The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

Those are a great color match! I'd do the first options -- circle skirt with over layer. You could run a cord through the top seam and try it gathered to see how you like it before you commit. Ruffles SUCK to sew. Keep it simple!
I have a gather foot which *should* make things really easy. 😉

Marathon costume. Currently puzzling through what shorts/leggings to wear under the sparkle skirt. I mis-remembered the pocket situation on the Capri leggings I was planning on🤦🏻‍♀️ Also need to figure out stabilizing the headband as it is more floppy than I was expecting and it wants to slide off the back. Probably some Velcro on the band or hair pins and/or clips.

I'm literally starting to pack and have not yet finalized my 10K costume! I'm leaning into the adventure/mystery theme and thought I might resurrect my Jungle Cruise Skipper/Rey mashup from the last SW races I did. When I pulled it out, it didn't feel Rey enough, so I started playing with some Crowned pieces to mix it up. Thoughts on any of these combos? I also have the bra that goes with the darker skirt. I'm open to other ideas, too! I also thought about repeating Amelia Earhart from my local 5K using the OG costume without the sashes, but add the aviator hat and scarf?

OG costume. Feels a bit TOO much JC, not enough Rey.

Swap out just the skirt? Still feels a bit more JC than Rey.

Swap out both skirt and top (force fighter bra). Too confusing? I could do the tan skirt from above.

Agree Inlike the top one. But I LOVED your Amelia Earhart costume and really vote for that. Wonder if you wanted to Disney it up if you add chipmunk ears for a Gadget mashup

My concern with that costume is hot it is. That fake leather jacket was awful in 40 degree weather! I'm still considering it...

First time “running” with a wig. Glad it’s jug a 5k! (Costume is Mara Jade from Star Wars books.)

I’m doing a Grand Admiral Thrawn bound for the marathon, and made my sign today. It’s a play on his death scene when he says, “but it was so artistically done.” I have no idea if I’ll actually carry it for the entire marathon, but I hope I’ll get some good pics in MK at least. 😝 (I will be painting a rank bar, code cylinders, and pips on the shirt to make it look like the Grand Admiral uniform.)

@The Expert I like the bottom one enough. I feel like going heavier on Rey, and then accessorizing to bring in the JC side of things will be more obvious. If you have access to a JC-style *hat* instead of ears, I think that would pull JC a little more, but also probably be a nightmare to run in and you'd end up carrying it.

As familiar as I am with both SW and JC, a mashup of them would not occur to me, which leads me to say maybe go with one or the other. Just my 2 cents worth; maybe the mashup is easier to see in person.

Calling my costume experts on this thread...for those of you who have run in tutus (with a thin liner under the tulle) and bike shorts, do you find it manageable during a full marathon? I can do the tutu for a half (with no issues) but have never attempted it for a full. DH just messaged me to ask if we want to run in tutus for the full (NOW??! NOW he asks? 🤦‍♀️) but I would love input from those of you who have done it. 🫶 Thank you for any guidance!

I've run in tutus a LOT. A couple of considerations:
- Material. A lot of cheap tutus are scratchy!
- Length. Too long and it'll bunch between your legs without a liner or skirt underneath -- you mention a liner so this should be okay. But if it is too short or too full, it will puff out and rub your lower arms when you walk.

If you haven't tested the actual tutu in a run, I probably would not try it for a marathon. But you could always start in them and ditch them on the course if you hate it (assuming these aren't $$$ tutus).

If you haven’t tested it on your super long runs, I’d advise against it. Even if you’re good with the half marathon distance, you don’t know how things will go on those longer runs.

Finished my wrench prop last night for the 10k! Pair of scissors next to it for scale, but it exactly 3 ft long since the guidelines said that was the limit! The back has a small strap attached so I can sling it over my shoulder when I need a break from holding it. Also made a hockey stick for the half in a similar manner. Both made out of a giant cardboard box I had left from my 3 years big girl bed mattress 🤣

Can you explain how this liner phenomenon works?

I want to be one of the cool kids that dresses up for the races but every time I try to run in a skirt, my thighs gobble it up.

Photo below is from my latest attempt two years ago where I tucked the front in so it would be too short for my legs to eat 😆

I’ve never run in a tutu, but my Sparkle skirts never ride up.
