The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl, sorry to hear about the numbness .
Lauren, I'll be keeping you in my thoughts this weekend.

Here are photos from dinner last night. I made garlic-parmesean rolls:

These are really easy. I just used purchased pizza dough and rolled them in butter and parmesean and baked them on my pizza stone (I covered the stone with foil so that the butter would not leak into the stone and make a smoky mess).

Then I just made pasta using up whatever I had left in the fridge: garlic, tomatoes, spinach, fresh mozzarella:

This morning for breakfast I had another of the rolls, split and griddled with a fried egg. John was kind of mad that I ate garlic for breakfast.

Tonight we are going to my parent's house for dinner and my Mom is serving chicken pot pie. I'm not sure what else, if anything, is on the menu. It is absolutely miserable here today--cold and rainy. I am staying inside!

I wound up going shopping yesterday to get an outfit for the wake/funeral. Stupid me was on a whirl wind trip to the mall since we saw the Easter Bunny and Andrew gets antsy shopping so I went to Bloomies, tried on an outfit that the saleswoman recommended and bought it even though it was $444 (stupid me didn't look at the tags)! :scared1: Now, to be honest, I do not mind spending money on clothes but for a stay at home mom that basically only dresses up on ocassion (usually just Church) I can't justify that so it is being returned. It wasn't even a suit just pants, a T and a vest sweater. So, off to Lord and Taylor and got me another outfit and shoes for half the price. Teaches me to look at tags...
****************
I will not be on the computer until Tuesday probably since the wake is today (Sat) and the funeral is Monday. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts...your friendship means the world to me and has helped me deal with Charles passing. :grouphug:

1st - :scared1: on the outfit! I was raised by the cheapest mother ever and the first thing I was trained to do is head for the sale/clearance racks and look at tags. I probably would have gasped loudly when they told me how much it was!

Have you looked at Macys? After a frustrating trip looking for a dress for Easter and my sister's wedding, I ended up there and found loads of great ones on sale. They had them all $50 off so I got one for less than $50!

2nd - to you and yours this Easter weekend.

I've been wanting to go to Pei Wei - there is one a few minutes from where we live. I've actually gone into the restaurant but was discombobulated about what to order, so I left before getting in the line. Any recommendations about what to order - what are your favs?

Their pad thai is very good. Also like their honey seared shrimp/tofu/chicken/beef, whatever protein you like. The lettuce wraps are the same as at PF Changs and are delicious, we also usually get an order of pot stickers (only $4 or so for 4 of them). I like the mongolian, too.

Honestly, the only things I was disappointed in was the fried rice I had last week (no flavor) and DH said his lo mein was lacking. I've never been disappointed with the other stuff I listed.

Their iced tea is FANTASTIC. They have a chai tea and a mandarin orange. I can't drink soda so I know what restaurants have something that I can drink other than water, and they get extra points if it's a flavored tea. I can't get enough of the chai tea - so much that we eat there sometimes just so I can have tea. Or I stop by and get a big glass of it to go.

Now I'm craving it.

Today is busy getting ready for company and Easter. My dad and brother have decided to come over early so they don't have to drive over for church. DH is going to a wedding in Dallas so I think the 3 of us are going to Babe's Chicken House. It was featured in a Southern Living magazine a few years ago as one of the best places to get fried chicken. My brother hasn't been before and since he's a 25 year old boy who can eat house and home, he'll love the neverending plates of southern cooking.

Lazy has hit me today, I think it's the weather....
I'm off to bake & then I will post photos of everything.

Good day to lounge around & read but people will be pretty ticked if there isn't any dessert tomorrow for Easter brunch;) I just spoke to my cousin & the count for tomorrow is up to 30 so I may have to add a pineapple upside down cake.

Lauren, I have no words but sending you thoughts & prayers.

It does sound good, especially the lettuce wraps. I mean, we gotta try it - it's practically right around the corner! And, thanks for the tip about the iced tea. :drinking1

I'm weird, I know. But, I didn't like Chipotle the first time I tried it because everyone seemed to know exactly what they were ordering thru the line and I didn't know what to get. :confused3 We had a buy 1 get 1 free coupon, so we went back and then back again. And now I LOVE it! So, I'm off to check out Pei Wei's on-line menu.

All this talk about PeiWei makes me wish we had one near us.

Maria- 30? i thought that my 17 was a lot! We are having dinner buffet style...which i hate... and plastic dinnerware....I am not a fan....but then I am also not up to china and silver this weekend.

I have a lot done. Thanks Kat for the advice....my pineapple bake is ready to pop into the oven. I think I have the worst of it done, if not I am in trouble, I am just about out of time. We are going to the Easter Vigil this evening. Buddy's cousin is making her First Communion and is being Confirmed so we want to see her. He is going to take Kady in the morning, I cannot ask her to sit for over three hours.

How is everyone else doing with their prep?

Hey....

My prep is done.

I went to the store....I bought a pavlova...I put it in the freezer.

Job done.;)

We are at my mum's tomorrow and my input for any family gathering is to supply a raspberry pavlova.

My family know me so well...

Just got to remember to take it out in the morning....Oh the pressure !! :scared:

The only relatives I have there will be Greg, my Aunt, cousin & her 3 kids.
DM is working:sad2:
I just have my Red Velvet to do & then all the decorating.......I moved the laptop into the kitchen so I have some music, some Dis & FB.....Greg is out cold on the couch with Lily.

Let's see, the lemon blossoms are done...I HATE baking, I have no patience at all and these teeny little things took a long time. I think I'll stick to cakes and pies from now on. The pineapple bake, crawfish corn soup and mac & cheese are done. Now I'm relaxing with a glass of vino and a deviled egg waiting on Johnny to throw some burgers on the grill.:goodvibes

scotlass - Loved your prep work!!!:rotfl2:

Strawberry pie done, couscous salad done , cupcakes in the oven.

Can you believe I went to 3 stores this afternoon and couldn't find any jelly beans. I know don't wait for the last minute but with all the candy I bought I forgot jelly bean. It isn't Easter without jelly beans :confused3

I am the same way - I went to a new sandwich shop a few weeks ago and felt like an outsider  Everyone else seemed to know what they wanted and understood how the ordering went. I try to study menus online before trying someplace new so I don't miss anything

My house is spotless, the flowers are arranged, the cake is on the cake stand, flowers were planted in the flowerbeds, and the bedding for the guest room is done. I haven't even started on the food but I figure I can prep that tonight after my dad/brother gets here. I am going to do the deviled eggs and boursin creamed spinach tonight and stick them in the fridge.

This is why I just don't bother baking - it's a mess, time consuming, and I honestly hate it. I stick with real food and let Costco do my baking.

That scares me! I wanted to get some for my apothecary jar on my entryway table. Hmm.

All I have to bring is me and the kids, so I'll get a good night's rest and work on that in the morning.

It isn't Easter without jelly beans

My mom would agree. She loves jelly beans.

Lauren -- Hugs, thoughts and prayers.

Dinner today was at my ILs, so you know how that goes. We had turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus...all cold by the time they got to the table.

Hey....

Costco for Jelly Beans....ye got to buy a whole tub but hey you can never have to many !!

I did about as much prep as Scotlass. I ordered bagels and cream cheese from Panera to be picked up around 8:00am tomorrow. My SIL is insisting that I take it easy and not bring anything else.

This rain is awful today. I went to the grocery store and got frustrated by the holiday crowds. When I got home we decide to order pizza which was gross! I should have made my ravioli as originally planned.

I just assembled my Easter baskets for DS and DGS, so I guess I was somewhat productive!

:flower3:Happy Easter to everyone in case I do not get on in the morning!

Bought chocolate frosted cupcakes from Publix earlier today. And, just now got off the phone with Chili's to make sure they are open tomorrow. :rotfl:

Wow, you'd better hit the sack, you must be exhausted!:lmao:

DONE!!!!!!!!!:cool1::cool1:

Now I have to figure out how to get everything there:confused3

Don't know if you remember but last year this time my cousin was killed in a motorcycle accident in Florida.......As you can imagine my Aunt (his Mom) is having a very tough time. Tomorrow she is getting a very special present from the Easter bunny, an 8 week old "hot dog" named Angel so she'll have some special company.
She loves dogs but hasn't had one because she used to spend 1/2 the year in Florida, now that my cousin is gone the Florida house is going to be sold.
Can't wait to see the puppy:love:
