The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I am thinking he might just win. Last night he was on fire! I too thought Maya had it sewn up but now I just think Donny will win definitely an upset;)

Someone is going to have to PM me the results. I will be at pie night, and since DH hasn't bought into the whole TIVO thing, I'll need some help.

I've enjoyed both Mya and Donny all season long. At first I was rooting for my hometown boy, Donny, but I'd say either one deserves to win.

Vickie - Come on over for pie. I'll do my best to save some! I've got the pecan done, and the white chocolate peppermint is in the fridge chilling and setting up. I was all set to start on the banana, and even got the crust baked, when I realized that I bought the wrong ice cream topping. I need hot fudge sauce, and bought chocolate fudge. The hot fudge sets up into a hard layer on the bottom, so I can't really substitute. So, now I have to wait for Timothy to wake up from his nap so we can run to the store. I promised Leslie that she could help with the Derby pie, so that will have to wait until later. Hope we get it done for tonight. If not, she can make it for tomorrow.

Greg kept waking me up all night, when I did sleep he said I was crying & chatting. I feel bad because he took today of to do 2 papers & I know he's tired.

Marilyn - I'm so jealous of your quilting abilities! That's one thing I always wanted to learn, but never did. My best friends daughter is taking a quilting class in college, and she's promised to teach me next summer, so I'll look forward to that.

What I make is simple, cut fabric and sew back together.:thumbsup2:rotfl: The actual "quilting" I do is to just run a stitch around the outside edge of the finished quilt.

Marilyn, I would love to see pics of the quilt. Will you post pics when you get your new
computer?

Unfortunately not that one! :sad2: I forgot to take a picture of it.:headache: But I will post pictures of some of the other ones I have done and am doing for Christmas. Wait till you see the one I am doing for my middle godson, it's gonna be AWESOME!!!! :woohoo:

Doing something with shrimp for dinner.

Got a few things done last night. Hoping to get my Christmas lights up in the yard tomorrow but don't know if the weather is going to cooperate. If anything I want to get the big pine tree and the bushes done.

Howdy ya'll! It's rainy and cold in St Louis today!:sad2:

It was like this all last week here too....I'm beginning to think it's me, cause it rained at home this weekend too and I was there......

I'm considering not putting up any decorations this year.:scared1:

I know, I know. But what's the point when we're never here?!?

We're finally tacking down a timeline for moving, and looking at getting a small, stress SMALL, storage unit in FL to start getting some stuff out of the way. Figure when we go down for Christmas, if we drive instead of fly, I can drop some misc and the Christmas decorations in the unit and free up some sorting space in the NOLA place. I can't believe how much stuff we have.:sad2:

Depending on when an apt unit comes open it looks like Mardi Gras time, maybe just after for moving.

I've enjoyed everyone's Thanksgiving menus and feel a little guilty that I'm not cooking, but even if Travis came over there'd only be 3 of us, once again, what's the point.

Sorry to sound so poopy, I don't mean too.

Tonight we are heading to the Harrah's here for dinner. So we can get up and hit that 6:50am flight home......Nothing like flying the day before Thanksgiving.:scared1:

Vickie - the Saints play the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football on November 30th!!

It's Monday night and yes its New England. It's already getting crazy down here for that game!

It must be the Monday night game showing here....!! :woohoo:

Im actually really happy that this is the first Saints game shown.

I dont confess to know everything about the NFL...but I know I really, really dont like New England.

I think the clue is in the name.....;)

Who Dat !!

Vickie, WHO DAT!
Watch out Robin is going to come beat you up over her Pat's!;)
I'm glad you are going to get to see our boys play! It's going to be a tough game. The Patriots are good & the quarterback Tom Brady is cute to boot! But our guy Drew Brees is amazing & a really good person, gives a lot back to the community.

Maria, I just made your cranberry sauce, YUMMY!:thumbsup2
I love the cinnamon & orange in it! Of course I had to nanatize it a bit! I did't have enough oj, so I used half cranb. juice & I added 2 peeled diced pears! Really good!

Lauri, World Market sells Columbia Crest Cabernet, it's only $10-12 & tastes like more! Want cheaper, Yellowtail Shiraz $5-7, more expensive Coppola Claret-big, bold flavor! I'll be putting out a Cava prosecco, and a rose & cabernet from Bob's friend's Napa winery. I'l also serve either Rosa or a German Auslese with dessert! think that's enough wine!

Lori, You don't need a big meal to be happy! I know for you & Rick, just the two of you is best! ;)

I just made mine & had to Nanatize. I used an apple & pear...didn't have enough orange juice so used 1/2 o.j. & 1/2 pomegranite.

Lori, I agree it sucks it's just me Greg & my Mom. I feel for you but please cook.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been keeping up and not sure when I can. We're dealing with some issues that are taking a lot of my time and looks like it will be a couple of weeks before it's resolved. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers and will be keeping up as much as I can.

Oh Kathy  I hope everythings ok and it all turns out for the good.

Good morning everyone! My cake decorating has been delayed till tonight. I have chocolate cake staring me in the face I am strong no nibbling :thumbsup2 Am I strong or what?

Truth I went upstairs early last night so I couldn't see it.:rotfl2:

Janice you are 1 STRONG woman that cake would not have made it at my house.:rotfl2:

The cleaning is, for all intents and purposes, DONE!!! I still need to pick up my room, but that can be done during the day today, while my pies bake.

Good for you you have done a lot of work in the last few weeks you should be proud. Sit back and enjoy Turkey day

Tonight is our mini Thanksgiving dinner - we have 3 other guests coming at 7pm. The turkey has been brining since last night and I hope it tastes delicious!

I'm sticking with the earlier menu I posted, minus the fennel (turkey, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, au gratin potato, sausage stuffing, fried brussel sprouts with walnuts and capers, green bean casserole, lemon merin pie, crescent rolls, lots of wine!)

Not feeling so good so I'm staying home today to rest.

Have fun Aimee hope your feeling better.

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes for Lizzy she is coming along this afternoon I've seen more improvement.

Wfd- pork chops with sweet potatoes

Everyone have a great day:flower3: Lauri

Janice is the cake still in tact?????;)

Dinner is pork chops in the crock pot, red cabbage & asparagus.

shhh, I don't like the Patriots. Actually I don't like football at all, though I love the food that goes along with it.

NO. 1 WINE: Columbia Crest on top of world

Washington's largest winery made the world's greatest wine this year, according to Wine Spectator.

The world's largest wine magazine revealed Friday that the No. 1 wine on its annual top 100 list was Columbia Crest's 2005 reserve cabernet sauvignon.

Wine Spectator agrees with Sheryl. ;)

Hey y'all, I really hate being mysterious, it's not my intention at all. I can't post publicly what's going on but please know that Johnny, Kyle and I are all fine. Feel free to pm me.

Vicki is an official member of the "Who Dat Nation"!!!!!!!!

Maria Yes the cake is intact:thumbsup2 I am just about ready to start the filling and ganache. I need to get the fondant rolled too. I really hope the image I have in my head makes it to the cake. I don't have good head hand coordination. :rotfl2:

I think hamburgers and fries are dinner tonight.

If anyone is looking for a good mid price cab Estancia is really good. I drink more white and fruit wines :rolleyes1. I forgot who asked about the pumpkin wine. It is from a local winery Praire State. I say local, but it is about hour and half away just in Illinois.

Glynis, can you share your white chocolate peppermin pie recipe, please? It sounds perfect for Christmas!

You are a stronger woman than I!!!!!! Hope we get to see photos when you done!

Here is the pork chop recipe from tonight....very tasty (although I skipped the celery & used canned tomatoes not V8)
Crockpot Spicy Pork Chops
  • 2 ribs celery, sliced
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 6 to 8 boneless pork chops, about 3/4 to 1-inch thick
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut in strips
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut in strips
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper or seasoned pepper
  • 2 cups spicy V-8 vegetable juice or V-8 and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch, blended with 2 tablespoons cold waterPlace celery and chopped onion in crockpot. Trim excess fat from pork chops; add to slow cooker. Sprinkle pepper strips around and between pork chops. Pour V-8 juice over all. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours. With a slotted spoon, transfer pork chops and vegetables to a platter; keep warm.

Maria, just left you a VM

Luke did well at doc. No shots only h1n1 2nd dose. He grew 4 inches and 4lbs in a year. He was 33lbs and 38 inches (only 2 more inches for some WDW ride requirements):cool1:

:woohoo:

My DN, 6yo, was sooo excited when she got big enough to ride certain rides. And we were the same when she was big enough to ride Soarin', her DM and I spent the ride videotaping and taking her picture. :rotfl:

Nancy -- I hope Marisa got seen today and everything is okay.

Heck, that just sounds like a reason to add the champagne and serve it in the champagne glasses to me. ;)

I think we did that one year, and everyone agreed it was a bad idea.

Not feeling so good so I'm staying home today to rest.

I hope you are feeling better and that your dinner was good.

Me too!

If I'm not too tired, dinner will be halibut w fennel orange salsa & garlic bread.

Oh my goodness, Sheryl, I really hope you picked takeout. You have been doing so much.

Sorry to sound so poopy, I don't mean too.

You don't sound poopy, you just sound like you have a lot going on right now. I hope you get it all figured out soon!

I dont confess to know everything about the NFL...but I know I really, really dont like New England.

Ouch. We're really not that bad, and really nothing like England.

He was 33lbs and 38 inches (only 2 more inches for some WDW ride requirements):cool1:

Glad he had a good appointment!

Back when I was in 6th grade, the school I went to was talking about building a new building. Phase 1 just finished up this week. :faint:

I'm still doing laundry. Let me just say again that I'm really glad I have my own washer and dryer in my apartment! :woohoo:

Geez! Y'all been chatty today! Anyway, I'm just back from work and then we leave for the airport at 4:30am tomorrow. Good times. I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving now b/c I don't know what the schedule will be for the next few days. Hope everyone has a blessed time with their loved ones this week!
