The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl, good to see you. I hope you are feeling better today. I agree with the others: nice rack! :rotfl:
Lori, I hope you have a speedy resolution to the dreaded "man cold."
Wendie,
Maria, sounds like things are going well in Chicago! I hope everything works out OK with your DH: No layoffs!
Joanne, that recipe sounds good. What do you think about subbing in some bacon for the prosciutto? Would it still be good, do you think?

No split pea soup for dinner last night, my stomach was feeling a little off (still is) I made breakfast instead...scrambled eggs, biscuits, and fruit. No picture today.

Maria Glad you both liked Millers pub it was always one of my fav's. I will pray no layoffs.
.

Thank you girls for keeping Greg in your prayers.....I'm so nervous that he even mentioned the possibility.

Wendie, I sent you some spots you should visit while your away. Please take some time for you & the boys to regroup. You've had so much to deal with.

Nan, Buddy & you are in my prayers.

Kat, Janice & I are trying to work some time out for next week:cool1:
Ellen, wonderful that "J" is safe & sound.

Lauren, is it just a cold for the baby?

Sheryl, Glynis, Aimee, speedy recovery please.....
Sheryl you so missed when your not around.

Dinner was really good last night...Thank you Janice!!!

Bethany...maybe a NYC mini-meet!:thumbsup2
Kat....looks to me you have a NYC travel companion:goodvibes

Tonight is up in the air, I have chicken defrosted but everyone goes out 3-4 times a week so we may go.......The kids have fun & for the most part everyone is nice.
I do have some stories from these stage Moms!!!!!OH MY!!!!!

Glynis - Good luck with your studying and exam!

Lauren - I'm so sorry the news isn't better on your brother, my prayers continue.

Sheryl - Have fun getting beautified!!!!!!! Can't wait to see y'all tomorrow night!

Maria - I had to nix the NYC trip idea because I'm trying to find DVC points to rent for another Food & Wine trip in October, but so far no luck....:sad1:

Please pray DH is not laid off this week.

Scary time. I will keep him in my prayers!

Dinner last night was good... so they tell me. I ended up not eating any of it, as my stomach just couldn't handle it. No problem, though, since it means now DH has lunch for today.

No split pea soup for dinner last night, my stomach was feeling a little off (still is) I made breakfast instead...scrambled eggs, biscuits, and fruit. No picture today.

You two need to stop sharing the icky tummy germs with each other! I hope you both feel better soon

If I lived in a city like Chicago (or NYC) I'd never cook. Too many great restaurants within walking distance!

I want to hear some of these stories... ;)

So far today, no fever - basic gut pain but it's responding to Vicodin so I can function okay. Maybe this prednisone is going to actually help some this time.

I baked the chicken wings last night and threw them in the marinade. They are tequila-lime. Tonight I'll throw them on the grill, thicken the marinade, and toss them all in it when they are good and hot. Sounds yummy! I'm also going to break in my new mandoline I got for Xmas and make fried potatos.

Hey Kathy- I might be able to help with that. How many are you looking for? I own at Wilderness Lodge- don't know if that matters.

I am like Kat. I miss my Mom more during the winter months, I think it was because I used to sit on the chair and catnap when I was supposed to be cleaning or something. She used to laugh and tell me she would rather the company and did not care about the cleaning. It was three years on January third.

I so totally understand. It really is scary how much alike our lives are. I lost my dear Momma on the 1st of January. We were both sad at the same time. I so wish I had known you then.

Prayers for Buddy on his upcoming CT surgery.

More studying on tap for me today. I'm bound and determined to finish this module (bundle of 2 chapters) today. I'm reviewing the chapters, and then have a lecture to listen to on the internet. Hopefully, I can get that done tonight, and then take the exam on it! This has been a long and tricky module. I hope I'm understanding it. We'll know after the final!

Prayers for a good grade. You so amaze me Lady. :worship:

Lauren ~ Prayers for your Brother. I wish the news was better. How is T's faucet today? :rotfl:

Gretchen ~ I bet you will be glad when April 15th comes. Me - not so much -I hate writing that check.

Wendie ~ I so understand missing your Mom. My prayers go with you as you travel. It will be ok sweetie. How is Ross feeling?

Maria ~ OH no I don't want to hear any talk of lay offs. Prayers are with you both. I am so glad to hear of your Chicago fun though, you so needed this.

Sheryl ~ Don't you EVER go and leave us again like that. We were worried about you. I so wish I was there to help you more and give you a hug when you are feeling down. Please let us know so we can help you next time. OK?
Oh yea, that rack was beautiful. I only wish I could cook one like that.

Lori ~ How is the man cold? I hear you on the earplugs. Sometimes that is the only way I can sleep at night. Once Doug gets going I swear the neighbors can hear - and we live in the country - nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile up the road.

Laura ~ Is the tummy better today?

Robin ~ I have never heard of the bacon of the month. Are there 12 different flavors or what? I love bacon and I would LOVE this.
OMGoodness your candy looked wonderful. You rock lady!!

Thanks SO much for all of the prayers for J. It is so neat to know you all were there when I needed you.

I haven't seen the sun in 4 days and it is starting to show. I need me my sun!!! We have ice fog. Never heard of that before, but I do know it is a mess out there this morning. Ethan was even late for school, as there is about an inch of ice on the roads and it is so foggy that you can see about 10 feet beyond the hood of the car. But I got him there and me to work so that is all that matters.

You all have a great day!!

Well, last night was better. Rick got a good dose of Robitussin in and slept. So I only got snoring, which is a far sight better than the coughing and hacking. However the earplugs will be standard equipment in the toiletry bag from now on!;)

Nan- tell Buddy I'm hoping the CT surgery works well... he's gotta have full function for the sammie eatin'!

:grouphug: for everyone missing their Mommas. Talk about food being integral in memory- when I think about my Gram and miss her I think about her potato salad. Don't know why she's tied to that:confused3 but she is. Guess it could be something worse.

We fly back home tomorrow and then drive a load to FL. So food will be something on the road the next couple days. Tonight is whatever Rick brings back after his meeting downtown.

I'd be happy to stop sharing the tummy germs, but I'd be even more happy to share the gourmet cooking "germs."

eeeek so many last minute things to do, but I had to pop on here real quick and check in with my best girls!!!

I am ready to scream--my father wants (him and HER) to join us when we go to Lowery Park Zoo!! I have to find a way out of this without being mean....my mother used to beg my father to take her and he wouldn't, now he wants to take HER?!!? Kris and I have been looking forward to this as we haven't been since Ross was 18months.

Ross is ready to scream as well...I sent a note in last week for each of his teachers letting them know we would be leaving and Ross would only be in school on Friday until 10:30 and to please gather his work for him.....Half didn't read the note all the way and thought he would be there all day tomorrow, one emailed it to him but it wasn't right, one doesn't know how to give him it, as part is a class project......I told him get what you can, get the rest when we get back and if they give you a hard time we will send Kris in to deal with it. No stressing!!

Thank you all so much for the wisdom and understanding of the loss of my mom....I am so grateful to have you all as my friends!!

Ellen--I am so happy for the good news, and that Jay is safe!!

Sheryl--Glad you are heading out for some you time today!!

Janice--looking forward to the island!!;)

Maria--I got your message on fb thank you for the suggestions, I am really looking forward to trying them some of them out. Perfect for a day trip for the 3 of us!! Text me your cell and I will send you some pics while we are there!!
Prayers that there are No Layoffs!!

AImee--I am glad you are feeling a bit better today and that these meds might be working......at least to bring you some comfort until surgery!!

Lauren--prayers for your brother and fingers crossed on the house!!

Becky--I hope your tummy is better today!!

Ok I REALLY have to go get things finished....so many little things to do. We are bringing Ross' beta fish to the inlaws...the goldfish will be fine, but as crazy as it is this beta....Blue Barracuda or Cuda for short loves to be talked to and if you rub the side of the tank with your finger he rubs up against it...he is part dog or something...he needs the interaction so they grandfish sit for Ross. (we will owe forever for this favor, lol)

It might be a day or two before I get back on here, but I will be updating via cell to my fb.

For those who aren't feeling good I send good thoughts that you feel better soon!

To those that need them

To you all:grouphug:

Supper is sandwiches to use up the bread and whatever else is in need to be cleaned up

Hi All...quick post...jsut got back from the orthodontist and store...I forgot to post dinner. We are having the pork roast that I didnt cook yesterday (I've had it marinating in pesto), creamy garlic shells (the package) and whatever veggie looks good when I open the freezer (I am trying to clean it out).

Andrew had soup last night and I had sort or a spaghetti and spinach fritatta that I have been craving.

Thomas is doing better today. The doctors office said I was doing all the right things. He really has not been feverish.

I bought seltzer at the store trying to be healthy...I just dumped lots of vodka in it though!!!

BBL...

Maria, sorry to confuse you with the PM...I could not figure out what the 2 posting thing meant...I vote for keeping up here and then too personal of stuff on FB...

OK, off to cook...

Thank you for the prayers for Jimbo and the good thoughts on the house. It looks like we will be moving the beginning of April. Andrew is excited...I already called about baseball and it starts the beginning of April!

OK, 2 sips of soda and I am a babbling idiot...I guess I added too much vodka.

BBL...didnt I say that already?

Hugs to everyone missing someone...I lost my Dad this month 5 years ago too...I am just trying not to remember the date but those dates just seem to stick.

Good Evening! I am flying by but will chat later, I just want to say Hi!
Ellen- prayers answered! ASk anytime ( I put my Mom on it. I rarely ask her for help and she never lets me down :goodvibes)

Wendie- tell Ross not to let it get to him, the work will be there when you get home. This is an important trip! I would not bend on the zoo trip. Tell Dad that you appreciate that he wants to join you but that you and Keis has planned this as a very special time for teh three of you. Ask hom to plan another daytrip for all of you.

I hope that those of you sharing those germs stop! Feel better.

Dinner is warming on th stove. We are having leftover meatballs and sausage with rotini. I made a salad to go along with it but I think I may be having that tomorrow. Neither one of us feels like greens.

Thank you all for the prayers for Buddy. I htink this will be fine, it is not like what some of you are going through right now, and way better than what we set out thinking he was going to need. The PT is working wonders!

Aimee- I still worry, no fever is good but Whoa Nellie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vicodion is not supposed to manage cronic pain. You are not supposed to have chronic pain!

BBL!

Haven't read back yet but wanted to post because I'm so excited. Thanks to Lori (Bead Pirate) we're going to Food & Wine fest again this year!!!!!!!!:cool1::yay::dance3:

It's been a long day here and I still have a few things to get done before I leave. To top it off I have a headache and have had to sit here with the lights out, they make it worse. I'm gonna have to turn them on though, its getting dark outside and I can't see what I am doing very well anymore. :rotfl:

Dinner tonight will be leftover lasagna with sauce this time. :sad2: Last night when I went to make it I couldn't find the can of TJ's marinara so I substituted a can of roasted tomatoes. All of the liquid evaporated out of it, it was still tasty though just not as saucy as I like it to be.

I knew I had a can of it and searched the cabinets again and of course I found the stupid thing. So it's saucy lasagna tonight and some sort of green veggie.

Good grief! Just talked to my BFF, her middle son broke his collarbone AGAIN! :headache: He was playing football on a muddy field, where he wasn't supposed to be, and fell and broke it. He just finished healing from the last time.
