The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

I'm heading to the hospital. Alexis had a rough night & morning. She complained of pain all night & they ended up having to give her morphine again. The dr came in this morning & ordered a suppository, she hasn't gotten that yet. She is going to be so mad. They needed to take blood & I guess she is doing better because it took the the dr., 2 nurses & Chris to hold her down to get the blood! If the blood work looks okay & the supp. works they may let her go today. We'll see.

Aimee, Funny you should mention the Child Life specialist. The lady just popped her head into Alexis' room & told her the New Orleans Saints will be in the Child Life Room in 5 minutes! Chris said she got a big smile across her face & said "Wait til I tell Uncle Josh! He is going to be so jealous!" I've got news for her, Nana's jealous too!

Poor baby, I feel so badly for her. I'm jealous of her too!!

Nan & Vick, hope your sleeping....My doctor called in Ambian yesterday for me no luck...took the meds at 10pm went to sleep at 6:30am-9:30.

This afternoon I have an appointment with my allergist/immunologist so I will get the regular flu shot & retest for allergies.
If you have a moment please say a prayer I had a call from the breast center earlier with the results of my mammography last week & I have to go back for more views, an ultrasound & biopsy so I'm very nervous. I have never been called back.

Greg comes back from Boston this afternoon...yeah!
Last night was take out California rolls.

Maria, Prayers are being said now. I know telling you not to worry is silly, but please try not to worry! I had that happen a few years back, they saw something that had not been there before. Just to give you a heads up, they sent me to a surgeon to review it! Yeah that scared the heck out of me. He decided to watch it by doing another mammo. in 3 months. It looked the same, so he continued with mammos every 3 months for a year. Nothing changed so he determined that it was just calcium deposits. It did have me a nervous wreck for that whole year.

I'm surprised the Ambien didn't work for you. I take Lunesta & it almost always works. Unfortunately now I have to take it every night or I wide awake all night.

Today is the kids' first day of school. Caili was excited to be going, and I think Liam was too, despite himself. Now that they are back in school, I have no excuses left for my house being in the state it is in. It is time to reclaim it.

I hope that their first day is wonderful!

Don;t worry about your house. I have been trying to reclaim mine and I really have no excuses at all and it is in an uproar!

School started today at our house too, and like Laura I also need to "reclaim" my house. I down to four day work weeks now, so no excuses. The kiddo was so excited for school to start last night, she compared it to trying to get to sleep on Christmas eve, somethings not right with that kid.
.

I am so happy to hear that your little one regards school as if it was Christmas! YAY!

I don't know whether to smile or to :sad1: Poor kid, she has been through too much this week. As much as I hate to think of her fighting the nurses to hold her down, like ou, I think it is a good sign. Any kid who needs that many folks is getting stronger adn has some life popped back into her. I hate that she needed it though :sad1:

Good that she is getting to see the Saints!

That's scary. You'll definitely be in my prayers

Poor kid! I'm sure she wants to go home at this point but wrestling with her at home may prove to be difficult... hope they can get that pain under control soon.

Tonight we are grilling hamburgers and hot dogs on the fire pit. FIL made a grate thing to lay over the top of it so we can use some flavored wood and charcoal to grill. Our grill is gas so you lose some of that yummy flavor.

If it wasn't so HOT we could make an evening of it outside.

Hey all!

Quick fly by...trying to get stuff done around here while A is at school and T is napping.

I skimmed quickly so will be back to read thoroughly...

Maria, Hugs and prayers my friend! Are you taking Ambien or Ambien CR? The CR works best for us. Call me if you need to talk. xo

Sheryl, Continued prayers for Alexis.

Gretchen, Thinking of you and your Family today.

Dinner tonight will be the filet mignon, potatoes and corn from yesterday...we never ate it...long story...Tom was in the doghouse.

Have a great day all!

Hey y'all,

I'm at the hospital now, on Chris' computer. Alexis is sleeping after her rough morning, the supp. started to work & that hasn't been fun for her. But hopefully this will help her start to feel better. Don't know the results of the blood work yet, hoping it looks good & she'll get out of here sometime today. Chris & I are both worried though, because the Dr. said this morning he's taking her off all narcotics.

Laura, I hope Liam & Caili have a great 1st day of school!

Hey y'all, Still at the hospital. Doesn't look like she is going to get out, her w. blood cell count is still too high. She needs more antibiotics & her vein is inflammed, so they'll have to put another one in the other hand. :sad1:

Im so sorry you wee one is suffering.

She has been through it the wee scone, hugs and love from ower the water.

Bad day here.

The boy did boy stuff, the kind that would normally make me tut, roll my eyes or give "the Look " .

But not today...I blew...big time.

I gave my boy a hard,hard time.:sad2:

He got over it quick like 9 yrs old do, and we had laughs, games and hugs on the chair before bed but Im in tears here just thinking about it.....I feel like crap.

Im not looking for sympathy cause I dont deserve it I just need to get it out.

I know its cause Im tired but its no excuse.

My boy is a good wee guy and I gave him crap....

Vickie We all blow sometimes. Poor Alex gets it sometimes and sometimes it is the dogs. Have a glass of wine and know it will pass

Sheryl I hope the doctors monitor Alexis better. She needs to get out of the hospital they are germ ridden. I will pray extra for her. You and Chris need some rest some you two don't get sick.

Maria Try not to stress. I have been through this. Sometimes it is just because the tech had the marker in the wrong spot. Call me anytime

Vickie- don't beat yourself up, there are times when you are on your last nerve and hopefully the Boy will recognize the signs next time. Part of growing up is learning to make sure you do not push people past their limits. Home and Mom are safe to learn this lesson, you will love him even after a blow up ;)

Sheryl- Praying that tomorrow will be a better day for poor Alexis. I hope that things turn around during the night. How is chris holding up? I know you are the backbone for your family so no way you will give out until everyone is home but her poor Mom :sad2::hug:

Okay, dinner will probably be leftover spaghetti and stuff. I am going to go twith Buddy to his eye dr to keep him company on teh ride. I made a chuck wagon caserole for my brother and an extra one but Buddy won;t touch that. I also made cupcakes...the chocolate pumpkin ones that we all like. If anyone wants the recipe for the casserole I'll post it, it is easy and really tastes good!

Sheryl, your poor little sweetie. Sending prayers she feels better tonight.

Maria, prayers and good vibes heading your way. If you need to talk I am a phonecall away. Make sure your sweetie gives you several big hugs tonight.

Hope all the wee scones had a good day at school.

DH is starving gotta go grill some lamb chops now. BBL

I'm so sorry, this is so hard on all of you. Has Chris gotten any rest? Poor child has been through so much already.:sad1:

Vicki, my friend, we have all done this and not just once, I can assure you. As they get older it gets even harder but we, as mothers, do what is best for our kids. Yep, we blow it, but that's just one of the hard parts of being a Mom. You've got a great kid and you are a great Mom.

He has detached the skin at the bottom of his big toe nail.

That gives me the heebie jeebies! :scared:

Poor thing!

Went to my cousins yesterday, it was too cold for me to get in the pool, but the kids did for a little while. Had hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, salads, etc. My cousin pulled all of the basil out of his garden and gave me most of it, I am drying most of what he gave me. I also got a big bag of grape tomatoes too so I made a salad for lunch today with them, basil, a little olive oil and Balsamic vinegar.

I am not sure what I will have for dinner tonight, so many choices. I have some brats he gave me, plus I have pork that was pulled but not sauced and I had been thinking about chicken teriyaki.

Sheryl -- I'm so sorry to hear Alexis is still in the hospital. More prayers for her and for you and Chris. I hope Alexis gets a good night's sleep and wakes up feeling much better.

Maria -- I know it is hard, but try not to get too stressed and anxious about the need for further tests. I know my mom has had to go for more tests, and it has always turned out to be nothing. I hope you will hear the same good results...and soon.

Vickie -- I know your boy will understand. My boy has been on the receiving end of my outbursts (remember the Battle of Abraham Lincoln?) and we both get past it. If I know I overreacted, I always apologize. I think it is okay for him to see that I am human and sometimes get tired or cranky, and sometimes I make mistakes, just like him.

Robin -- I hope your daughter had a great first day and that you are all avoiding the water. I just heard they are now up to five great white sharks off Chatham.

Thanks everyone for wishing the kiddos well today! They both said they had a good first day. Liam is happy because some of his good friends are in his class, and Caili says she really likes her teacher. I think the highlight of her day was her new ballet class, though. She loved her teacher and she was so happy and excited at the end of it.

We just had pizza in between skating and ballet. We'll see how long this schedule lasts...I am not excited about having two activities on the same day or about eating out every Tuesday.

Good Morning!

Quick check in. Gotta get Andrew out the door in a few minutes. I guess getting up yesterday morning at 6am did him in. He was in bed by 7 last night! I guess all those late night Xbox games caught up with him yesterday.

I hope everyone is doing well...I will try and BBL to catch up. Dinner tonight will be crockpot swiss chicken and a veggie maybe grean beans.

Have a great day!

Chuckwagon casserole

CHUCKWAGON CASSEROLE

My daughter gave me this recipe: I think she got it from Pampered Chef.
1 lbs. ground beef
1/2 cp chopped onion
1/2 cp chopped green pepper
Cook above ingredients together.
Add 1 can kidney beans.
3/4 c. good quality BBQ sauce,

Pour into 8x8 casserole dish.
In mixing bowl:
1 box Jiffy cornbread (Follow instructions, using egg and milk.), stir in 1 can drained mexicorn

Spoon cornbread mixture on top.
Bake at 350 degrees for ½ hr or until golden brown.

I add more onion and pepper and some garlic. I also add a tsp sugar to the cornbread mix

Laura- I'm glad to hear that the kids had a good first day!

Dinner will probably be an eggplant casserole that I have made before if I can find the recipe

WFD - Not feeling too well, may get take-out tonight.
