back to the dentist, one step closer to being done!

Lauren and her family are in my thoughts.

Hope Aimee is resting comfortably.

I'm sure I missed something. Off to have breakfast so my brain can function. Not sure on dinner yet, but I did buy some rosemary yesterday so I'm sure it will involve rolls. Enjoy the day all.

Sooooo disappointed my girlfriend just called to cancell. She has to work mandatory OT...I don't miss those days. I was really looking to a need gossip session over coffee with her.

/
I tried to post last night, but I guess it disappeared. :confused3

Wendie -- Thanks for letting us know about Aimee. I hope she is resting comfortably today.

Lauri -- I'm sorry you are likely headed for another surgery.

Marilyn -- Please do not send all of that snow our way!

Kathy -- Thank you for the update on Lauren. That is so sweet about the baby kisses.

I really enjoyed all of the stories everyone shared.

Kathy -- I hope you are feeling better today. That would be so cool to see that parade!

And don't even get me started on trying to schedule visits to avoid falling asleep in the car... I seem to get no sympathy or understand on that one.

I never got any either, so I completely understand.

Gretchen -- Your comment about the couscous made me laugh. I don't think the short ribs would agree with my stomach either.

Not sure on dinner yet, but I did buy some rosemary yesterday so I'm sure it will involve rolls.
 You are addicted. You may need an intervention.

Nancy -- I think I may have been a bit ambitious in my project this week. I went to start putting up the shelves in the closet I am turning into a pantry and they don't fit. I measured, but I forgot to bring the paper with the numbers on it with me to the store. That means I have to return everything and find new ones that will fit. How many days do I have to clear the piles before I have a problem?

Liam has a dentist appointment this afternoon, so I'm not sure on dinner yet. It will depend what time we get back here.

I love all the stories you all have shared! I, too, believe in signs. When my twins were tiny, about 2 weeks old, Alan took the other kids to my SIL's to give me some quiet time with the babies. At first I was fine. The girls were good, and I began to be sure I could handle 2 babies at once. Then, Mary needed to be fed. I began to nurse her and Leslie began to cry. I was in panic mode! Leslie began to scream, and I couldn't get to her, and continue to nurse Mary. I hadn't gotten the hang of nursing 2 at one time, and I was at my wit's end. Leslie began to get purple in the face, and I just turned my eyes heavenward, and said, "Please, I need help. I can't do this alone!" In the blink of an eye, Leslie went from screaming to laughing... at 2 weeks! I couldn't believe it. I looked at her, and she was focused on a spot in the corner of the ceiling. She was cooing, giggling and happy as could be. I felt the hairs on my arms raise, and I KNEW my FIL was there! I thanked him for helping me in my time of need, and I felt such a feeling of love surround me.

Anyway, on to other matters. Alan and I are babysitting our 5 nieces and nephews today thru Saturday. It should be interesting. These kids are very disrespectful of other people, and property, so I'm no too sure how things will go. I'm making a huge pan of tuna casserole for them, and Alan and I will have tuna salad. Wish me luck, that I make it through this weekend with my sanity intact!

My love to you all, and if I don't get on again until Sunday, you'll know it's because I'm policing my house for destruction and mayhem!

Marilyn – Glad you’re stocked up on your essentials.;) Stay safe.

Joanne – Thanks for posting the recipe…I love easy!!!!!

Gretchen – Still feeling yucky, stayed home today. The weather is so nasty I’ll probably vegetate on the couch all day.

Glynis – God bless you, I’ll be praying for you.

WFD – Grilled veal chops with a peppercorn sauce, scallion sweet potatoes and a spinach salad.

Aimee ~ I hope you are in no pain this morning and are on your way to a much better way of life. Prayers are with you.

Wendie ~ Thanks so much for updating us on Aimee. What a good friend.

Lauren ~ my prayers continue to be with you. Your T is quite the baby. I love his kisses from heaven.

Kat ~ Thanks so much for letting Lauren know we are all here for her. I hope you get to feeling better today.

Lauri ~ I am so sorry you have to have surgery. Enough is enough my friend.

Marilyn ~ It is snowing here again today also. Let's the both of us run away to Hawaii. I can be packed in an hour. ;)

Gretchen ~ I think Amanda picked a great menu for tonight.

Maria ~ I have been holding your very close my dear friend. My heart is so with you!!

Robin ~ Have you posted these wonderful rolls? If so I have missed it and need to go find it. They sound delish!!

Nancy ~ Have a good day my friend

Ann ~ Sorry to hear you won't get your gossip in today. Shoot!!

Joanne~ Thanks for the easy recipe. I am saving that on to do real soon.

Bethany ~ Got your boots out? You may need them.

Glynis ~ My lord girl what were you thinking? My prayers are with you. Somehow I know it will all be ok. You are "OUR" super mom! :worship:

I loved all of your stories. I so wish I had one to share, but I don't. And I have never understood why I don't. My Mother and I were VERY close. There wasn't a Mother/daughter closer. Since she has passed I keep trying to get a sign, something, anything but so far I haven't. We are a Christian family and I do believe in signs. I just don't understand it.

Well it it snowing today. It was a mess getting Ethan to school and me to work this morning. The roads are an ice rink. Yuck!!!

I am on my own tonight AGAIN!! Doug is in our Community play. He has one of the lead roles and it is crunch time. Their opening night is Feburary 13th. So they are practicing every night (except Wednesday) at 5:30 - 9:00. It makes for some long nights alone. I will be glad when it is over. I don't like being alone so much. And I really don't like eating by myself, plus I tend to eat not very healthy. He really loves it so I don't complain to him - just all of you. ;) Thanks for letting me whine once again.

So with that being said - I am making American Chop Suey for dinner tonight. Doug HATES it - so I am making it for me tonight. :dance3:

Make it a great day my dear friends.

I am glad that Aimee is out and doing well.

Joanne, the lunchboxes are called laptop lunches. They have a website, if you google laptop lunches it will come up.

I enjoyed reading everyone's stories from yesterday.

Lauri, sorry to hear that you might have to have more surgery. Hopefully you will be feeling better soon.

Kathy, that would be really cool if you get to see a Saints super bowl parade at Disney! I am rooting for the Saints because I don't like Peyton Manning at all.

Last night it turns out that Laura and I had the same dinner: indian food. I made mutter paneer, pulao, and naan. I took a picture but have not uploaded it yet.

This afternoon I have a dentist appoinment (no troubles like poor Maria, just a regular cleaning), and then a hair appointment, so dinner will be something I can assemble between the two. Maybe some kind of sandwich.

Have a good day, all.

Love your ticker!!!!!:cool1:

Im sooo excited Kat.

I cant wait to meet you all again,we are gonnae have a blast !!

After dinner he said that his friend & boss Brian would love this. I told him I make them a big lunch plate. He said "Heck NO! Keep that for us!" ;)

:rotfl2:

Love yer Bob !!

How many days do I have to clear the piles before I have a problem?

.

You can get cream for that...:rolleyes1

She was cooing, giggling and happy as could be. I felt the hairs on my arms raise, and I KNEW my FIL was there! I thanked him for helping me in my time of need, and I felt such a feeling of love surround me.

Babys see angels,on doubt in my mind.

Beautiful.

I loved all of your stories. I so wish I had one to share, but I don't. And I have never understood why I don't. We are a Christian family and I do believe in signs. I just don't understand it.

.

I think you mom is watchin over you and just sitting back and admiring the wonderful job you are doing with your family.

As you can see with my ticker we are headin to WL !!

Our dilema with choosing resorts was made easier because my sister is pretty sure they cant make it.They are going to try and save and see what happens closer to the time.
Colin pretty much put his foot down ( he never does that,I was actually scared he might miss  ) and said to book WL because we have the money now and will NEVER have it again.

We struggle hard to get our 2 weeks at POP every 2 years so going 2 years running is exciting enough never mind the whole WL thing.

Im am so beyond happy it is just ridiculous.

I'm sure I missed something. Off to have breakfast so my brain can function. Not sure on dinner yet, but I did buy some rosemary yesterday so I'm sure it will involve rolls. Enjoy the day all.

And this is exactly why I won't try them. If they are so good you have made them repeatedly, then I KNOW I don't have the willpower to resist.

I certainly can't tell you. I have stuff piled on my dining room table to be sorted into the give away/keep bins and I don't even want to admit how long it has been there. Honestly, if a friend came to my door I wouldn't want to let them in. :rolleyes1 Hope your project comes out better than mine. :wizard:

Anyway, on to other matters. Alan and I are babysitting our 5 nieces and nephews today thru Saturday. It should be interesting. Good luck! It sounds like you'll need it. Bless you Glynis, bless you.

Gretchen – Still feeling yucky, stayed home today. The weather is so nasty I’ll probably vegetate on the couch all day.

The couch sounds like just where you need to be. Especially since you need to be well for your trip.

Marilyn ~ It is snowing here again today also. Let's the both of us run away to Hawaii. I can be packed in an hour. ;)

Wait for me!!!!! It isn't snowing here, but I'm sick of the cold, dreary days.

Colin pretty much put his foot down ( he never does that,I was actually scared he might miss  ) and said to book WL because we have the money now and will NEVER have it again.

That's great news Vickie! I know you will love it! I've never stayed there, but it's on my list. Such a pretty resort.

Glynis- good luck! You are a far braver and kinder woman than I am:)

DH was supposed to be home early from work and we were planning on running errands for a trip we're taking in a few weeks and then out to dinner. But... the man-cold struck last night! So who knows what he'll be up for when he gets home from work. I might be spending my night coddling a grown man with the sniffles.

Hey Y'all,
It's a nasty rainy day here! I'm only going back out to get the child from school!

Vickie, Yeah!:yay: Woohoo!:cool1: Love yer Colin!!! :lovestruc I'm so happy for you! Looks like we will be going this month, so I'll have a WL report for ya!

Ann, I'm sorry your friend cancelled!

Laura, Good luck with the pantry! & the piles! :lmao: Vickie is a hoot!

Marilyn, Sorry about the weather, stay safe!

Glad y'all enjoyed it! I didn't have too much trouble de-greasing. I picked out the leanest ones I could find at Whole Foods, but next time I'm going to do it a day ahead anyway.:thumbsup2

Well no wonder your ribs weren't greasy! Mine did not come from WF, but Laborie's!

Sheryl - I'm glad the ribs ended up good! Obviously Bob loved them. If I ever try again, I'm going to use Becky's method and make them a day ahead. Kenny enjoyed the last batch I made, but (Warning - TMI) they really did a number on our stomachs.

Tonight's dinner is hamburgers and tater tots - Amanda' request.

I do understand your TMI more than you know! I must have done a good job de-greasing because my stomach is good today!

How are you doing? How's Kenny and the kids?

I love all the stories you all have shared! I, too, believe in signs. She was cooing, giggling and happy as could be. I felt the hairs on my arms raise, and I KNEW my FIL was there! I thanked him for helping me in my time of need, and I felt such a feeling of love surround me.

Glynis, I love that story!!! Amazing!! God Bless You my friend! You are are a GOOD person! I'll be sending prayers to fight destruction & mayhem!

Gretchen – Still feeling yucky, stayed home today. The weather is so nasty I’ll probably vegetate on the couch all day.

WFD – Grilled veal chops with a peppercorn sauce, scallion sweet potatoes and a spinach salad.

Sorry you are still feeling bad! The weather is awful! I'm staying in & doing laundry. I'm really backed up on it.

What's this about a SuperBowl Parade in Disney???? They do that? That would be awesome!

DH was supposed to be home early from work and we were planning on running errands for a trip we're taking in a few weeks and then out to dinner. But... the man-cold struck last night! So who knows what he'll be up for when he gets home from work. I might be spending my night coddling a grown man with the sniffles.

Oh NOOOOooo! :scared1: Not the man cold!:hug:

Dinner tonight will be leftover short ribs.

I loved the stories, I have had a few "encounters" and feel blessed for them. My favorite aunt died when I turned 14. I adored her and was so sad when she passed. Anyway, we all went "back home" and got to my Uncle's home after dark. My Mom and Dad ran inside adn Gail and i were left in the car. I was looking at teh front wrap around porch and saw soem wicker furniture and some folks there and my aunt was with them. :confused3 Their clothes were very old fashioned and there was a baby. I described these peopleto my Mom who told me I had just described my Gramma and Grampa. Come to find out my Gramma had lost an infant. I really felt better to see her with them. WHen we lost my dad I found that I would look back to that vision when I missed him.

It seems to get worse by the hour. We are all breaded, milked and TP'd! :thumbsup2 I got chips and a spinach, artichoke hummus at Costco tonight. I always want chips and dip to be snowed in with.

I always stock up on goodies too.

Here's the recipe for the penne with sausage

YUM!

It must be a long time becasue I have some that are here and i am NOT going to tell you how long I have had them piled up

.

!

I would put a lock on my door and not answer the phone.....I do not envy you!

Since she has passed I keep trying to get a sign, something, anything but so far I haven't. We are a Christian family and I do believe in signs. I just don't understand it.

.

The signs come when you really need them. You know she is near but if you ever doubt or ever need some extra help she will let you know she is there. Donny lived with my Mom and her passing was not an easy one. He had that on his mind and had a very hard time worrying about her. Gail did as well. Anyway he said he had a dream and she was there in her chair looking like she did before all of teh steroids that she had been taking, laughing. She told him to stop worrying, she was fine. He said it was as if a huge weight had been lifted. He called Gail to tell her.

Good for Colin! You need to do what is the best thing for you!

I have chicken for dinner tonight. I am not sure how I am going to cook it, we'll see.

Ellen – I have to admit I’m relieved that I’m not the only one who hasn’t gotten a sign from my parents. I don’t get it either.

Vickie – I’m so excited for you! We need to come and visit y’all at WL. That’s one resort we’ve never been to.

Michelle – I so feel your pain.

Sheryl – I heard about the parade about a week ago online somewhere. All I can seem to find is the Super Bowl MVP has a parade at DHS on the Monday following the Super Bowl.

Im gonna tell youse about my moms angel/sign moment...a wee bit long but please stick with it.
Im not sure if I ve told youse this before but even if I have it makes me smile to share it again.

We lost my dad almost 10 years ago.

He was a typical old school blue collar worker.

Showed how much he loved his family by working hard and providing, not so big on the laughs and hugs......

Then he discovered WDW.

My dad was a different person there.

He didn't ride many rides he just soaked up the place.

He so got the magic and the magic got him.

Anyways our first family trip back without him was very hard.

We decided the best way to deal with it was to point out fun times we had had with dad as we went round the parks.

On our last night Colin and i took the boy to get some character Autographs in Toon Town and my mom sat on a bench way round back waiting.

She got a wee bit teary sitting herself.

Then she felt some one sit next to her.

It was Donald...my dads favourite character.

We always joked they were so similar...as in moody and grumpy.

He took my mums hand and just sat with her.

He then just got up and walked away......leaving a white feather on the bench.

To help the kids remember my dad we told them if they find a white feather it is one of Grandads Angel feathers and he must have been watching them.

Im not big on the whole religion thing but I do believe in angels and that the people we love and lose are forever with us...
