The Vatican Has Updated the Seven Deadly Sins

I think the "new" deadly" sins aren't new at all but ones that we all need to be reminded of that are revelant to our times. I think the Pope is going "green" when talking about pollution being a sin. We have always been instructed to take care of God's Earth and have not done a very good job of it.
I think all the other topics he brought up are very revelant for today and are reminders for all. He hasn't added to anything or subtracted anything. JMHO.

Being born again is not a free pass for anything. You cannot do as you please because you are forgiven. I find it hard to believe Joe believes something like that and I do not think he does but it certainly sounded like it in an above post. One must confess and repent. I think Catholics and other Protestants agree on that. Jesus did enough, yes, but it is not, in any way, shape or form, a "free pass".
If anything all Christians are held more accountable for their actions.

Read the article and see my previous comment. I believe they are talking more about people who gained such riches by exploiting others, rather than just people who happen to have a lot of money.

But who knows? What was that line from the bible about a camel and the eye of a needle? ;)

I'm not a big Bible reader (although I am a grown up Catholic school girl) but...It's my understanding that it's not just exploiting people to gain wealth, but the pursuit of wealth that is evil:

“ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can't serve both God and Mammon
—Matthew 6:19-21,24

When we are born again, we are justified, i.e. made righteous before God. However, Paul addresses the subject of sin from the perspective of a believer.

Romans 6

1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

If all sin is forgiven, why would we need behavior guidelines? :confused3

I think, most protestants believe that if you have accepted Christ as your savior that you have indeed changed. If you just accepted Christ because you wanted a free ticket into heaven, then you really aren't saved (that's of course just my opinion). If you are saved then you want to follow and live for God whom you love, so while you won't be perfect, you'll try your best not to sin against him.

I think, that's why there is some many disagreements within the church about whether you are still saved if you go down a very "sinful" path (I think, you all know what I mean. I'm not talking about the sins we commit while we're still trying). I ,personally, think that once you're saved you are always saved.

What do you mean by I wasn't paying attention? I used the term audience in quotes for those who are not familiar with the players in a Catholic mass.
I am a lector for my Church, which means I pass out Communion. I am very familiar with how Communion goes. I have been to dozens of Churches in several states and I can maybe tick off on one hand how many times I have been offered the blood if I am not serving as a Eucharistic minister

Jenn, I really wonder if it's a New England practice...I agree with you..I never saw the wine passed out in general and that was at Catholic churches in 3 New England states.. However, in California, there was wine at every church I went too.

It's the same in NJ-every parish I've ever been to here gives communion under both species-except for the Latin Mass ones. I'm guessing it's a decision of the Bishop of each diocese or even the Pastor of each parish. :confused3

I thought that was the devil :confused3

The "new" Pope had absolutely fabulous red Prada loafers...there were pictures of them when he was first "appointed", "coronated" (what is the word I'm looking for?) that made specific mention of the shoes...
And, yes, the book is what you said...
and that would be the, you know, funny...see that there? The devil wears Prada...the Pope wears lovely Prada loafers? It might be generously called a joke :goodvibes

My church here in NY (Long Island) offers it at all Masses. But I know my sister's church in Northern Virginia does not.

I like it!! :lmao:

I'm pretty sure the decision is left up to the diocese about the wine. The Churches I attended in FL didn't serve wine either.
