The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

I think we should, but maybe instead of maintaining a recipe index, we can promote our monthly "cook along" dinners. Maybe have a list of what we cook each month and if someone is ambitious enough to post links to the recipes and pictures, whatever is posted.

WFDT? Well, we spent and absolutely GORGEOUS day in upstate NY, visiting a new winery (well, it's not really new, but it's new to us! ;) ), followed up by a visit to Warwick, where we stopped and had THE MOST AMAZING burgers and homemade fries at Eddie's Roadhouse Bar, which specializes in local beers...

....momma's not cookin' today!

WFDT? Cauliflower soup.

I took DS to see How to Train a Dragon 2 today. I think it's better than the original.

Happy Monday all,

Every year we grow zucchini in our garden, but this year we decided to grow yellow squash. I picked it when it was bright yellow and was about 2 - 2-1/2" diameter and is still fairly 'seedless'. I sliced it about 1/2" thick, but diagonally to resemble slices of french bread. I drizzled some extra-light olive oil over it, added a little s&p, garlic powder , and a liberal amount of grated parmesan cheese. Mix and 'marinate' for about 15 minutes. Grill on a hot grill [I use the top grill, not the one closer to the fire] about 5 minutes on each side. After flipping on the grill, sprinkle a little bit more cheese on top. Serve on a platter.

Thank you so much for this. It sounds really easy and oh so good. I can't wait till I have squash.
The winery sounds like a good time and the burgers must have been delish. Anything tastes good if I don't have to cook it. ;)

PIO ~ Welcome home. Where did you go for vacation? I agree - it is always nice to get away but sleeping in your own bed is wonderful.
That soup sounds like something I would love.

Alison ~ I agree we are getting to the point where we are needing a new home. I was thinking of that a couple of weeks ago.
Loved your spa day!! ;)

Wow, what a blast the last 3 days were. But if I was to be truthful, I am glad to be at work this morning. As much fun as we had and as busy as we were, last night I was so tired. Those kids kept us hopping. We grilled steaks last night and all through dinner we never said a word to each other. We got about 1/2 done and started laughing. You forget how much noise babies and people can be and how use to the quiet you really do get. I wouldn't trade it for the world - but I do like my quiet also.

WFDT ~ Steak salad with cheese sticks. Doug is golfing league tonight so I suppose he will eat at the Country Club.

Make it a great day all!!

....thoe burgers really were so good...not overcooked, not dry, and not 'refrozen' tasting....

Morning girlies,

Kimmar ~ sometimes when you get a burger out I know exactly what you are saying.....refrigerator taste, rewarmed - :crazy2:

PIO ~ Oh I can't wait to read about it. I am so enjoying your "Anyone Game" TR.

Nice quiet night last night. Almost too quiet!! It was really hot and stormy so I couldn't even go for a walk and TV right now is rubbish. I played on my Ipad for awhile and to be truthful with you was completely bored. I couldn't wait for Doug to get home. I talked his leg off - poor guy!!

WFDT ~ Misty's (a wonderful steakhouse here in NE) marainated pork chops, jacket sweet potatoes and cucumber salad.

Make it a great day all.

Wednesday night here. Dinner at mum's. All's well in my world. :goodvibes

Ellen - You're hot and stormy. I'm cold and rainy here. Winter has hit with a vengeance. Hope you got some company!

Beautiful Summer day - wish we could enjoy it together!!

PIO ~ I know - just blows my mind that we are in summer and you are in winter. When we go to Panama and the temps are only 90-100 I have to remember they are in their winter also. Their summer is Jan., Feb., and March when it is over 120. With 99% humidity :scared1:

We were almost finished with dinner last night and the phone rang and it was Elizabeth and she asked what we were doing. She then proceeded to say that we needed to come get Liam - NOW!!! :confused3 :rotfl: They were taking the rock and such out of the bed in front of the house and replacing it with mulch - looks SO much better. But a 2 year old was NOT helping. So we finished up real fast and away we went to rescue Liam. :rotfl2: We played all night, well until the skeeters started eating us. We caught lightening bugs, played with the frogs, rode the tractor (he was in heaven), jumped on the trampoline, and threw rocks in the creek. Came in about 9, gave him a bath and took him home. We had SO much fun!!

WFDT ~ Grilled Cheeseburgers, sliced tomatoes and tator tots. We eat so extravagantly!!

Make it a great day!!

Just popping in to say "Hi!" Today we head up to San Luis Obispo for the annual car club event. That means four nights of no cooking! I have no idea what will be for dinner tonight. I just know we need to get out of bed and get going! The car is at the shop. It needed new shocks, wheel bearings, and something else. We need to load it and get on the road!

Ellen - Sounds like a very happy happenstance all round. You got Liam for company and Elisabeth got her home maintenance done.
Grilled cheeseburgers are on our fortnightly rotation meals here. :thumbsup2

Alison - Have a great trip to SLO. Enjoy the cars!

WFDT?

We had steak & ribs on the grill, baked potatoes and roasted yellow squash.

I've pulled some sea bream out of the freezer for dinner tonight.

I just need to figure out how I'm gonna cook it and what sides to serve with it.

WFDT? I kept it simple. I made Fish and Chips for dinner. I dusted the sea bream with flour, dipped it in egg and then coated it with breadcrumbs. Place on a tray and cook in an oven set at 190 C for 12 - 15 minutes.

I got some potato wedges from the supermarket and cooked them in the oven as per instructions.

A green salad on the side; and I had some roasted bellpeppers in the fridge that also came out as a side.

Everyone enjoyed dinner tonight.

Good morning all,

Alison ~ Happy and safe travels!

maslex ~ nothing better than grilled steaks and ribs. I'll take the leftovers. :lmao:

PIO ~ I have never made homemade fish and chips. That is something I need to try. hummmmmmm:confused3

Kimmar ~ I think you are right. I learned a long time ago that PIO fixes a lot of things I have never heard of. :rotfl2: But they always look and sound amazing.

When I woke up this morning I turned the news on and they said that we got 1.30" of rain. I got dressed and went downstairs and asked Doug if he heard it rain last night and he went :crazy2: GOOD GRIEF you didn't!!! Nope didn't hear a thing. I guess we had 60mph winds, violent lightening, hail and it poured, not once but twice during the night. When I looked out, I saw that we lost a few trees in the wind break and there were leaves and branches all over. The road into town was a mud hole. Of course I just washed my car and now it is a mess again. Just as well that I didn't hear it as I would have been a nervous wreck. We are to get the same today and again tonight.

WFDT ~ Lemon shrimp pasta, green salad and a crusty baguette, if it's too rainy for Doug to golf tonight. Otherwise an egg sandwich for me and he is on his own.

Make it a great day!

WFDT? Turkey burgers and cheese-filled jalapenos from the garden...
