No one can say we don't know how to throw a party!;)

Saints game tonight...Who Dat !!!!!!!

WFD - Boiled shrimp with corn, potatoes, sausage & garlic.

Good Morning!

Princess- I am so sorry to hear that your DH may have a disease rather than a illness. I am not sure what Menieres disease is but I pray that the diagnosos is not correct.

Goofy- I am so glad you are on the mend!

Ellen- Happy Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am I the only one who comes to this party empty handed but ready for cocktails and cake??????? Glad that Matt is home!!!

Becky and Laura- I never welcomed you back home! I saw some pics of your vacation on FB and thought that the kids were having a ball! I hear you on the DIsney thing though, Kady is sick of WDW as well:scared1:

KAt- Who Dat!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marilyn- I was dying when I saw the key issue, I could just hear MArisa."I hate stupid people" over and over. SHe sits preetty much alone with her coworker. SHe has no patience for some of the things people say at work so this is better :rotfl2:

SOS--- I know I have shared this story before but I have to again. I had a dear friend who was raised during the depression and whose DH was a Marine during WWII. She was this itty bitty lady and he was a big burly guy. Well, she used to manage the household money and like most folks who had to stretch their dollar she was very good it it. They traveled a lot but she liked to go more than he did so when she wanted an extra trip she would start shaving off of the food budget and make dishes that were some of the old standby's. SHe was saving for Hawaii so that meant a lot of stretching so she started telling her DH that she was feeling very expansive and was going to feed him well by making some of his favorite memory foods.

SOS......cabbage soup........you get the picture??????

She was a fabulous cook and her specialties were southern foods that she learned from some of their friends so he drooled over these comfort meals but she managed to save enough for a top of the line trip to Hawaii by making creamed chopped beef....a lot!

She pushed her "I am a fabulous frugal wife who spoils you, William" too far when he wanted to double wrap a sandwich in waxed paper and she said they could not afford two layers. He owned a print shop and finally told her that he did not know how much peanut butter or cookies cost but he knew the cost of paper and he also knew there was plenty of money to pay for it :lmao:

Turns out that all those years he knew exactly what she was doing but he did not want to spoil her fun by letting her know. Donny adored this couple, they were like grandparents to my kids. Anna and he have a Memory vase that will hole roses for those not able to celebrate their wedding and Jeanne and Bill are there. Bill taught him so much, he was the first man in Windsor to be celebrated for being a "Bridge Builder". He was a Black Marine during a time when that was not a great position to be in, he was the first African American police office in Windsor and was the first African American bus driver in Hartford. We still hear stories from friends who were :rolleyes1 if Officer B showed up when they were up to no good. He would haul their naughty little butts home to their parents and make them explain themselves. :rotfl2:He was a Shriner and took a group of kids all over on those little motorcycle things. He took kids into his print shop and taught them a solid work ethic. Most of the kids he mentored needed a man in their life. He finally agreed to go and discuss race relations in high schools all over CT by sharing his life story. He never really knew how he touched so many people but when he was not well and constantly letting himself run out of things he knew that Donny would stop at the store and pick up things that someone had already dropped off and then hit the burger shop and bring him the messiest burger he could find.promising never to tell Mrs B. Can you tell I miss them? :sad1::sad1:

Oh, Nancy...:hug:...what a wonderful story. :goodvibes I can tell how special these people were to you.

To everyone else: who's still a bit tipsy from last night's drinks and party? Come on, be honest. :teeth:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's Saturday! It's Saturday! :banana::banana::banana:
Tonight is date-night in. I'm still not up to traveling away from the house. :laughing: We're watching "Insidious" and having good food.
UncleR is making my birthday pie today. She makes a loooooverly lemon pie. Yes, I will be taking pictures and will post the recipe with them. It is my favorite thing she makes.
WFD: (Finally!) Aimee's honey chicken lime enchiladas with a side of homemade queso.
It felt so good to sleep in this morning. It was exactly what I needed!
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
Hello again! I tried to post earlier,but had to quickly shutdown my computer. We had a thunderstorm and the lights were flickering.All is good now.
So far today I cleaning out my house freezer, I'll leave the garage freezer for another day o fun.
I don't think I need any more frozen rolls,hotdogs or fish.
I have Italian beef cooking in the crock pot. We will have that with some of the rolls and veggies.
Whoooooo Hooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:
Just saw that I had a message on the answering machine. It was a lady from the Library. Someone from our front desk at work called about some "items" I left there! IT'S MY KEYS!!!!!!! :banana:They called them because I have a Library key tag on there!
Tomorrow when the man calls from the dealership I am going to see how to get a second one made. :rolleyes1
And the Ravens won too! :rotfl:
Glad they were found!
Happy Belated BDay, Ellen!!!
Princess, keep us posted on his MRI. :hug:
I talked to my doctor last night and I'm on a mostly liquid diet for the weekend to give my "system" a rest. Hopefully it'll feel better soon.
Tonight I'm hosting a swim party/dinner for families... DH will eat there :)
Hey all! Hope you're having a great day! Looks like I missed quite the party!! Hope you enjoyed it, Ellen, since it was in your honor!
We got our stove installed yesterday, and it looks wonderful! As soon as I can pry the cables away from Alan, I'll post some pictures! I can't wait to try it out! I thought it would take a long time, but it actually only took a couple of hours. And it was way cheaper than the estimate, too! Love that!
Once the stove was in, we bathed the kids (quickly) and drove a couple of hours north to the town where DH's best friend lives. His daughter got married a couple of weeks ago, and they had an open house last night. It was so much fun! She's such a darling girl, and they boy she married is darling, too! I was amazed at how skinny she is! I asked her what size her dress was and she said, when they bought it, it was a size 0, but they had to have it taken in 3 times. Each time, the woman doing the alterations couldn't believe she needed it taken in more! I swear this girl weighs maybe 90 pounds, dripping wet!
After the open house, we grabbed some pizza and began the long trip home. We made it through the front door just after midnight, and then crashed in bed!
No idea what's for dinner tonight. I'm hoping Alan will agree to a date! We'll see!
Nan – Great story, they obviously hold a very special place in your heart.:hug:
Jen – I feel like I’ve been partying all night, too bad I wasn’t.:rotfl: Enjoy your birthday meal, it sounds great! We had the honey lime enchiladas last weekend, they were very good!
Janice – Stay safe during those storms. Have you posted the Italian beef recipe?
Aimee – I hope your liquid diet works and you feel better soon.:hug:
Glynis – Glad to hear the stove install went well and can’t wait to see the pics!
Kat The Italian beef is on the previous thread. Boy does the house smell great:thumbsup2
Wish me luck I am taking A out for round 2 of the shoe shopping. We better come home with some shoes.pirate:
I am hopelessly lost as usual. My ILs came for dinner tonight, so I made grilled swordfish with Thai red curry sauce, pineapple fried rice and green beans. The swordfish was only partially grilled because I ran out of gas halfway during the cooking process. I hate that. The pineapple fried rice was my favorite part of the meal.
Robin -- Liam isn't great with any of the swimming strokes, but he sure can swim. I know how to do the crawl stroke, but whenever possible, choose not to use it.
At this point, every 4th grade teacher has 38 students in his/her class.
That is way too many students in a class! I have to tell you that Caili always ends up getting the teacher I don't want. So far, it has always worked out, and she has done fine. Did your twins have a particular summer reading list? Caili didn't have anything specific she had to read, just five books of her choosing. Have the twins read The Penderwicks? Caili loves that book. I hope all works out!
But we're not doing my big birthday celebration until this weekend.
Happy Birthday! And welcome!!
Aimee-- I'm so sorry you are hurting. I hope you feel better soon.
I got a little heavy handed with the siracha, god I love that stuff.
I love it too! My kids think I am allergic to it though because I always have to get up and blow my nose when I make dishes with it in it. :laughing:
Ellen -- Happy birthday!!
Okay, that is all I have for today. We had the big discussion about Santa last night with Caili. Liam brought it up. Caili was fine with the news. I don't think she was ever comfortable with the idea of some strange man sneaking into the house, even if it was to leave presents.
I hate when I run out of gas in the middle of grilling! :mad:
And glad the conversation went well! :goodvibes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We just finished with dinner. OMG. Aimee, those enchiladas were delish! J came out and promptly said: "Those were delicious, mom!"

UncleR made my lemon pie for my birthday dessert. I haven't had any yet, but I thought I'd share some pics and the recipe.

Lemon Fruit Pie

Ingredients:

2 large lemons
2 cups sugar
4 eggs well beaten
package of 2 pie crusts

Slice lemons paper thin. Mix in 2 cups sugar and let stand for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Beat 4 eggs, add to lemons and sugar.

Put mixture in unbaked pie crust. Top with top crust. Sprinkle sugar on top of pie.

Bake at 450 for 15 minutes and then at 375 for 20 minutes, or until knife inserted comes out clean.

How did I miss a party & 4 pages of chat! :sad1:

I wasn't here Friday because I had a dentist appt. It was supposed to be the prep to order the crown, but I told him the tooth was still bothering me. Well I had to have the root canal in that tooth done again! Only for him to see that the tooth has cracked down to the gum line since the 1st root canal! He thinks the root may also be "cracked" and that's causing the pain. He wants me to wait 2 weeks to see if the pain improves, if not I'll have to see an oral surgeon. To have the tooth pulled! Thank God it's on the top & the last molar in the back. He said I may or may not feel that I need the tooth for chewing. If I feel like I need it, I will have to have an implant. I was in terrible pain last night but it has improved today & I was able to eat.

Kat, Watching our Saints tonight has caused dinner not to sit very well. Ugh!

Ellen, I hope your birthday was wonderful!! Glad you have your boy home!! :hug:

Aimee, I'm so sorry that you were in so much pain! I know you probably live with some pain most of the time, so this must have been really bad.:sad1: Prayers that you can start eating soon, without any pain!! :flower3::hug:

Jen, I'm glad you're root canal wasn't bad & that it relieved the pain!

Becky & Laura, So glad y'all had a wonderful trip!:goodvibes

Nan, I love that story!!:goodvibes
I'm very sad to hear that you've been hurting since that fall! :sad1: You are starting to sound a lot like me, a pain here a pain there... That's not good! I hope the PT helps!
You are so right about missing my helper & feeling it! Jude isn't even moving around much, but I was up & down all day! Laying on the floor to play with him on his play mat, his swing, etc. Ugh, I sure did miss my girl! Don't know quite how I'm going to handle it when he starts getting around, but I WILL!!! ;)

Glynis, I pray that the twins get a great teacher & that your worries are all for naught!:flower3::hug:

Princess, I sure would love to meet you next year! .... but I don't know about the 1st week of October. This is our 5 or 6th year going in October. We have done the beginning of the month, the middle & the end. Weather wise we really love the temps in the middle or nearer to the end of the month.

We had take out again today & I am sick of it! I did start cooking a pot roast for (hopefully) having the family over for lunch after church tomorrow.

I'm sorry if I forgot someone or something!:grouphug:

Sheryl - I'm sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with that darn tooth.:hug: I had similar issues years ago with my last molar in the back and ended up just getting it extracted and I'm so glad I did. I don't miss it at all as far as chewing is concerned and it would have been money thrown away had I chosen to try and save it.

We finally got our class assignments TODAY! Lucky for me (and maybe the principal, too), we ended up with the teachers we wanted. And the class sizes are manageable. 28 kids in a class instead of 38!

We have never had a summer reading list from the school. However, my kids have to read 30 minutes a day during the summer, anyway. Once they get into high school, they will have summer homework through the school, but nothing for now. I love the Penderwicks! What fun!! Glad Caili likes it!

We need to have the same talk with the twins, but I'm waiting until there next birthday. I think they know, but are afraid to ask.

I remember when A got to that age he was afraid if he mentioned that he didn't think there was a Santa the presents would stop:rotfl2:. I just wish for my budget the Santa was real;)

Yes we came home with shoes,plus a found a coupon so the shoes were at a price I was happy with. He found some Vans he seems to be into skate shoes.:confused3

WFD is porcupine meatballs mashed taters and cucumber salad.

I found some figs at Costco so I will make fig cookies.

Some how I must have picked up some bug last night I felt like a had a fever. 1 advil later and I feel fine :confused3

Jen that pie looks so good

Laura Thanks for reminding me that I better get my spare tank filled.:thumbsup2

Sheryl Sorry your tooth is giving you such trouble. At least it should be behind you by F&W time.

Glynis 28 kids is still a lot. Do your teachers get help when class sizes get so big. A's teachers used to get student teachers for at least part of the year. I am glad they got the teachers they wanted

Janice - Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Laura – I remember when we had the Santa talk with Kyle. He was excited because he didn’t have to send a letter to the North Pole anymore. It would be much quicker just handing it to me…lol!

Jen – That pie looks amazing!

WFD - Grilled chicken and potatoes with a garlic oregano vinaigrette and roasted green beans with shallots and hazelnuts.

Good morning! It's a cloudy day here, which makes it less hot, but more muggy. Oh well. Maybe it will rain and cool things off a bit!

I know that 28 kids per class sounds like a lot, but that's really kind of the norm, here. Sad, I know, but our teachers get used to it. As long as it's under 30, they don't generally complain.

Alan and I went to dinner last night at a local Mexican restaurant. I was hoping it would be good, but it really wasn't. I had a plate with a chicken taco and chicken enchilada. The taco was tasty, but the enchilada had no flavor, at all! It was like they had boiled the chicken, rolled it in the tortilla, and forgot the spices and sauce. Ick! If (and I stress the if) we go back there, I will stick with the tacos.

After dinner, we went to see Cowboys and Aliens. I was quite surprised that I liked the movie! I'm not a Western fan, and I really don't like scary aliens, so I wasn't expecting much from the film, but it was surprisingly good! The producers and directors were really true to the Western genre. It's hard to explain, but I'd love to hear what anyone else thinks, if you've seen it.

Dinner tonight will be barbecue chicken drumsticks, corn on the cob, some kind of starch, and a snickerdoodle cake for dessert. I'm thinking we need one last Family Fun Movie Night before school starts up this week.

Sheryl - I'm so sorry your tooth is causing you pain! I hope that you can figure it all out, soon!

Oh nooooo. I hope you get this taken care of soon.

I've really learned, tooth pain is the worst pain. I would have rather had my hysterectomy again than be dealing with that tooth pain.

:hug:

And, take care of yourself. You don't want whatever was rearing its' head at you to make a reappearance.

What a lovely date night. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last night was date-night in for us. We watched "Insidious", which scared the poo outta me. :lmao:
We ate good food, went to bed late, and woke up at 9:30! :scared1:
Tonight's dinner is mongolian beef, again courtesy of Aimee. I'm thinkin' I'm just going to count Aimee's blog as my new favorite cookbook. :lmao:
Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!
I know, I know, it is shocking to see me here two days in a row. Tomorrow is a long day at work, so I figure I should probably get caught up while I can. Today is usually our family dinner day, but everyone but me and the kids are at Tanglewood this weekend. The kids and I are having fish tacos.
Glynis -- I'm glad you are happy with the school assignments. 28 is a big class, but that is the size the fourth grade classes in our old town were. There is a new Penderwicks book out, just FYI. Caili wanted to buy it when we were in B+N the other day, but it is still only available in hardcover.
Janice -- I'm glad you are feeling better. Take it easy today. My brother milked the Santa story for years thinking the presents would stop if he admitted knowing the truth.
I remember when we had the Santa talk with Kyle. He was excited because he didn’t have to send a letter to the North Pole anymore. It would be much quicker just handing it to me
:laughing:
Sheryl -- I'm sorry you are having such trouble with your tooth. I hope you can resolve the issue soon.
