The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Ellen, I'm so glad you weren't just a little earlier. What a jerk that guy was! So happy you are safe. I've seen my fair share of accidents, some I've been in some just watched. No fun at all.

Trudging back to work Thursday - We did win $18 though. WooHoo!!

I can't believe it is Thursday already. Where did the week go?!

I am really trying to sort through and get rid of "stuff." I am trying a new thing I read on Facebook. I turned all of my hangers around and as I wear something I put it back the right way. It really makes you realize there are certain things that you NEVER wear. Then you are to get rid of it if you haven't worn it in the season year. I am a very organized person, but I have suddenly realized I have way to many things I keep for one reason or another. I guess I am afraid that if I throw it away I will then need it. Lot's of organized mess!! :rotfl2:

Alison ~ Are you anywhere near where the big ticket was sold. When they said LA I thought of you and Fran.

PIO ~ Happy back to work! I hope and pray that the madness is kept to a minimum.

We are having a heatwave today and yesterday. We got into the 40's yesterday and maybe to 50 today. But then tomorrow we are to be 19 and single digit over the weekend. But we will enjoy today.

WFDT ~ Hamburgers, sweet potato fries with celery and peanut butter.

Make it a great day!

Ellen - I tried the same thing with my hangers and when I hadn't worn the clothes in about five years I still couldn't get rid of half the clothes. I have more clothes than I could wear in a year, but I still won't get rid of them!

You call that a heatwave???? I'd call that "we're not leaving the house!" We complain when the highs don't get out of the 50's!

Chino Hills is in so Cal but it's it's kind of in the boonies. It's probably an hour from me without traffic.

Tonight for dinner we may have Orange Chicken and a stir fry, but I've been putting that meal off for days so who knows?

Freezing temps are back Friday.

We knew it wouldn't last long, but it sure was nice while it did. Doug was even able to get all of the Christmas decorations down last night. They aren't put away yet (still on the front porch) but at least they aren't up anymore.

Tomorrow is Harper's 1st Birthday party, she will actually turn one on the 19th. Wow, that year just flew. She is the most precious little girl. Did any of you see the pictures on FB of her with her cake? Stephanie had a professional take "cake" pictures. They are so cute and she loved it. My favorite one is the close up. You can see it is even on her little eyelashes.

Kimmar ~ I hope you are settling back into a nice routine now that school is back on.

Alison ~ I know to you that seems cold but to us it felt warm. I even saw a few hardy people in shorts yesterday. I guess when it's below freezing for so long that when it get to be 55 it feels warm. I didn't even wear my coat yesterday afternoon. But not to worry we are in the frozen tundra again today. ;)

Matthew and Katlin are coming home tonight (for the big party tomorrow). We have plans to go to the winery tonight. I even think Jay and Elizabeth are going to join us. Should be a fun night. Then tomorrow is the party and Ethan has 2 basketball games that are timed that we all should be able to go to the evening one. He is thrilled that Uncle Matt will be there.

WFDT ~ lasagna, bread sticks and a green salad and wine, lots of wine. ;)

Make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Ellen - You remind me that I need to go through my wardrobe. And soon! Your weekend sounds fun!

Alison - Orange Chicken? Sounds yum.

Kimmar - :wave2:

Back to work and back to reality. It's going to be another busy year.

WFDT? I have no idea. We're heading out to see an afternoon show for CATS. It's been over 20 years since I've caught that production live and this revival time, DH and I figured it was about the right moment to go see it. And even DS wanted to see it. So....here's hoping that it's as good the second time round as it was the first!

Well congratulations! I hope you got a price you are happy with. And believe me, I know what can accumulate in only 17 years! 22 must be worse! It's been almost two years since we moved out and we're still working on getting stuff out of the old place!

.....we've got the 3 DSs, so there is a TON of stuff....:faint:

Good happy Monday morning my friends.

Brandi ~ I love to plan also, but sometimes I really get bogged down and I find myself making lists of lists. Thank God for Post it Notes! I have no idea how I could function without them.
I found I did a lot more shopping online than I usually do and MAN it was easy!!

Make it a great day!
I have post its all over the place, and sometimes I have to combine them when stuff gets old on them.

Sorry I have been out for awhile. I cant promise I am back but I will try.

Thankful for Drugs Tuesday,

Hi ladies! I almost feel like I might live today. I went to the Dr. on Thursday and he almost put me in the hospital. My oxygen levels were in the 80's and I couldn't get a full breath without coughing my toenails up. I had pneumonia. He started me on a Zpack. I hadn't ever even heard of this but let me tell you they worked like a miracle. By Friday afternoon I told Doug he could put the gun away - he didn't have to take me out and shoot me afterall. I truly started feeling better. And today, even though I am not 100%, I feel a LOT better. That stuff was wonderful. He also gave me a cough syrup with codeine in it. I only was able to take it at night because it made me so sleepy. But did give me the rest I needed. I asked the Dr. if we could still watch the girls and he said it would be ok. With lots of tag teaming we had a great time. Thank goodness the girls are so good. A great weekend we had.

Yesterday, I had to make the oh so hard decision to have Mia put down. We knew it was getting close but over the weekend it became apparent that her time was close. She was the best kitty and I so miss her. She was 17 and had lived a good life, but damn how I hate to make those kinds of decisions. We have Miss Sophie (13) left and she is lost without her buddy. It is so sad!

So not the best last few days, but it is only 3 days till Christmas. I don't have time to be sick or sad, so it is onward and upward. With being out of commission on the weekend, I still have some wrapping to do. When I left the house this morning I told Doug he was helping me tonight and that we weren't going to be until it was all finished.

PIO ~ I am so glad you are on break and can rest. You were working to hard. Did the project launch?

Alison ~ I think your idea is the way to go. After my Momma passed I dragged and dragged my feet going through her house. Oh it was SO hard. But then I had a few people that were interested in buying it. I was NO where ready to sell, but the longer it went I decided it was the right thing to do. So 2 of my best friends pretty much went in and boxed it all up for me. And I brought it all home. It was just too hard for me to do, as I wanted to go through everything and it was taking way to long. Best thing I ever did. So if you do decide to box it up, make a deal with yourself to go through a box every night, every day or one a week. Whatever works. You will feel so much better once it is done.

WFDT ~ We had a huge funeral here today and we served over 150, and planned for 175 so there are lots of leftovers. I am taking enough home for dinner tonight. So I don't even have to cook - just wrap wrap wrap!!

Make it a great day everyone!
Glad you were feeling better so quickly, and so sorry that you had to Mia down :(

Ellen! Oh no! So glad that you went to the Dr and that you're getting the meds and attention you need. Take care of yourself.

So sorry to read about your cat. I know how hard that decision is but I think you did the right thing for Mia.

Yes! :cheer2:

My area of delivery went off flawlessly! And it seems to have all gone relatively smoothly. So, I've switched my work phone off. Will NOT be picking up any messages nor checking emails until I go back to work! And I don't feel guilty about it at all!

Dont you love it when all your stuff works as planned.... But since my stuff goes right, I have become the fix it person and when everyone else gets in trouble I have to fix it. UGHHHH

Hi folks! I keep forgetting to check in here when it doesn't show up in my regular feed!

We had a yummy dinner out the other night, Saturday to be exact. Other than that we are staying close to home. Last night I made my trusty Balsamic Chicken with sone steamed cabbage. I forget what's on tonight's menu but it is easy.

Yesterday we took 5 boxes to the thrift store. Unfortunately we have at least 10 labeled "Save storage" and we're never going to go through them. There are at least 20 boxes already in storage saying "unpack new house". Not to mention the 100's with specific labels. Ugh.
Sorry but that does not sound like fun at all.

Ellen,

I saw that FB also, and thought that I might try it, but as you mentioned, I always feel like I might need it, but I know I have stuff that I brought to Maryland with me, which was 12 years ago. I know I dont wear everything.

Right now we dont bring in anything new with out something old going out. but it is not helping weed down the stuff.

I've been working on slowly selling "stuff" this year. The equivalent of eBay here is Gumtree....hmm.....now that I think about it....I actually think eBay bought them some years ago; so let's go with eBay.

I managed to sell DS cubby house, the kids furniture and toys inside the cubby house and some old toys that he's outgrown on eBay. So far, I'm about $800 richer.
Is it sad to admit that now...I don't want to throw 'stuff' out until after I've taken a picture of it and posted it on eBay for a couple of months? If I have no takers, then it goes out into the bin.
Unfortunately, that means that I'm holding on to 'stuff' longer than I would normally.

Monday here....and temperatures are in the 100's today and tomorrow...and possibly on Thursday as well. The AC is working overtime!!
WFDT? Home made burgers.

....we've moved more than 25 buckets [3 truck trips] of stuff and one of our artificial Christmas trees to my DH's storage garage....just the tip of the iceberg....:crazy2::scared::crazy:

Good chilly morning to everyone. 18 degrees here with a wind chill of 5 degrees.
The snow yesterday from start to melt was 3 hours, it is all gone, it was pretty as a dusting but melted right away. I think I could live with that all winter long.

With all my medical stuff going on, I just have not spent much time here, but hopefully I can get my life back in order and things will be more orderly.

Hope you all are doing well.

....not ME! [BTW - it was a tiny bit colder here....relatively speaking]

With all my medical stuff going on, I just have not spent much time here, but hopefully I can get my life back in order and things will be more orderly...
....some medical issues with my DH here as well.....his 'arthritis' [which was pre-diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis] is worse than ever, especially for one who is in the construction field so he has been seeing a specialist, undergoing a battery of tests, an MRI, and X-rays. The doctor thought he may have a rare disease where there is too much iron in his body, but he got the results about that today saying it came back negative, so that's good news...
