The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

In case I don't get back on here, I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Y'all,

Lauren, I'm here bustin my bootie instead of shaking it today!

Just like everyone else here!

Good like to all with the cleaning & cooking! Happy Thanksgiving! I doubt I'll have time to get on tomorrow.

Lauri, I really like Hogue Reisling! Good with desserts!

Anyone know if I can let a bread pudding sit in the custard overnight? If I cook it now, I'm afraid I'll dry it out reheating it tomorrow.

Aimee Look into that Yoga class maybe you might find some relief there. I found it helped

I need to... it just gets shoved to the end of the 'to do' list. :sad2:

Marisa saw the XRay tech yesterday and then the Dr assistant sent them to the Dr. Thank God for online stuff! Her kneecap is still where it belongs. She saw him today and he told her this is actually going to be excruciating pain. SHe will be starting physical therapy and said it sounds horrific. She is not a whiner and has a high pain threshhold so I cannot imagine this.

Oh, poor Marisa. I hate that she's dealing with this, but thankful there is no major damage to be seen. Are they giving her sufficent pain meds? Esp with therapy starting - she really needs something to stay on top of it. I hope she can enjoy her holidays some.

My day has been crazy - had an iron infusion this morning, then had to stop and pick up some things to finish my trees at church, then onto work. Of course nothing mechanical was working right and we were under a time crunch so we ended up having to pay big bucks for Office Depot to finish things in time for Sunday. :sad2:

DH is picking up the monster TV and I am going to help get it upstairs - if I can.

Tonight we are eating LOTS of leftovers! I wanted to see a movie but DH really wants to watch something on the new TV

Hello My Friends,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
For those traveling please be safe & watch the crazies on the road. For those home have a wonderful time with your families.
For my friends that are having a tough time this year please know you are in my thoughts & prayers.
I wish you all peace & joy~

First I owe a few of you calls back, I have been running around all day & of course my cell died. So much for multi-tasking~

Going to make my stuffing now & get my sweet potatoes roasted before they hit their Jack Daniels & butter bath tomorrow.

Early this morning I made a pumpkin pie, small mince meat & small apple. Cheated & bought the crust.

I bought a new table cloth & napkins for for Grandma's table so need to get them in the wash.

This is one of the reasons I'm thankful~
Guiliana

I will bbl~

Let's see if this works

I have been having a day. It ended with me at the gas station putting in my bank card and promptly forgetting my pin number. :rolleyes1 Thank god it works as a credit card too. I can not for the life of me remember that number.

I will be back after I have a diet coke and clear my head.

Evening all.....PHEW...found ya all, lol..new home Thanks Kat, you rock girlfriend!...I really need to find 20 solid minutes Friday and catch up with each and everyone of you!! The past few days have been crazy..if some of you saw my fb post..we have had a change of plans regarding vacation and the holidays. I will fill you all in on Friday.

I also think I am just plain and simple down in the dumps...I miss my mother every day but this time of year (to be expected) even more...sigh.....I know that so many of you(unfortunately) understand:(

I hope you all have a beautiful happy day tomorrow...safe travels to those traveling, to all who this day is tinged with sadness my heart is with you.

We (Kris, Ross, myself and the outlaws) are going out to dinner to this very nice inn. Ross is a bit :scared1: that the duck they serve you is from the same ducks that wander around their pond, lol. He has a thing for Mr and Mrs Mallard's:confused3:lmao:
My mother just loved to go out for Thanksgiving dinner, and I told my outlaws that if they wanted to eat with us then they can join us, but it will be out to eat every year in my mom's honor. They complain about it, yet they still go with us....sigh.
In the evening one family member hosts what we call Dessert Night....we all bring something ala pot luck style, get together and visit, get our list of what we are to bring to the family Christmas party that is in a few weeks, and draw a name of one of the kids we get a gift for.

I just want to add that of all the things that I am Thankful for this Thanksgiving 2009, at the top of my list is each and every one of you!!:grouphug:

Awww, the baby is precious! :goodvibes

So we WERE going to have chicken, cornbread, mashed potatoes, salad, and brownies, but now we won't be having cornbread. The mix I have needs baking powder. I thought I had some, but it turns out we tossed it in the move and I realized this a few days ago, but every store I've gone to is out of baking powder. So, now dinner is just chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad. Such a simple menu and still I'm biffing it up. :sad2:

Bethany- Here's the recipe I use, it has baking soda, not powder. I don't know if you have cornmeal or not, but now that you are a proper southerner you should. If you don't have buttermilk add a splash of vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk and let it sit for a few minutes. This recipe is so easy I know you can do it.

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter 2/3 cup white sugar 2 eggs 1 cup buttermilk 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup cornmeal 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8 inch square pan.
Melt butter in large skillet. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Quickly add eggs and beat until well blended. Combine buttermilk with baking soda and stir into mixture in pan. Stir in cornmeal, flour, and salt until well blended and few lumps remain. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Sorry, it didn't cut and paste well. (That's probably human error though!)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

:faint: A recipe even I can do?!? And you called me a "proper Southerner"! I dunno about all that, but I DO have cornmeal!

I'm going to try another store in the morning, but if they don't have it then I will likely try this. Thanks!

So my mom told me that I needed to stop eating all meat and dairy so I would lose weight. :headache: Then she told me I need to go to bed right now so I won't be cranky tomorrow. I don't think the bedtime is the culprit in the crankiness. :rolleyes1

A quick last minute jump in...

I just had to say to Maria----breathtaking....my heart is with you...prayers said my friend!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Getting ready to go to bed, been cleaning the family room. :scared: Got lots done today but still haven't finished the lights in the yard. We got the big tree all done and it started pouring!

Everyone have a nice, safe, holiday and I'll see you sometime after BF shopping.

Nancy, Im so very sorry I didn't see your post this morning. I just read in Aimee's post! Gosh poor Marisa! When Bob had knee surgery I know it must be bad, because he can take anything & it kicked it butt. I'm praying for Marisa!

Maria, Congrats that's one perfect baby! :lovestruc

Janice, What a beautiful cake!

Wendie Glad your here!

Well I'm finally done & in bed! Made the Cherry breadpudding with the Cherry Bounce Sauce. mmm My custard failed even though I followed the directions to a tee. It's good without it. I also did braised kale with tasso & carmelized onions. Got all the dishes for serving out & think I'm ready. Tomorrow the only thing I have to cook is the brussels sprouts.

Here's the chocolate pecan pie.
