The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I'm sorry I haven't thanked those I've gotten cards from as everyone else has. Thanks Ellen (love the ornament), Lauri D and Becky!!!!!!

Just poking my head in as I grab my address list to get my cards out ASAP. I got them today, so the first batch will go out tomorrow. I have some packages to get to the post office anyway, so I'll grab some stamps and send them on their way! I've made 3 good batches of cookies and 1 not so good (first try at meringues--not a good start ) and 1 good batch of fudge. Making some white chocolate pretzel snowmen right now. And then some card addressing and package taping.

And you'll notice the absence of WFD--last night was cheese dip and mozzerella sticks. Tonight was MNF at friend's house. Leaving some Jambalaya for mom tomorrow. Maybe I'll cook on Wed. but don't count on it!

Vickie--that's terrible that they had Colin sit at the poor woman's desk. But glad his first day went okay. And how sweet is he to get you the wreath!

Colins home from work.
His day was ok,every one seems nice and he is confident of the work.
But he found out why he is there and on a 6 months contract,with a view to permanent.
The girl who does the job has been diagnosed with cancer and is very poorly.
He had to sit at her desk which still had her coffee mug and photos on it !!
I am raging about that.
It has really upset him...he has not had any dinner and is away to soak in the bath.

That's sad. Not the way you want to start a job.

Dinner tonight was chicken parmasaen and spagetti.

Vickie- that is terrible! I can understand letting a man know that he is filling in for a woman who is ill but I am appalled at that total lack of respect both are being shown. I hope that his day is better today.

Ann- I hope that Ron's day is a sign that this is going to be an awesome job!

Dinner is whatever I pull out of the freezer. I have not decided if I am going to stay irritated with Buddy. He survived the meatloaf yesterday . If I decide to like him today dinner will not be beef stew or chicken pot pie. If I decide to be more angry he is getting Shepard's pie. If I decide to be nice he will get some kind of meat and potatoes not in one pot. He needs to be glad I am not furious, he would get bean burrito bake or Mexican lasagna.

Good morning! Thank you all for the wonderful cards I'm getting!!! I picked mine up yesterday, so they should go out soon. Vickie, I don't think you'll get it in time for Christmas, but maybe for New Year's. I'm just such a scatterbrain!!!

Dinner last night was tilapia that I covered with a sauce made out of plain yogurt, lemon juice, softened butter, minced onion, dill and paprika. It was so yummy!!! I also topped it with shredded parmesan cheese, and broiled it in the oven. Everyone loved it except Leslie, and she hates any fish that is not breaded to death!!! Oh well!!

I have no idea what we are having for dinner tonight. Alan wants to do it, so he's put some elk steak into the crockpot with a bunch of secret stuff. We'll see. I'll make some rice and a veggie later to go with it.

I'm going to try to stay at home today, but I'm not sure how that will go. I desperately need to get some more Christmas shopping done, but my bank account thinks we're done. We'll see who wins out!

Trying a new recipe tonight from Rachael, it's a 15 minute meal - Chicken with BLT gravy. I'll make some noodles and corn to go with it! bbl........

I have no clue about dinner. We are under flash flood watch with tons of rain coming in today. I have an mri & dr appt that I have to figure out if I can get to . I really need to do this before the end of the year & if I cancel may not get another.

Poor Colin. What a horrible thing to do to him! But I'm hoping they are just trying to be kind to the girl who is out. Hopefully they are very thoughtful people who wanted to leave her desk as it is so she wouldn't feel pushed out if she happened by. I hope so anyway. Hugs to both of you in either case.

DH had a better day at work than expected. His days off are now going to be Tues. & Wed. so he will be around the next two days before he get slammed at the holiday rush.

We went out for mexican - I ate more than I thought I'd be able to, which will hopefully give me some more energy. Since my dad is coming here to dogsit, I have to clean the house some!

That cracks me up! I'm the same way, only I do it to the kids too! BBQ if I'm angry with Amanda, roast beef for Patrick, and mexican for Kenny. If I'm really ticked off, I make broccoli slaw!

Kathy, the food was very good & the venue would have been spectacular if the windows hadn't fogged up. Looked out on the river on one side & inside the market on the other. Would have been better if everyone didn't get so wet.

I did have my test this morning and it went better than last time in that I kept that chaulky stuff down. I should know something this afternoon, I hope.


Tonight is our staff Christmas dinner. I am bring a baked spinach and mashed potato dish I found on All recipes. I'll post it after I taste it I'm also bringing some oreo truffles; I was having a craving for them and they are impossible to make in individual batches.

I calmed down so Buddy is off the hook. I made a veggie and quinoa soup but then I felt badly becasue he would just choke eating that and I am not that mad at him so I made him tuna. He took Marisa and Kady to gymnastics class and will bring them back her so that she and I can go shopping for an outfit for Kady's winter concert tomorrow. Poor Marisa is getting sick of depending on someone to drive her around and for someone to take Kady to her activities and to the bus but it cannot be helped. I think Buddy is going to take Kady Christmas shopping this weekend. Jeff only has one day off before Christmas day and he usually takes her. I don't think Pa minds stepping in but Kady does love shopping with her Dad.
