The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

Ellen - Twice a Grandma. Congratulations. I'm so excited and happy and pleased for you!!!!!!!!

Kimmar - that chicken recipe sounds great!

What was for dinner last night? Roasted turkey thighs wrapped in bacon, mashed sweet potatoes with brown sugar and cinnamon, and broccoli....you might say it was a lil'Thanksgiving in July! ;)

WFDT? I am going to visit my brother at the rehab (yes, he had issues with his OTHER leg now...:sad1: ) so I am using the services of my best friend - the CROCKPOT! Chicken pieces with lemon, wine, and garlic!

Oh! I'm so sorry to read this, Kimmar. I hope that there is a happy ending for your brother. I'll keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Happy Hump Day everyone,

PIO ~ Thanks so much!! Actually this will be my 4th grandbaby. I tell everyone I have 2 pirates and 1 princess. Elizabeth and Jay have Ethan and Liam. I really hope this baby is another girl. But will feel very bless with a healthy baby.

Kimmar ~ So sorry to hear that your Brother is still struggling. Please know I am holding you all very close.
The crockpot is my best friend also. Your meal sounds so good and will smell even better when you get home.

I couldn't wait to tell you all!! We are thrilled. Marty and Stephanie had such a hard, long, expensive struggle to have Lilly that we had no idea it wouldn't be the same this time. They have only been off the pill for 4 months, so this was quite the surprise. I think that is why they didn't want to tell anyone till she had seen the Dr. They saw hands, feet, spine and heart, yesterday but that was about it, as the Dr. said the little scoot wouldn't hold still. Baby was very active. We are so thankful that everything looks good. She is now in her 2nd trimester and completely sailed through her 1st. They will not be finding out again what the sex is. They didn't with Lilly and they won't with this one either. They want it to be a surprise. We can't wait!!

WFDT ~ Stuffed pork chops, couscous, fruit salad.

Make it a great day!!

Wow! So much going on!

Congrats Ellen! Another bundle of joy to rock your world!

Kim, I'm sorry to hear about your brother's continued struggles. I hope that his leg clears up soon.

Brandi, I'm glad that this new diet works for you. I couldn't do it no matter how good it made me feel. I just love my meat and such.

Only three hours left on my self imposed Disney ban. :lmao: I am so looking forward to that massage! WFDT? I'm not sure how many of you are friends with Angela (ACDSNY) on FB or Fran , but Angela shared a wonderful looking cod recipe yesterday that I plan on making tonight. Along with buttered egg noodles and green beans.

Definitely relaxing today!

Sorry I am late today getting in here but................I have news!!

I am going to be a Nana again!!

Stephanie and Marty are expecting in January. She went to the Dr. this morning and he confirmed that she is 13 weeks and her official due date is January 24th. They are thrilled as we all are. Lilly just has no idea how her world is going to change.

They told Doug and I on the 4th of July, but asked to keep it quiet until she had gone to the Dr. Wow, that was hard.

I couldn't wait to get in here and tell you all.

Doug worked on the window last night and realized that the trim was only 10' and not 12' so we didn't have enough. We jumped in the car and headed back to Kearney for another 2 boards. We stopped for ice cream so the trip wasn't too bad.

WFDT ~ grilled filets, sweet potatoes and wedge salads.

Make it a great day - I know mine just got a whole lot better!!

Ellen, that is great news! Congrats!

We will see how long it lasts for me, but right now it is pretty easy, but summer time veggies are in and everything taste so good...

Have a wonderful Massage!

I will not be able to make dinner this weekend, I will try for the next month's dinner.

I am flying to Texas tomorrow, to be with my Aunt, they just called in the hospice care people, my Father is driving down and I am meeting him and we are going together.

Ellen, I like your ideas for next few months. Salad or crock pot is good for me. It will force me to get the crock pot back out and dig up some old recipes. Salad is good in summer. I can think of at least two choices I would make.

....thanks for all the well-wishes. About 2 weeks ago, thy realized that the infection in his other leg had gotten worse. He had been visiting the hospital once a week to go into the hyperbaric chamber [BTW, the math teacher in me almost wrote hyperbola chamber by accident! ] when they realized that there was an odor not conducive to healing. Needless to say, they admitted him right away, and removed part of his ankle and covered it with a man-made 'skin' graft. They had to wait 5 days for the results of the biopsy, which turned out :thumbsup2 so he was sent to a rehab. Now, they need for that gaping hole to close up so they can remove the graft and replace it with a skin one....

Brandi ~
Sorry to hear about your aunt...stay strong. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad....

That sounds like what Fran went through with her leg only luckily for her it was all outpatient and no hospitalization. I hope he heals quickly, I know what an awful process it is.

Keep us updated, Kimmar. :flower3:

....needless to say, he is in remarkably good spirits. Bergen County has a large Italian-American population, my community especially, so I went to our local Italian deli and had them make him an Italian sub on semolina bread. He ate it for dinner last night, and told me that many of the other patients were SO JEALOUS! :rotfl:
