The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

....some medical issues with my DH here as well.....his 'arthritis' [which was pre-diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis] is worse than ever, especially for one who is in the construction field so he has been seeing a specialist, undergoing a battery of tests, an MRI, and X-rays. The doctor thought he may have a rare disease where there is too much iron in his body, but he got the results about that today saying it came back negative, so that's good news...
That is great news about DH. Glad to hear it is not that issue, but RA is tough, hope he finds some good drugs.

....we've moved more than 25 buckets [3 truck trips] of stuff and one of our artificial Christmas trees to my DH's storage garage....just the tip of the iceberg....:crazy2::scared::crazy:

I hear ya! We've been loading up the Expedition and taking stuff to storage and the thrift store and we still have a ton left!

Ugh. RA is no fun. If you want I can help you out with all the super pricey medicines that are out there. Fran has taken almost all of them.

....well, they haven't totally ruled out the RA, but they are thinking that maybe it is a combo of that AND Osteo....fun, fun, fun...BTW, thanks!

....I just look at all the stuff and think to myself: "What the H*LL was I thinking??"

Windy and Wild Wednesday,

Brandi ~ Oh sweetie, I was so hoping you were feeling better. Hang in there! It is so good to see you around here. I have missed you.

Kimmar ~ YEA for selling the house. I am right there with ya sista!! I have made a conscious effort to down size and go through things. We have lived on the farm for almost 30 years and we have a LOT of stuff shoved here and there. But when I go through it is very freeing. I hope to not stop!
Bless your DH. Glad the tests were negative. This getting old is not for sissys. Doug's knees have really been bothering him in this cold weather also. He had surgery a couple of years ago with a torn meniscus. It really bothers him. It's hell getting old!! I get Arthur in my thumb and it really hurts, I can't imaging it being in the hip, back, etc.

Alison ~ You are gaining. It might not feel that you are making any headway but you are. Every box you go through is progress. Just keep at it!!

PIO ~ Oh how I would love a nice hot day right now. We are bitterly cold, around 5 with wind chills of around -15. It really is taking it's toll on the livestock. As long as we can keep feed and water to them they are ok. But still there are a few that just don't make it. I know Cooper doesn't stay out very long. But he is such a wimp!!

The Birthday party was a blast. That stinker lit right into that cake. I bet she ate half of it. I am so glad we had the party on Saturday - she was so much fun and oh so happy - as yesterday (her actual birthday) she was sick. Stephanie thought it might be teeth, but she is running a temp. The good thing was she stayed home with her and they cuddled all day. Bless her.

I am swamped right now at work. I have the year end stats for the Conference due on the 31st, and the Church Directory to compile and get out, and scholarship money to disperse - I haven't even ordered it yet. :scared1: I am feeling a bit overwhelmed but it will get done. One day at a time.

WFDT ~ Hot beef sandwiches, mashed potatoes with gravy and peach cobbler.

Make it a great day!

Frigid Friday,

OH my goodness it is cold, snowy, dreary and just down right miserable here. I know I shouldn't complain, at least I am not on the East Coast and this is pretty usual for January for the Plains. I would really like to see the sun soon though. My mood is the pits and the sun, I know, will help.

Well Doug is off today and Marty is coming to help him with my new laundry room. I am so excited. I have my bags packed and I am going to Kearney to spend the weekend with Stephanie. There is no amount of money that could keep me at the house with those two and the mess I know they are going to make. But it will be so nice when it is finished. Stephanie has asked me to help her purge a few rooms. Should be fun with a toddler and a baby.

To all of my friends on the East Coast - please stay home and be safe in this weather.

WFDT ~ Spaghetti (Lilly let me know), and texas toast.

Make it a great day and a warm and snugglie weekend.

I don't know how you folks live with weather like you do. It's starting to warm back up here. I actually walked out of the house without my overshirt this morning.

Today we have to drive to Irvine and pick up yet more artwork. We already have more pictures than we can put on our walls, but Fran has got this art guy feeding her more and more pictures and we keep spending more and more on this stuff. Supposedly it's super valuable but I doubt we will ever see anything from it. Only the executor of our estate.

Tomorrow we have guys coming to the old house to get the stuff down from the attic. There probably over 100 boxes up there that need to come down and go to storage. I guess at least we are finally making progress on the old house.

Tonight we are having pomegranate roasted chicken, not sure what the veggie will be. Since I probably won't be checking in tomorrow I'll post on that. It's possible we might get rain, so we're going to make clam chowder after the box moving. I'm also going to make red lobster cheddar biscuits to go along withe chowder.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hope that the pain management is in place.

I think I'm super crazy busy right now. A lot of it is self-imposed with me chasing a few photo opportunities...but work is also kicking up more than a notch as well.

Today is a rare quiet afternoon. And my Bengal cat agrees. She decided to come and jump on the couch and is currently cuddling up next to me. I think I'll just stay here until she wakes up!!

WFDT? I have no idea. We had breakfast with friends this morning and I'm still full from that meal. :faint:

...we got hit with 20 inches of the white stuff....

I made a couple great meals over the weekend. Friday we had a whole roasted chicken with Pomegranite jus and some green beans. Super Yummy!
Saturday we made a Clam Chowder, it was supposed to be rainy, but it never materialized. We spent Saturday at the old house and moved over 200 boxes down from the attic into the rooms of the house. Now it will be a challenge to get them out of there!

Last night we went out to Disneyland and had Fried Chicken at the Plaza Inn with some friends, we went on Indiana Jones and then watched the parade a fireworks. It was lots of fun!

Tonight we moved some of the attic boxes to storage and it was late before we wrapped up so I'm waiting for some Beef Ribs, Fettucine Alfredo and salad to arrive via delivery.

...Just popping in to say hi!

Little update, we had our second daughter, Leighton Victoria on January 9. I'm tired but thrilled she's here and that she's healthy.

Well congratulations! We haven't seen you stop by for a while and now we know why! Hope things continue to go well for you!

Going to google pomegranate chicken, sounds wonderful!

You won't find the one we used. It was in an ad for Pom Juice in Rachel Ray's magazine. We lost the page in the magazine temporarily so we tried to google it to no avail. Eventually we found it on the floor, so I took a picture of the recipe for you. The only change I would make is use twice as much juice and reduce it on the stove first, so it's more of a syrup. I also had to cook it a little longer as I was using a 5lb chicken.
