The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Lauren, prayers and hugs for you and DB

Aimee, sending prayers for good results

Nancy, poor buddy. Be patient. I have a similar IL situation but I think it bother me more than DH because I am use to being close to family. I hate it for my kids.

Vickie, :goodvibes I am so glad the card did not get lost.

Kat, enjoy cookin gfor Kyle during break.

Luke slept till 6am this morning in his own bed :woohoo:. And he passed out on the couch at 7:15 watching Rudolph.

Good Morning. Quick check in. Thank you all for your kind thoughts on having my Mom over and for my brother. I am sad and mad at the same time because he is having liver issues due to drinking. I am not sure of the extent...I was told inflamation but it has been a big secret so really don't know what to think.
Have fun at the concert!

Lauren- call or PM me. Perhaps I can help in regards to your brother, this is something I had experience with but will not discuss on an open board.

:woohoo::woohoo:Goooo Luke!

I know about your situation and for the life of me cannot understand your IL's :sad1: Your marriage may or may not be their concern, I can't get that either :sad2: but I would rip my heart out before I would not be a part of my child's life and would move Heaven and Earth to be part of a grandchild's life. They are very foolish and selfish IMO.

Kat, dinner sounded yummy! Give Kyle a hug & kiss from this Aunty please.

Lauren, I'm so sorry about your brother. If you need to go up & see him I would be more than happy to take a ride with you. Prayers for you & of course a shoulder is right here.

Laura, safe travels for Greg. Have a wonderful time.

Ann, YEAH for LUKE!!!!! GOOD WORK:cool1:

Aimee & Lauri, please be safe & have a great time!!!!

I did get my cards out yesterday. I'm a little ticked because I had them done before I went away but my labels never arrived from Shutterfly. Well when I came home still no labels so off they went & now fighting with Shutterfly for a refund.

I watched Gordon's show last night, I thought it was really fun!!! Was it a one time show?:confused3 hope not. Between Charlie Brown & Gordon I had Greg for the evening & he passed on homework:thumbsup2

The meatloaf last night was delicious, I have no idea why:rotfl:
Dinner tonight is chicken soup that I made during the night thanks to insomnia....

Dinner tonight will be at a meeting, having turkey, roast beef, salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and dessert.

They are putting in a new computer for me today, hopefully this resolves the printing problems. :rolleyes1 If not, I quit! Good thing they are replacing the other one, when the fan started up it sounded like it was getting ready to take off!

Is it the Holiday Season? I am not feeling it this year and wish I did. Even all the decorating has not made me really festive.

We decided to cut back on our shopping this year and that is a good thing because I don't even feel like doing that this year. Usually I love to get out there and at least buy for the little ones but it feels like a chore this year. Whatever it is, I have to snap out of it because I am not done shopping, have no menu planned for the Holiday meals, have not thought about what cookies to make for the swap on Sunday and am almost out of clothes, my ironing is piled that high. Buddy always gets testy this time of year, he is estranged from his family so there is always something missing for him and without Kady here this Christmas he is more down than usual. His mood is catchy though so I am afraid that we will all just avoid him if he keeps this up.

 I don't think every year has to be magical and happy - some years just aren't. Don't beat yourself up for not being in the "Christmas Spirit" - it's normal. The holidays can be a really hard time of year for many people for various reasons and I think part of it is the high expectations put upon the holiday.

We have a service of comfort and grief at the church each year... I think a lot of churches do. It seems to help some families work through some of the baggage and emotion that comes with celebrating a "family" time without members of their family. Doesn't make it go away but at least acknowledges their pain and gives them space to work through it.

They are putting in a new computer for me today, hopefully this resolves the printing problems. :rolleyes1 If not, I quit! Good thing they are replacing the other one, when the fan started up it sounded like it was getting ready to take off!

Oh I hope it works! I got my laptop back earlier this week and it's actually better than it was :woohoo:

I decided to give the doc until lunch to call me -their offices closes from 1-2 and then I'll call back. If I remember right, he does scopes on Thurs mornings.

Tonight is our church wide Christmas dinner and we serve chicken curry :confused3:laughing: I helped plan the program but got out of doing anything in it so we can JET when it finishes and head home. We worked on the house/laundry/etc until 1am last night so hopefully won't have as much to do tonight.

I stopped by PetCo and picked up extra yummy treats and special canned food for the dogs while we're gone. I'm going to be the worst mother :sad2: I feel so guilty about leaving them that I spend tons of money on buying them treats and toys. Thankfully my dad will be with them and their schedule and environment won't be changing.

Good morning everyone, it's chilly and windy here today. I think it's going to stay like that for a while though.

Aimee- I'm just the opposite, I love leaving my dog. He goes to a great kennel and during the day all the dogs go into fenced yards and he just runs and runs all day. I'm so scared I'll loose him if I let him off the leash so it's really the only time he gets to run. I'm sure your pups will be fine, but I'm sure they don't mind the extra treats.

Marilyn- I'm still waiting for my new computer at work too. I don't go back until May, and I'm pretty sure it still won't be there. I can get some of my work done on it, they I have to go to another computer to print anything. It usually takes forever for my password to get straightened out. It's a mess. Good luck to you.

Maria- Yum, I love meatloaf. We are having it for dinner tomorrow. I put a little chipolte flavored tabasco sauce in the glaze. I'm looking foward to reading about your trip.

Ann- Way to go Luke! I'm sure his bed just took a bit of getting used to. The day we moved my daughter into her bed was the last day she took a nap.

Lauren- I'm so sorry for you. I don't know what to say other than my thoughts are with you and your family. Enjoy the concert, our school only does Christmas, sorry "winter", concerts with the kindergarten. Good luck to the triangler.

Janice- Your 7 degrees is starting to make our 25 look really good. It's just so darn windy, the poor seagulls seem to go wherever the wind is blowing them.

Nancy- I think with Thanksgiving being so late this year, Christmas seems so rushed. I really enjoy the whole Christmas season, but it's going so fast. I'm sorry for Buddy, even if it's for the best it's tough when families go there separte ways. My dad doesn't speak to his sister (she's an awful person) I do feel badly at the holidays for him.

We are having the BLT chicken Kathy posted, it looks really good. Also roasted potatoes (sweet potato fries for me) and acorn squash. It will be a good cold night meal.

Good afternoon! I spent the morning doing some odds and ends, and a bit of Christmas shopping, and now Timothy and I are home. We both crashed, and he's still asleep. I've been feeling a bit under the weather, so it felt good to nap, although I now have a crick in my neck!

Dinner tonight is plain of spaghetti and meat sauce. At least I hope it will be meat sauce. I need to see if I have any ground turkey or beef in the freezer. Alan is hoping for homemade breadsticks, but I don't feel up to it. I'll just make some biscuits instead.

I really need to call my doctor! Last Saturday, I had a doozy of a dizzy spell, and it left me so weak and shaky. I was in bed by 7:00 and slept until 8 the next morning. Sunday, I went to church then came home and crawled back into bed. Since then, I've not felt "right" at all. I wake up dizzy and disoriented, and it takes hours for that feeling to go away. Then I spend the rest of the day with no energy. I need to have my iron levels checked, as I tend to be anemic. I was hoping to wait until after the holiday to do this, but it's just getting worse. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot, just because I have no energy. I just hope I can get an appointment.

Enough about me!

Lauren - you and your brother continue to be in my prayers. Wish I could do more!

Nancy - I'm so sorry that you are not feeling the Christmas spirit. It's been tough for me this year, too.

Ann - Hooray for Luke!!! That's quite an achievement!

Aimee - Have a wonderful trip, and enjoy everything!!!

Maria - Can't wait to read the TR! I need a Disney fix so badly!!!

Well, since the baby's still napping, I think I'll go lie down again!

Lauren – Good luck to Andrew!

Ann – Hooray for Luke!!!!:thumbsup2

Aimee – You’re very lucky to have your Dad be able to sit with the dogs. You will have the peace of mind knowing they’re OK.:goodvibes

Hi Everyone!
I'm I should be getting a call from Greg any minute to say he is in Orlando! :goodvibes

I am so happy for all of you. Hopefully Greg is there and life is GOOD!!

A quick drive-by. Tonight on Fox Chef Ramsey is on. For some reason I really like him :confused3. Does this make me sadistic?

Wfd is turkey sausauge, noodles and a salad.

Thank you for the holiday cards. They have given me many a smile in the last couple of days. Been in a kind of a funk lately. I sure hope I snap out of it soon, it's getting old.

Please stay warm!! Funks aren't always a bad thing, but I do hope you feel like your old self soon.

Prayers are with you my dear friend. Please know we are all here for you.

Got my cards done today! They were dropped in the mail box this afternoon, so they are on their way! You should all be impressed! I did yours before addressing any for my "blood" family! You guys are more important!

Just waiting for Alan to get home to eat dinner. I'm starving, so I hope the elk steaks are good. They smell good, but time alone will tell!

I totally agree!!
I sure hope you start feeling better real soon. Dizzy is not a great feeling.

The staff dinner was nice tonight but it was longer than I had hoped. If I didn't have this dang job I sure would get a lot more done ;) Tomorrow is a busy day. We have to leave by 4am on Thurs morning to catch our 530 flight () and have to get the rest of the house clean, laundry done, dogs stuff squared away, and PACKED - this is after working all day and the church wide dinner and program tomorrow night. *sigh* I can sleep on vacation, right?

I didn't get any results yet but I talked to the nurse and she promised he'd call as soon as he read them all. If I don't hear anything by lunch I'll call again.

My Vera Bradley order arrived today and I must admit it was worth the $$ to get them here. She will LOVE them!

I am sure you will get it all done and if not oh well. Your'e going to DISNEY!!! Have a wonderful time - you so deserve this.

Nancy ~ I am here if you want to vent/talk.

Ann ~ :yay: for Luke!!

Robin ~ Stay warm my friend. It is all the way up to 15 degrees today. A real heat wave for us lately.

Maria ~ Hey sweetie. Do we want a Trip Report . . . hum, let me see . . . YES!!!!!!

We are having Operation Santa Claus today here at the Church. It is the most hearwarming thing I have ever seen. All year donations are made to the Optimist Club. Then through Health & Human Services needy children's parents are contacted to come in and pick two presents per child plus stocking stuffers. Each child also recieves hats & gloves, coloring books & crayons and a new soccer/football/basketball. Parents come in and pick what they want and then volunteers wrap them. The christmas music is playing and the hot chocolate is flowing. Everyone is having a wonderful day. It just doesn't get much better than this in my little world today.

WFDT ~ It's date night so no cooking tonight again.

Make it a great day my friends.

I must be losing my mind. I swear my last post wasn't there a minute ago, sorry.

Hey all.....I just wanted to pop on and thank everyone who has sent cards......fun fun fun to get this kind of mail!! Ellen, thanks for the gift...Ross put it on the tree right off. Vickie, he was so excited to get your card...and loved the airmail sticker on it from the post office, lol!

Ellen It is good to see people helping other people out.

Home from my meeting. Dinner was pretty good and we had lots left over! I ordered enough for 40 people and we only ate about half of the food, the catering companies portions must have been really big.

Cards went in the mail today. :yay:

Oh and my computer works again!!! :woohoo: I got a nice, new one and it can print too!

Wendie - Sorry about the drama.

Janice - What is Spanish steak?
