The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

How long a drive to Disney ?

Size and whats there, food and shops wise ?

Because we are flying international we need to be there hours before and need to keep the boy happy !!

About a 1.5 hour drive. Maybe a little less.

Smaller than the Orlando airport. Not sure what's out at the International gates. The airport has a central building for check in then has branches out (like a spider's legs) for gates. There's a few shops, but nothing overwhelming- that I can remember.

Security is out by the gates after you get off the tram so it's usually ALOT faster than MCO.

We always fly Southwest into there and the restaurant that's out by their gates has great clam chowder.... good clam chowder in Florida! Who knew?!?

One thing that's really cool though is you fly in right over the bay... Almost looks like the wheels are going to go into ther water!

Ellen, I was so happy to read Jay was safe and sound! :cool1:

Kat, so happy for you and Johnny. Lori, you are the woman!!! :cheer2:

Not really absorbing much tonight. My brain feels like mush!!! Home doing laundry and eating frozen pizza. I am waiting for DH to get home. I won't be on much longer tonight, I havent seen my guy all day.

We did find out today that my nephew who's wife is exxpecting in June is having a Boy. They are really excited.

Talk tomorrow my friends.

Please excuse this poor excuse for a friend.....

I havent read back but please know im sendin love and good vibes ower the water to all who need it !!

Aimee – Glad to hear you’re feeling somewhat better.

Ellen – Hoping for some sunshine for y’all soon!

Lori – Y’all be safe on your drive!

Wendie – I’ll be praying for you my friend, hoping you can get out of having them accompany y’all to the zoo. That sucks, but try and have a safe and wonderful trip!!

Lauren - Your dinner sounds really good! Glad to hear the doc said everything with T would be OK.

Marilyn – Hope you’re feeling better. Good grief, your poor friend’s son, what horrible luck.

Ann – Enjoy your guy tonight!

Lauren - Sorry to hear your brother has more complications.

Thank you girls for keeping Greg in your prayers.....I'm so nervous that he even mentioned the possibility.

Bethany...maybe a NYC mini-meet!:thumbsup2

I hope that Greg's job is safe.

I was HOPING someone would suggest another mini-meet! The dates are over on FB. I will be staying with a friend in Brooklyn.

Maria - I had to nix the NYC trip idea because I'm trying to find DVC points to rent for another Food & Wine trip in October, but so far no luck....:sad1:

Awww, it's okay Kathy. I see your ticker! :woohoo:

I haven't seen the sun in 4 days and it is starting to show. I need me my sun!!! We have ice fog. Never heard of that before, but I do know it is a mess out there this morning. Ethan was even late for school, as there is about an inch of ice on the roads and it is so foggy that you can see about 10 feet beyond the hood of the car. But I got him there and me to work so that is all that matters.

You all have a great day!!

:scared1: I would have stayed home.

One thing that's really cool though is you fly in right over the bay... Almost looks like the wheels are going to go into ther water!

I don't find this kind of landing "really cool". A lot of airports do that and I find it unnerving! LaGuardia is like that, JFK is similar, and the one here in New Orleans looks like you're about to land in a swamp. Incidentally, I am not fond of flying in and out of Denver. It's open prairie around the airport, but because of the mountains, they get a lot of strange wind patterns. The roughest landings and takeoffs I've had were at that airport

Hahaha...I swear the news just said "even though they were wearing ski masks, we think they're white and we believe the suspects are indigenous to the area." Really? Like...they're locals? :lmao:

P.S. The news also said we hit 78 degrees today, and it was SUNNY! That made me VERY happy!

I'd be happy to stop sharing the tummy germs, but I'd be even more happy to share the gourmet cooking "germs."

You and me both!

I am ready to scream--my father wants (him and HER) to join us when we go to Lowery Park Zoo!! I have to find a way out of this without being mean....my mother used to beg my father to take her and he wouldn't, now he wants to take HER?!!? Kris and I have been looking forward to this as we haven't been since Ross was 18months.

:headache: I hope you find a way out of it

Aimee- I still worry, no fever is good but Whoa Nellie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vicodion is not supposed to manage cronic pain. You are not supposed to have chronic pain!

Hopefully after surgery I won't need it anymore. He always has me keep a bottle at home and when I threw the last one out due to it being expired, I had taken just two. This time I keep refilling the sucker. BUT, it works, allows me to work and function, and allows me to eat.

Haven't read back yet but wanted to post because I'm so excited. Thanks to Lori (Bead Pirate) we're going to Food & Wine fest again this year!!!!!!!!:cool1::yay::dance3:

:yay:

It was a beautiful day here today... mid 70s and sunny. The chicken wings were really tasty and I used my mandoline slicer I got for Christmas tonight and LOVE it! My fried potatos were delicious and perfect!

Hello peoples. Didn't get my list done but did get a good amount finished and a few things not on there. :yay:

Got on to check the library website about a book. I have been looking all over the place for a book that was due back on the 13th. Happened to look in my DM's pile on the steps and there is was. :headache::mad:

We are getting freezing rain right now. Kind of hoping it sticks around long enough to cancel school tomorrow, they close early so it wouldn't take much to do it, then I won't have to work in a program and can get my reports done.

Quick Good Morning to everyone! Not sure about dinner. A is leaving for the weekend and Tom is coming home. I need to get the house in order today. I have slacked a bit this week.

Happy Birthday Glynis!!!

Vickie, I have flown in and out of Tampa too. The drive is fine...not too sure about the stores but if the boy knows he is going to WDW maybe he will find lots of books, etc. to keep him busy!

Have a great day all! BBL

Good morning!

Thank you Laura I picked up the book Dog on it at the library. I started reading it, it is sooo good.:thumbsup2

Lauren How are you doing?

Kathy Congrats on the new ticker. Fall trips are a thing of the past for us. The school calendar is just not disney friendly pirate:

When I get home tonight I have to start cleaning this house. Just a little picking up during the week is just not cutting it.

Not sure about dinner yet.

Janice, I am doing OK...I have my moments but I am fine. Thank you for asking.

I know I have said it before, but thank you all for your friendship. xoxo

OK, off to get the little one out of bed. I guess he is feeling better. He slept all night and is now happy as can be waking up.

Morning ladies!!!!

WFD- one pot pork chops with sliced potatoes and onions.

:flower3:Happy Birthday Glynis!!!!!!!! :flower3:

Wendie, enjoy the warm weather with your boys. Safe travels.

Thanks, Lauren and Ann! So far, it's a good one. Alan got up this morning, and is banging around in the kitchen to make me breakfast. I don't have the heart to tell him I don't usually eat this early. So, I guess I will, for him.

I do need to get the kids up and going, soon. I'm going bowling in a couple of hours, and then to run some errands. Don't know what Alan has planned for this afternoon/evening, but he told me to keep it open. We'll see.

The kids will be having some sort of pasta dish tonight. Something simple to fix, and that they will eat.

I'll BBL to let you know what Alan and I are doing for dinner!

GLYNIS!!!!!!! xo

Glynis - Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great dinner tonight!

Dinner tonight is with my NOLA friends!! I'm soo excited!

BBL to catch up!

Happy Birthday Glynis!! I hope your day is as special as you are my friend.

Wendie ~ Safe travels my dear, it will be ok and all work out. I just know it will!!

Lori ~ Safe travels home today. ;) Enjoy!! You are such a good friend to help Kat and Johnny like you did. Good for you!

Lauren ~ I am so glad to hear T is feeling better. YEA!!! on the sale of the house. April is a great time to move. I am so happy for you!

Kat ~ Yea on the ticker. You and Johnny will have a ball. I just might have to work on making it there this year. We just have to meet.

Nancy ~ THANKS!! from the bottom of my heart.

Marilyn ~ Is your headache better today? Wow, that is the pits about your BFF son. OUCH!!

Ann ~ Did you get to hug your guy last night? Have a good day.

Vickie ~ I also have flown into Tampa before and it's not a bad drive at all. I say go for it. Hey after 6 hours on a plane what is another 1 1/2. I have to drive 3 hours to the airport then fly all day to get to WDW. And it is always worth it. :thumbsup2

Bethany ~ You know you could be shot for bragging about the sun. I NEED me my sun and I had better get it SOON!!! But probably not today either. :rotfl2:

Janice ~ I hear you on the cleaning. I hate spending my weekends cleaning and I try to do a room every evening. This week it was a bit hard. ;)

Well today is day #5 with no sun. My happy, cheery mood is starting to head south. It is so foggy here this morning I can't even see the house across the street from my office. Kind spooky really. The wind is finally blowing and you would think it would blow the fog away. But it's not!!

Matthew is bringing Amy home to meet Doug and I tonight. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I am so happy for him, as he finally has a smile and a bit of a hitch to his step. I just can't wait to meet the girl who is responsible for it.

WFDT ~ Rump Roast, potatoes, carrots, gravy, peach salad, homemade dinner rolls and strawberry shortcake. I hope she likes it - Matthew picked the menu so I know he will be happy.

Make it a great day my friends.

Ellen, menu would make me happy. Have fun tonight meeting her!

Lauri Z, have fun with the NOLA girls!

My boy has an infected hang nail... so I need to shower to take him to the store to pick out fun band-aids... so he will let me tend to his wound without a hassle.

My DF is going to his surgeon today for his annual check-up on his knee replacements. Hoping he gets some answers on his hip today also so he can schedule surgery. He is in awful pain daily now.

BBL

Good morning all.

Don't worry Ellen, your not alone, no sun here either. Last Saturday was sunny and warm, we got so much work done. It felt like spring and was just the pick me up we all needed. I hope you get yours soon. Matthew picked a tasty dinner, I'm sure it will go well.

Glynis- Happy Birthday, I'm glad it's already off to a great start.

Lauren- Glad to hear the little guy is on the mend.

Aimee- I'm glad you like your mandoline, I got one for my dad for Christmas and he loves it.

Vickie- One year I drove down with my parents and my husband later flew and met us. He flew into Tampa and the drive was fine. The only problem was it was just after Sept. 11 and someone flew a plane into a bank in the area. Everything shutdown and the planes in the air went into a holding pattern. It was pretty scary at the time because we didn't know what was going on and my husband was up in the air. Anyway, the drive was fine (but my dad drives really fast!)

Sorry to all I've missed, have a great day all. Not sure on dinner, need to see what's in the freezer.

Happy Birthday Glynis!! I hope you have a great day.

Ellen -- I am so glad everyone is safe! Have fun tonight meeting Amy. I am sure she will love that menu and you.

Maria -- I'm looking forward to hearing some of your stories. I can only imagine...

Wendie -- Have a safe trip! I think Nancy's suggestion about offering a different day trip was a good one. I know it is a difficult situation, but I do hope you have a nice visit with your dad and your family has fun.

Lauren -- I'm glad Thomas is feeling better this morning. I'm sure you are too after a full night's sleep! You must all be getting excited for your move. I'm sure it has been hard for all of you to have Tom away all week.

Nancy -- I'm glad Buddy is getting some relief from the PT. How is Marisa doing?

Kathy -- That is exciting about your trip!

Lori, you are a good friend. Have a safe trip home.

Marilyn -- I'm sorry about your friend's son. Did you get the day off?

Bethany -- It looks like you are going to land in the water at the Boston airport too. I agree that it is a bit unnerving.

Aimee -- I don't use my mandoline often, but I am so glad I have it. I'm glad the medicine seems to be working. You have your surgery consult next week, right? I hope you are able to schedule that faster than it took to schedule the consult.

Janice -- I'm glad you are enjoying the book. The funny thing is, I brought the book to the swap, and no one wanted it! The person who first had it read the back and thought it was a story about a kidnapping (it is, but not in the way she thought) and swapped for the book I had. I nearly ended up bringing the book home, but I whispered to my friend that it was good so she swapped for it.

Tonight is Caili's dinner out for landing her salchow, so we'll see where she picks. She was trying to talk me into taking her to this really upscale, expensive place that we usually only go to when we have gift certificates. I said I was really happy about the salchow, but I really don't want to spend $150 on dinner for me and the two kids, especially since the only reason she wants to go there is because they make awesome desserts.
