The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

WOW this sounds wonderful!!! Would you mind sharing the recipe? TIA.

Well, I have never made it before, but after I try it, if it is good, I will share the recipe! I want to test drive it first.

Aimee, so good to hear from you, and congrats to your DH on his job!

Maria, feel better soon. I HATE getting stomach viruses.

I heard that the schools in NYC have already announced that they are going to be closed tomorrow? :confused3 I did not know that they were supposed to get that much snow. The forecasters cannot seem to decide on how much we are getting...I have heard anything from one inch to over a foot. We'll see. Whatever it is, it won't be as bad as the poor folks in the DC area!

If anyone is interested the Saint's parade will be televised on the NFL Network and ESPN at 6:00 ET.

Quick fly by,I was at training tonight and Im sooo tired...I think my SuperBowl late night is catchin up with me !!

My nephew was doing good.
He had eatin a proper meal yesterday and was brighter.
But we went to my sisters after school because it was my BIL's birthday and he was back in bed sleeping with his fever sky high.
I know they did tests and said it was nothing to worry about but its not easy watchin him so sick.

Aimee - Im glad you are doing better sweetie.
Dont rush out of hospital though, take all the time you need to heal.
:yay: for DH's job that is great !!

Good morning friends - I feel like I haven't been here in forever but have been reading along on FB when I can (on my phone email notices). I felt up to sitting in a chair for a bit and holding the laptop though I think it'll wear me out for the day. Things are progressing okay... much harder than I thought but hopefully worth it in the end.

No word on discharge; sometime this week I guess. I could probably get him to send me home Thurs but DH got a JOB :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: and has to head to Dallas for testing and background checks during the day. So, I'm not sure when I'll get to go home :confused3

Glad you're feeling better and that's great Aimee about the job! :dance3:

Marilyn--Maine won't hardly get a thing from this next system, it is going to go just south of us...I think Becky and Laura will get a good hit though....we have bare grass everywhere you look.....I don't mind as it will make less of a snowpack to melt in the spring, but the snowmobilers and those that make their money off them could use more snow.

Tell them to send trucks, we have plenty! :rotfl:

They are now starting to dump it in the Chesapeake Bay, next thing you know there will be an iceberg warning! :rotfl:

FINALLY having PW's sesame noodles. With a twist though, I'm going to add stir fried shrimp.

Vickie Sending prayers over the water for you nephew.

Kathy I am assuming you got the stuff I sent right?

Aimee I am glad your husband got a job :cool1: That has to make you both feel better. I bet his little charges are going to miss him.

Well it is snowing again. Oh yeah.:rolleyes1 I am ready for spring :flower3:

Maria Sorry you feel the need to get sick in our fine city. Is Emily getting home sick? Maybe that is why she is testing you. Alex also does that when he is tried. Maybe offer her a walk off the pier next time.pirate:

Thanks, all :goodvibes

Gretchen- unfortunately my neighbor found out that he has a form of lymphoma that is not curable. It is very slow moving and can sort of flare up and then they can try to treat it each time but it will never go away. The "good" news is that each treatment isn't as harsh as it would be if you were trying to cure the cancer but the bad news is that it will inevitably be terminal. He was told it was lymphoma before they did surgery to remove a lymph node and find out what type and everyone (myself included) kept telling them that lymphomas are so curable that they really were just devastated at the news. I did bring them dinner last week after his surgery and have checked in with emails twice since with no response, I did tell her that I wasn't expecting one but was just thinking of them. I'm trying to find the fine line of being there for them while giving them the space they need too.

I'm so sorry about your neighbors prognosis

Aimee so glad to hear you are healing and feeling better. Listen to your body and rest when it tells you too. Great news about your husband, that's sure to aid in your recovery process

Ann glad your mom did well with her procedure. The PC Georgetown game is on ESPN so we can see it and they are winning. I would normally watch it with my son, but they cancelled school for tomorrow already. So he's out at a friend's then going to the gym for a workout So I keep switching back to American Idol , I love Ellen

Kat, thanks for the link to the Disney commercial, No matter how many years they show it , it always gives me a thrill
wfd chicken potatoes peas salad (I'm getting sick of chicken, my weekday meals are in a rut)

I'm so bummed out. We waited 1 1/2 hrs to try to cross the ferry, We were told it would probably be several hours more to get across. The ferry only held 230 people at a time. There were literally thousands waiting.

Maria - I'm sorry you're not feeling well - get better soon. :goodvibes

Marilyn - I'm definitely gonna keep an ear out for an iceburg warning in the Bay. :lmao:

Vickie - more prayers coming for nephew. It's frustrating when they're sick and you can't do anything to help.

I posted some pics on FB from the parade. It started at 5:00 and I was two blocks away from the start. At 6:10 after seeing just two of the 10 floats, as well as a few bands, we decided to call it quits. It was incredibly cold and the group I was with, we had enough. It was starting to get dark, and my pictures weren't coming out very well, and that was really why I had stayed for the parade. I was there with some people from work, while my family was watching it from the warmth of home. As I headed out of town, traffic was still backed up everywhere trying to get into the city for the parade. It really was insane. Fun, but insane!! They were saying that these were some of the biggest crowds ever for any parade.

Reporting in from earthquake central. Everything is ok. It seems we get minor tremors every so often. This one woke me out of a not so sound sleep. I thought with all the wind and snow a plow hit something.

I realize I never mentioned dinner again last night. We had pork chops wild rice and salad.

Maria Hopefully you are feeling better this morning.

Sheryl Sorry you and Bob didn't get over to see the parade. Maybe that was a good thing it looked soo crowded on tv.

Just popping in some pictures. Here is the ribollita soup from the other night:

I am only planning on staying at the office until around 12 since there is a storm coming. WFD tonight is vegetable pot pies, and I am also making some braised short ribs for later in the week.

Hope all the NOLA girls enjoyed the parade yesterday! Those of you that got to see it, anyway. Sheryl, I am sorry you were not able to make it. That must have been a real bummer.

Joanne – You’re welcome, I’m the same way, get teary eyed watching it year after year.

Sheryl - I’m so sorry you couldn’t get to the parade, did you at least get to see some of it on TV?.

Lauri U – I’m going to check out your pics on fb. Every time they showed Drew or Sean I teared up! It took Johnny 2 hours to get home from work. He said the traffic was comparable to evacuation traffic.

Janice – What????? I didn’t hear y’all had an earthquake!

Becky – Have you ever posted your scampi recipe? Your pics, as usual, are amazing!

WFD - Seared ahi tuna over arugula with walnuts & gorgonzola.

Morning,

Mom was good last night when I saw her. I was glad I went over to help. I was able to help here put in the series of eye drops she needed. And Dad and her were thrilled I made dinner and even happier to see the kids. My boy brightens there days...he just loves his Grammy and PopPop. On top of the eye she is having knee issues and blew out a couple of varicose veins. Her follow-up appointment was today for 3:30pm but they are going to have to cancel because of the severe storm Becky mentioned.

Maria, get well!

Michelle, sorry about the neighbors.

Carejo, PC lost DH was not happy.

Aimee, rest, rest, rest.

Lauren, continued prayers.

Vickie, sending prayers for DN and that poor child from DS dance class.

WFD- DH is off today and we are staying put ...I am making pizza.

Ann - You are such a wonderful daughter and I know exactly how Luke makes your parents feel, Kyle did the same for mine, even as a teen.:goodvibes

Good Morning. We are home. I wanted to stay another night but with the storm I needed to leave early.

I cannot catch up but prayers for all.

Aimee, So happy for your husband and glad that you are doing good.

Ann, glad Mom is doing good. Continued prayers.

Vickie, Continued prayers for your nephew.

Janice, my friend posted on FB that she felt the quake too. Wow.

No sure what dinner will be. I took ground beef out.

Have a good day all. Thank you for everything.

I will need to be reminded of what is going on with your mom but wanted to give you hugs.

I'm really disappointed for NOLA that the parade wasn't better planned for. That could have become a really dangerous situation and it's not like they didn't know about it :confused3 Also too bad the weather didn't cooperate.

I ate a piece of chicken last night - tasted great, seemed to settle okay. Nurse told me to be smart and not eat things that make a normal person icky even if it sounds really good (like Taco Bueno which I am DYING for). I may have my colleagues bring me a decent fast food lunch today - just something other than Taco Bueno

More later

Lauren...

Kathy, I use the Barefoot Contessa recipe for my shrimp scampi. I found it posted on the food tv site, and it looks like the one in my cookbook, so here is a link:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/linguine-with-shrimp-scampi-recipe3/index.html

My modifications are that I use 8 ounces of pasta for this amount of shrimp and sauce (and actually, I think 6 ounces would be better), I do not add the olive oil, and I also reserve some of the pasta cooking water to thin the sauce as needed. I also use more red pepper flakes than she calls for.
