The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

I need to ask for some prayers. My brother is in the hospital with pancreatitus. He has had flareups for the past few years but for him to ask to see the Dr on a Saturday the pain was excruciating. The last time I found him n his chair and refusing to call my DSIL because he knew it was her nail appointment. I really thought that she was going to murder him that night, my sweet SIL does not have a temper but she lost it. Anyway he has a cyst that the Dr has been watching but yesterday it was gone. The Dr thinks that it broke away and in lodged in a pocket from a stynt that he had, maybe this and that cheeseburger he ate caused the flareup. His pancreas is too inflamed for them to look right now, he needs to heal and cannot eat. Please keep him in your prayers and Susan as well.

We have a family picnic today that I cannot get out of, Donny and I will go. I have BBQ beans simmering now.

Oh Nancy prayers being said hope things turn out ok

Sheryl~ Hope and praying Alexes is recovering quickly.

Hey y'all, Quick checkin on Alexis. She still ran fever 101.5 last night & needed morphine & codiene. She was also dry heaving during the night, one of the antibiotics flagyl seems to really tear up her little stomach. Which is strange considering she's still getting her meds throught the IV. Good news (no way to put this delicately) but she finally passed gas. So she can try soup with the noodles! & maybe some noodles later today. She told the nurse last night that she's wants all kinds of foods she can't have "I want noodles & shrimp from the Blue Tomato, regular noodles, chinese noodles & a #8". (her own hot dog creation). But this morning when she was told she could eat, she didn't want anything. The goal for today is more walking, some eating & hopefully get her off of the morphine. Pray that the fever goes away, below 100.5 or we will never get her out of the hospital.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers, love & good wishes. :grouphug: I've told Chris of all your good wishes & prayers. She wanted me to pass on her appreciation as well. She was surprised to learn that she has people all over the country & even Scotland thinking of & praying for her baby!

As Kathy passed on our Sweet friend Gretchen called me yesterday morning! What a wonderful good person she is! With everything she is going through she is thinking of me & alexis. Amazing!

She sounded good. They are in a good place of acceptance right now. Just going through the hardest part right now. I know we are all thinking of & praying for her & her family. I just wanted to make sure we all know what an exceptional amazing person she is!

Nan, prayers for you brother. Please keep us posted.
I spoke to Gretchen Thursday or Friday.....I posted it but can't find it.

Kat, have a great visit with Kyle.

Dinner last night was burgers on the grill & salad. My cousin stopped in which was a wonderful surprise. Dessert was the huge success...frozen hot chocolate form Serendipity, a restaurant in NYC. Very simple to make & DELICIOUS!

Tonight I haven't figured out yet....something on the grill.
Staying close to home with Lily & have had an insomnia bought that is now going 5 days strong:headache:

DH and DS have been dancing to this song getting ready for our big WDW roadtrip! http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/lb/soundtracks/holidayroad.html
It is so funny, DS loves it and is so cute. By November I may go crazy...DH ordered the CD off EBAY yesterday so we can play it when we drive. Think my DH loves WDW a little bit?!!!

I am so excited because we had to move our dates up a week because of his job. I am now going to be there for the last day of the F&W festival, and the Christmas Party will also be going on. I get the best of both worlds.

WFD- depends on the grocery store and what looks good.

Your DH cracks me up  Glad you are able to hit both events!

Poor baby! It's not going to be an easy recovery for her, is it. I'm glad she got some food cravings - that has to be a good sign.

We are having tacos tonight - finally!

Quick post...just spoke with Gretchen, her Daddy passed last night very peacefully. She is staying with her Mom until her sister gets in tonight. There will be a service on Tuesday. We shared some tears together and I had her laughing a bit. She seems to be very much at peace with it and wanted me to thank everyone for their prayers and support.

Sheryl - Can you believe she even asked about Alexis? Gretchen is one amazing woman and I feel blessed to call her my friend.

Gretchen I am sorry for your loss. Your dear dad is finally at peace with no pain. Prayers for your family and Mom.

Nancy Prayers also for your brother.

Sheryl I hope Alexis' fever breaks soon so she can get back home.

We are having sloppy joes, fries and fruit for dinner.

Hey...

Gretchen,Nancy and Sheryl and her wee scone...sendin love ower the water.xxxx

Ive had a crappy weekend,3 day headache caused by my lack of sleep.

This insomnia is just doing my head in.

The boy also hurt his big toe at Karate yesterday so that not been nice.

I think I will need to take him to the nurse tomorrow...but check this..after school !!

He wants to show his mates ( and his new " hot " teacher ;) ) his war wound.

Have a good night lassies xx

Gretchen, :sad1: my heart aches for your loss. But he is finally in a better place. Strength and prayers being sent to your DM, your family and you at this difficult time. You are an amazing lady with some great friends here for you. :grouphug: Our sincerest sympathies and luv, Ann & Ron.

Gretchen--so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Lots of hugs and prayers coming your way.

Sheryl--poor little Alexis. Hope she's fever free soon. Funny all the food she's craving!

Nan--sending prayers your way as well. Hugs!

Well, Katelyn is all moved in and her parents left this afternoon. It hit me when I was grocery shopping what a responsibility we've taken on by having someone elses daughter in our house. Pray for all of us. She's a great girl and a joy to have around. However, we won't see her much. The intern program is intense; busy from 6am-10pm.

Wfd tonight was tacos per emma's request. Tomorrow is scott's bday, so we're headed out for a birthday breakfast. Then after giving Katelyn a tour of the area, we are having some family over to grill out for scott's bday party. Hope everyone else (except Vickie who doesn't get the day off) has a great Labor Day holiday!

Checking in.

Sending hugs to my friend Gretchen :sad1::hug: There is no way to prepare for losing your Daddy :grouphug:. Our poor Hailey too, she and her Grandpa were very close.

Sheryl _ am sick for poor Alexis. What a toughie cookie she is, adults would be at the end of their rope and she is ordering her favorite foods! I hope that she can eat tomorrow, she will feel better once she can hold food down. How are Chris and Ricky holding up? And are you and Bob okay?

Vickie- I would say Poor Boy but I forgot that walking wounded is a good thing for teen boys! Are you better today?

Kat how was dinner with Kyle?

My brother is out of pain today. I called my niece and she is planning to help her Mom with recipes that they both will eat. I know what he likes so after taking to my sister to find out what restrictions he should have I can start cooking some food to get them started. Susan hates to cook and keeps late hours at work but Amy is putting her foot down. A long step from AZ but honestly, neither one of them is eating a healthy diet so they end up with take out or out of a box. My brother cannot have that and sue should not either so between the two of us we are going to get tehmback on the good food track. I don't want any more scares.

Gretchen, my heart aches for you but I know your Daddy is now peaceful and pain free. Praying for comfort for you, your Mom & entire family.

Being how exceptional you are I would have been honored to have know him.

Nan, glad today was better. Thank goodness for a pain free day.

 at those hours! What kind of internship is she in?

Nan ~ I'm glad your brother is doing better today.

Dinner is now up in the air. We both forgot to thaw the ground beef for tacos. :headache:

We have open enrollment in Dec/Jan so I could opt into the dental for next year, which would help pay for part of it. Coupled with the flex spending money rolling over - I've already drained the acct for the year.

That's great.

Quick post...just spoke with Gretchen, her Daddy passed last night very peacefully.

Been a busy couple of days with one more to go. Went to the godsons football games Friday night, JV lost 41 to 20 and Varsity lost 31-28 in overtime. Yesterday I went to my DS's house so she and her DH could go to see Jimmy Buffet and today I brought the girls here to spend one last weekend before school starts for them. We're going to my cousins for a cookout and swimming tomorrow.

We stopped at Taco Bell today on our way to my house and the lady in front of me paid mainly in change, I thought "just like the commercial except she has quarters" :rotfl:

Dinner tonight was French toast and sausage on the deck, it was really cool and breazy out there.

Vickie- I would say Poor Boy but I forgot that walking wounded is a good thing for teen boys! Are you better today?

My brother is out of pain today.

At first I thought you were talking about a sandwich and I couldn't fathom WHY. :confused3

That is good news about your brother.

 at those hours! What kind of internship is she in?

That was my initial reaction too! :scared1:

Gretchen, My sincere condolences to you and your Family. No matter how you prepare for a loved ones passing, it is never easy. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers especially your Dear Mother and sweet Hailey. Hugs my friend.

Good Morning!

Dinner last night was hot dogs, corn on the cob and baked beans. Today is filet mignon, baked potatoes (or maybe in the foil) and corn on the cob.

Sheryl, continuing to keep Alexis in my prayers. I hope you all are holding up OK as well. You must be exhausted...I wish I was closer to help out in some way.

Nancy, Glad your brother is feeling better. Hopefully everyone can get on a better eating plan and he will not suffer so much.

Laura, What a nice day trip you had with the kids! I loved the pics on Facebook! I have never done a whale watching trip but talked about doing one when Tommy gets a little older.

Marisa, I loved the pics of Kady on the first day of school! She has grown! What a beauty you have!

Ann, We are staying part of the time at the Sheraton timeshare (we got a good deal if we go on their tour) and then on the 6th we do the beach club. Our plans on the 7th are DHS for the EMH am and then just dinner in EPCOT and then on the 8th we will do breakfast at Ohana, The Plaza for dinner and MK EMH. We should definitely try to catch up somewhere!

Kathy, Hope you had a nice visit with Kyle. Did he hear about the job? How is he adjusting? I bet he is having a ball!

Vickie, Hope you and the boy are feeling better today.

Stephanie:
Happy Birthday Scott!
I hope you enjoy your day with the family and your houseguest! Will she babysit? ;)

I need to catch up some more but my 6 month old is calling...Can you believe he is 6 months old today??? Wow, the time has flown!

Good morning!

I thought since it a holiday I would make a real breakfast. Bacon and eggs instead of a bacon or just egg sandwich.

Today I plan on being lazy and laying outside in the sun with a good book.

I will grill some brats, corn and potatoes. I think I will make a apple pie since I have so many apples.

Hugs and prayers for all

Now you have to tell us, has Katelyn been to WDW and is she crazy about it like us?

Thinking of Gretchen and her family as well as Alexis and her family.:grouphug:

I am so enjoying my boy being home! We went to "The Celebration" of BIL's life yesterday and then we had dinner with Kyle & Mariah. Today I'll be cooking stuff to send him back with and making red beans & rice! I slept so well last night because Kyle was home safe and sound.:cloud9:

Lauren - He didn't get the apartment complex job and maybe it's a good thing as we reminded him he will be coming home daily for a week while we're on vacation to take care of Sammie.
