The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

PIO- I was so jealous that a fellow DIS'er was eating in your home and boy, was I right to be!

Doug tried it with Stephanie about 3 months ago - I watched from my comfy chair - and he lasted about 15 minutes. There is no way I am trying it. No WAY!! Bless your heart for trying and sticking with it. I am in awe!!

Nan ~ I am so glad you had a good weekend. I have had fun following along on FB. How proud you must be!!

!

You have me laughing! Many years ago there was some oversize series on video (that was long time ago ) :lmao: so my cousin and I rented them. And watched them from the couch. Several times. :cool1: And then brought them back.no late fees for us! And then when Donny was working at Strawberries I had said I wanted "Buns of Steel" I said it a lot! So Donny, in all his 18 YO glory, picked it up, hid it until he could get it rung out, took a lot of kidding from his coworkers and then gave me my brand new get perfect buns video. I have to confess I never did it, not once! Never did tell Donny though :)

Merle ~ Busy weekend? Did you get any time for yourself?

Yesterday when I came home. I took the girls, met up with my Dsis, dropped off the big one and took the little one to breakfast and shopping. Found a really cool two story Target. On the way home I stopped at the pet store and the grocery store then went home and did nothing but read and watch TV.

Saturday was horribly hot,. I took both DN's and my youngest godson to the Fair :crazy2: Two of the kids and I ended up not feeling too good so we took a nice break in the shade, had water and pizza then, feeling a lot better, went back to the rides and games. And $16 later now have a new pet, a hermit crab named Anaconda, hence the trip to the pet store. :rolleyes2 I did not want more goldfish and the little one had her heart set on a hermit crab so I caved.

You are a good Aunt, Marilyn! When we went to visit Deb a few weeks ago she was going to buy Kady a critter and Marisa just about  :lmao::lmao:

Seriously, it was hot and a break was in order to avoid getting ill.

Alison ~ How are you and Fran doing. I think of you often?

Well things have taken a strange twist. It's amazing what death reveals. She was hiding all kinds of secrets like that her license gad been suspended, massive amounts of bills that had been sent to collection. It's staggering. It's like we didn't even know her!

Marilyn, what a wonderful Aunt you are!

Nancy, it cracks me up how much Buddy likes his sandwiches! Glad you had some fun and relaxing.

Last night I made a small Prume Rib. Very tasty! Now we have leftovers!

Allison- she never could have shared her financial issues with you. I bet all she was willing to let you know was that her finances were not as secure as yours were and that must have been difficult for her to do. A lot of people tend to avoid those people who fr one reason or another mismanage their money and she wold have wanted you to approve of her.

I don't for a minute believe you and Fran would have had this reaction but I do believe that Arline had been subjected to that attitude before. She trusted you both enough to let you know she was not well off. You also know that she was impulsive, her decision to ignore safety precautions showed you that. You knew her, you loved her and she was your friend. You are hurting. :grouphug::grouphug:

Tuesday night and it was our standard baked potato meal tonight. Tomorrow is Wednesday and I'll be asking for a doggy bag from my mother. Work is planning to have after work drinks for team building. I have to admit that much as I like my team colleagues and am happy to have drinks with them, I'd much rather head home to my mother for dinner. Still....given that this group rarely has time to come together for these social drinks, I kinda feel compelled to go.

Ellen - Hope that your work week has started as well as can be expected. And that you got some food....:)

Nancy - Anytime you want to come over for a meal, let me know. :thumbsup2

Alison -

Diet Dr Chill - I've been MIA off and on for a bit on the thread. I don't think I've seen you post here before; so WELCOME! :wave2:

Morning, everyone! Today is leftover shredded BBQ chicken with coleslaw and I may roast some zucchini. A guy Scott works with has a garden and brought him a HUGE zucchini. No kidding, that sucker is bigger than an eggplant!

Brandi- your story cracked me up! Bless your heart.

Alison- I also think of you guys often. I hope you are doing ok.

Hey, I thought I would share a good before and after to share my progress. The before picture is from Christmas. I chose it because you can really see the weight I've lost in my face. The second picture was taken this weekend when Scott and I went to Atlanta for the day.

As you can see, Scott has lost some weight, too! Sorry the pics are so big. I have no idea how to make them smaller.

Lindsay - congrats on the weight loss. You and Scott make a gorgeous couple. Thanks for sharing.

Brandi,
I'm glad you can laugh at you situation! I would be in the same boat! I gained about 70 pounds since I met Fran. I've managed to lose about 15 of those pounds and my first goal is to shed less than 5 more. I'm going to set my goals in 15-20 pound increments after that.

I am sure that is what I should do too, but right now my goal is to make it thru these stupid videos, I don't care if I lose anything, I just want to make it!

Good Monday Morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ellen- Thank God for some rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it is too late for the crops but still, that rain must have been an awesome sight!

Brandi- I am in awe! Marisa dragged me to the gym the other day and I made it ten minutes on the bike. Yup- 10 torturous minutes. You rock in my exercise repressed world!

No cooking for me the past few days. Friday I bought a grinder for Buddy because it was just too darned hot to cook and I wanted a pedicure.

The weekend was spent on the Cape. No, we did not get to see the Cape, we were following 5000 bikes from Sturbridge to Provincetown. Deb participates in the Pan-Mass Challenge, which is a huge fund raiser for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Institute. 190+miles on a bike in the August heat and as in Sunday's case, rain for some. It takes two days but it was the most impressive thing I have ever seen. Some of the teams came from New York and Vermont. On bikes. And had to wheel themselves back after the Challenge. I think Deb said it was another 200 miles added on. My measly ten minutes at the gym is almost embarrassing.

Anyway, we ate well. I had a variety of fried seafood from one end of the Cape to teh other and back again. Along with several sample (cones) of homemade ice cream. And all kinds of iced coffee! Along with a glass or two of wine. Fabulous Weekend! GOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Deb!

10 minutes is pretty good... Keep it up!

I am not doing great by any means, I am just trying, which hopefully gets me an A for effort...

Fried Seafood.... not a good combo for the Insanity workout...

Morning Ladies,

Brandi ~ You just made me laugh. Oh sweetie bless your heart. All 3 of my kids have done P90X and Insanity. They love it!! I really think they are a bit deranged.

PIO ~ Wow, I sure wish I had been at your table. Your food porn looks amazing. I am hungry now!

Alison ~ How are you and Fran doing. I think of you often?

Merle ~ Busy weekend? Did you get any time for yourself?

I just can't believe how fast the weekends go. I was so not ready to be back at work this morning. It is a beautiful morning and I wish I was out enjoying it.

WFDT ~ Liver and onions (Doug has been begging - we both love it), boiled potatoes, steamed yellow squash and sliced tomatoes.

Make it a great day!!

All I can do is laugh.... I mean or cry.... I must say it is getting easier, each day I make it a little further.... yesterday was our day off and I had to work late, such a long day but I came home and got to sit on the couch and not try and kill my self.

That's all I can make it too before my girl bits start to get numb. :rolleyes1 But I find that the more distracted I am by music and reading, I read a book on my phone, the less time it seems to take. And I had also started with 2 miles, just under 10 min., went to use the machines, then came back for another mile or so.

Also by doing it that way I could make it a goal to try and do less time for the miles then I did the week before. :thumbsup2

Lindsay- looking good. :thumbsup2

Dinner tonight is grilled ham steaks, spinach, grilled summer squash and baked potatoes for Bud and Kady. I think Buddy's cousin is coming over but she is not reliable so we'll see.

Morning, all! Today it's Italian mini meatloaves with roasted zucchini that I decided not to make yesterday.

I hope you all have a great day!

Morning everyone...

Well we made it another day. I can now feel the difference in my cardio ability and my feet don't hurt as quickly, so progress is being made, I can now make it to 9 minutes! Whoop! :rotfl:
